Which Sox are going to be traded this summer?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 19, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) I think you severely overrate Gordon Beckham. Last year, Beckham compared favorably to Eric Sogard and DJ LeMahieu. I'd say Eric Sogard's even better, cause he's got nerd powers.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Im playing with my 12"-12 1/2" Nokona baseball glove, im thinking I need an Slowpitch OF glove, but haven't noticed a huge problem yet. Although I wasn't able to snag that shoestring catch, and then in the first game almost had a line drive snow cone out of my glove. Yeah, go get a 13 or 14 inch glove. It helps in the OF.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Since you seem to be the stat man around here, let me ask you if you would call this an error. A guy hit a pop that was behind second base, I came sprinting in from LCF and had to attempt a shoe string catch, the ball hit the palm of my glove and I didn't catch it. Would you score this as an error? An infielder wouldn't have been able to make the play, and I had to sprint to it just to have an attempt to catch it. My theory is if you get your glove on it and you don't make the catch, it's probably an error.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:40 AM) Heres what bothers me most about it. Our rules are 7 innings or 55 minutes, ok well we are losing 20-2 after 3 innings and about 25 minutes why call the game? I would rather get to play it out then go home 30 minutes early because we suck. I mean we did pay to play. Usually you can only run rule with about 15 or 10 minutes left and the score wouldn't even matter. Our leagues play at least 4 and a half innings.

5/18 White Sox @ Astros 1:10 CT CSN
Danks is garbage today. This is an Astros team without a single hitter whose OPS is over .800 and he's getting absolutely blasted.

Beckham was trying to hit a grand slam when he should have been looking for a hit.

White Sox @ Astros - 5/17 - 3:10 - WGN - Game 2 of 3
I was at the game. In fact, I think I got in a few frames on TV (I sat in the second row out in RF). Before the game, I was able to get a ball from Scott Caroll during BP, which was pretty cool. Anyway, I knew Noesi was in trouble after he gave up a hit to Altuve on the first pitch. When Noesi doesn't have much of anything, he's absolutely awful. Thankfully, he started mixing in some off-speed stuff to keep the Astros in check for the next 5 innings.

White Sox at Astros - 5/16 - 7:10 - CSN - Game 1 of 3
McHugh's been pretty legit thus far. At least we won't have to go up against Keuchel this series.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 16, 2014 -> 08:07 AM) New ball So we are back down to 375. It seriously changes every year We lost again last night, 18-15. I went 3/4 with 2 doubles and a single. As well as a terribly embarrassing base running error that cost us a run Eventually, I'm thinking you guys are gonna switch to the .52 cor balls. They're a b**** to field since they're so bouncy and it's hard to drive 'em.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) This is our old old ball Our game tonite is at 9:40, I will take a pic then. All of my bag balls have the writing rubbed off Wow, I wish I can play in your league. All of my doubles and triples would turn into home runs.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) I'm a stepper and it helped me with timing. I started doing that recently to start hitting opposite field more and to stop reaching for shallower pitches.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) My initial thought is that I am putting too much uppercut on my swing. I almost never hit ground balls, they are all deep into the air. I am missing out on just a little bit of distance and I believe it is due to the uppercut. That is something from baseball that is tough to initially break out of. I will try waiting a little bit longer on Sunday and see how that goes, I am hitting about 99% of my balls to dead left/slight left center so I might be swinging too early. Do some BP or go to the batting cages. It's much easier to practice something like that there than in a game. You can try creating some kind of timing mechanism in your swing to make sure you end up waiting a bit longer. Whether it's a longer leg kick, toe tap, etc.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Here what it says about the ball " TRUMP STOTE AK-RP-ASA A-Y cor.52 12 inch Balls for men " Also, anyone know where I can get a custom white glove? Yeah, that's the new ball. They used to play with .44 cor balls with 375 pound compression. Those come off the bat way harder (it's a harder ball too) and it was way easier to hit HRs with it. The change of balls made hitting HRs a lot harder. I hear stories of guys who used to hit HRs on a regular basis with the old ball, but couldn't hit one out with the new ball to save their lives.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) They can be, but once your homers are gone, you gotta make sure you keep it in the park Are you sure it's 475? The new ASA balls are .52 cor and 300 pounds max compression.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Our fields are 300, 3 homer limit. When I started it was 5 homer limit, which was a lot of fun. We used some crazy balls that had like 525 PSI cores. Then the next season the limit was changed and te balls changed to 385, now we are at a 475(I think. Didnt look at a ball this season yet) 475 pound compression? Those are HR derby balls...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Limit is 1? Wow, either your field is huge or you guys have flight restricted balls Isn't it against ASA rules to use anything but regulation balls (52 cor 300 pound max compression)?

QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) The fields seem pretty big to me, but I also dont know the exact dimensions. What size field do you play on. Smallest is 285, largest is 315. Most are 300.

QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) I can already do that though, I just want to hit one home run and then I will go back to just hitting line drives. Im just thinking maybe im not swinging correctly since im just used to baseball and not slowpitch softball. Then honestly, you should continue doing it. I honestly don't know anyone who can get a hit every single time (maybe 75-80% of the time, but never all the time). The fact that you can apparently get on base on-demand is way better than hitting the occasional home run. Like Kyle said, keep hitting line drives. The home runs will come. I've hit HRs that were more or less line drives and those feel way better than a towering fly ball that just happens to go out. Also, doesn't your league have a HR limit?

QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) I am on a work team that we just started in March. This is my first time playing competitive softball, but I have played baseball for a good portion of my life so its not much different. We ended the first season 2-8, including a wonderful 34-5 loss in one of those games. I am trying to hit home runs, but I can seem to get the right swing down. Ive hit the fence a few times, and I know im plenty strong enough to get the ball out. Any of you seasoned softball players have any advice for this? I could probably bat 1.000 but I end up popping out to deepish left and left center regularly because I am trying to hit the ball out of the park. Our second season starts Sunday, hopefully we will be a little better than last season. Few questions. What kind of softball is this? 12 inch? What association? If it's 12 inch and it's ASA, what bat are you using? If you're hitting balls to the fence with an aluminum bat, then that is mighty impressive. Getting a composite will turn you into a real good home run hitter. If you're using a good composite bat and you're only hitting to the wall...then stop trying to hit home runs. Yes, they're nice, but your job in softball is to get on base. A team full of guys who get on base at a .700 clip will be way better than a team with 3-4 sluggers who can hit the ball out 25% of the time.

White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (flavum @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) He's earned his spot. No question. His peripherals are terrible because he gives up a lot of HRs. But I've always liked him and it's good to see him succeed so far. However, from an objective point of view, he's gotta stop giving up the long ball. Sooner or later, those solos he's given up will be 3 run homers and he won't be so lucky.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) That's true, but we did have a guy who absolutely sucked who we had to pull from games a few times last year. Plus a lot of times you have two pitchers start games. It sounds way sweeter saying 2 complete games though. I feel like Wilbur Wood. Well, you'll never feel like Kerry Wood cause you'll never K 20 batters in one game.
