Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) He also claims Melky will platoon with LaRoche at DH. I really doubt this organization will throw Avi out in right field to embarrass himself some more.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
One thing that really bothers me about Cespedes is his declining walk rate. He started out walking 8% of the time his rookie year. Then 6.5%. Then he got traded to the Red Sox and it's like he doesn't even know walking is a possibility anymore. If he doesn't hit .280 or higher, he's not going to get on at a league average rate.

Gordon or Cespedes?
I'm going to assume Cespedes will cost more and demand more years, but we don't lose a draft pick if we sign him. Gordon may be better at getting on base and defense, but Cespedes has a lot more pop and is 2 years younger. If I had to choose, I'd say Cespedes.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
I went to the game tonight. After Snell missed the dunk on the break-away in the third, I don't think he missed a single shot. I think this was probably the best NBA game he's played so far.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
So it looks like Kirk Cousins quietly had a really really good year. 4000+ yards passing, 70% completion percentage, 26/11 TD to INT ratio. I didn't see Cousins becoming a guy that can put up a 100 QB rating.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) Lmao, butler is better than a finals MVP and reigning defensive MVP. Ok You know, had he said that at the end of last season, I don't think he'd be getting the crap he's getting now. Leonard has improved massively over last season offensively. Butler was actually a better player last year in terms of offensive efficiency. Say whatever you want about their defense, but Butler had a 3 win share lead over Leonard last year.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Ehhh, I'd bet LaRoche has a better year offensively than Garcia next year. But we'd be better off platooning them. I actually think LaRoche has a chance to be somewhat decent next year. At the least, I think we can expect him to be better than last year. It's hard to do worse.

I would love for Leicester to win the PL, just because why the hell not? It might actually be great for the Premier League since it'll add to its reputation as the most competitive league in European football.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) He's just not viable as a long - term manager for any club now. Eventually the players get alienated with him and his management style, it happened at Real Madrid where the likes of Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas basically revolted against him, and the same thing happened here with the likes of Fabregas and Hazard. I think he'll end up at PSG next season, but I don't see him as a "top manager" anymore. Seems like Man U is interested. People are getting tired of Van Gaal mis-using his best players.

Outfield Defense in 2016
Definitely right field. Melky would suck even more in RF and we already know the story with Avi.

Brandon Phillips NOT traded to Nationals
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) I'm still amazed the Reds dealt Frazier for what they got... Worked out fantastically for the Sox but surprised the Dodgers didn't just get him & leave the Sox out. They have Guerrero and Turner at 3B and A-Gon at first. I don't think they're looking for another power bat. They need pitching.

Gasol is clearly gassed, yet we drew up 2 plays for him to start the 4th OT. Ugh.

I'd rather have Rose take one of those predictable step back jumpers than have Gasol shoot a 3.

Upton or Cespedes
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) Ken Rosenthal just said on MLBN that an O's beat writer said that the O's aren't spending 100 million+ on a player other than Chris Davis. So now, that is the Angels, Giants, Cardinals, and O's now out on the big OFs. That leaves the Sox, Nationals, Tigers, and Royals that have reported interest in the big 3 OFs. I doubt the Royals will want to spend $100+ million on any of the big name OFers. They've been rumored to offer Gordon something like $12 million a year, which is ludicrous. He's worth at least 4 years and $80 million or 5 years and $100 million. And that's very fair market value at that.

Upton or Cespedes
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Kudos to Lillian for not falling back on the whole LH fascination and advocating for Alex Gordon, haha. (It's pretty amazing how quiet things have actually been on that front, compared to Cespedes and Upton. All you hear is/was what the Cardinals and KC SUPPOSEDLY offered him or initially wanted to offer him, but even that's pretty much unconfirmed. Lots of rumors.) I think the Sox need a guy like Gordon more than Cespedes or Upton. We lack defense and the ability to get on base and Gordon does those two things very well. He may lack power, but between Abreu and Frazier, I think we will have enough pop. The only problem is that Gordon's older (32 when the season starts), a lot of his value comes from his defense, and he's had a issue with his wrist the past few years.
-
Upton or Cespedes
I'd rather give the money to Upton. More likely to walk and 2 years younger. Even in his poor years, he posted around a 110 wRC+. I think he's a much safer pick. He hit 15 homers in Petco last year and a move to the Cell should put him at around 30-35 homes overall.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) His career OBP is under .330 and last year it was .309. It is the one thing I don't like about Frazier (all of the other pluses outweigh this negative though). Even with that in mind, he posted a .342 wOBA and a +4 WAR. Unless something catastrophic happens, he should post something close to 3 WAR.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
Frazier's pretty bad second half has me concerned, but he did the same thing in 2014 and still had a good first half in 2015. I just want a guy who can hit 30 home runs and get on at a .330 clip at third. I think more likely than not, Frazier can deliver that for the next two years.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Mourinho sacked. One of the best managers in Europe over the past 10 years gets fired for one bad season. Coaching in soccer is tough. Chelsea has more issues than its manager right now I think His last interview pretty much sealed the deal. The team doesn't want to play for him anymore. It's so weird that they can go from first to near relegation in such a short amount of time.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) Officiating was just horrendous. Somehow we still won. There were a bunch of blatant holds the Packers got away with that the Bears did not, specifically on one where Young got held on a long scramble by Rodgers.
