  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Probably allowed them to cut the bezel as thin as they did. I'm just a big fan of using the physical volume buttons for my camera shutter...I think having to tap a virtual icon on the screen when trying to take a picture is terrible, it causes the phone to move, etc. One of the really cool features it seems to have is Guest Mode, not sure if this is an LG thing or not, even though I wouldn't hand my phone to a kid at any point, but I could see that being quite useful for some. And I hate plastic phones in this price point, I really do. I still like the HTC One the best when it comes to Android. There's restrictive user profiles in Android 4.3 now, but that's tablets only ATM. AnandTech's hands on says the back buttons feel fairly natural after a few minutes. I don't think LG would have done what they did had it been extremely uncomfortable. That's a product-killing fault if it is. My only concern is...does this phone lay flat when you put it on its back? The power button bulges out a bit. I also wouldn't say all plastic phones are bad. The glossy polycarbonate on this phone and Samsung phones are fairly annoying. They're prone to smudges and feel weird after holding the phone for a while. But the plastic used on devices like the Moto X are fine with me.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) They're starting to make bad design choices in order to accommodate these super thin bezels, such as moving power and volume buttons the the back. Having power/volume rockers on the edge of the phone makes it easy to reach into your pocket and find them, for example, when you're at the gym. Reviewers are saying the move of the buttons to the back actually works well because its a phablet sized device, but I don't know...seems awkward and something you'll have to feel around for. Just doesn't seem like a necessary design change, especially considering I use my volume up button as a camera shutter, which is extremely useful. -- Not a big fan of the ugly plastic back. ++ Good choice on LG for using an IPS display. ++ Screen looks very good. I think moving the buttons to the back has more to do with them trying to make the device thinner.
  3. LG just announced the G2. 5.2 inch screen, but about the size of the Galaxy S4 and almost no bezels around the phone (remember that convo about bezels not existing Y2HH? It's about that time). The power and volume buttons are on the back of the phone, which is interesting from a design perspective, but also weird from a user perspective. I guess we'll see how the it functions in the real-world. It's also the first phone with a Snapdragon 800, clocked at 2.26 GHz. 3000 mAH battery, so it should last a good 20 hours, even with the 1080P screen and the beast processor. This is a incredible piece of hardware and there is a chance the next Nexus phone will be based off of it.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) That's right where I put my finger! lol Oh cause your left handed. Yeah, that makes sense. But still unless your hands are big, it's really hard to accidentally press it. My volume rockers are on the left side of the phone and I never accidentally press them.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) I don't get it either, I was just saying I don't like the idea of it being on the side. Very easy to accidentally press. On the upper right side of the phone? It's pretty much impossible to accidentally press it. I've never had an issue with it and the last 4 phones I've owned had it on the side.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Eh not really, sometimes I guess. But how hard is it to learn the new location of a random button? I just don't get the big complaint. It's not the location, it's the convenience of the location given the size of the phone.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) I am totally dumbfounded as to what is wrong with the placement of the power button For a long phone like the HTC One, it should really be on the side of the phone. It's easier for everyone to press it.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Gotta agree with you on this point...how often do people actually use their damned power buttons. I reboot my phone maybe once a month, and it's the only thing I use the power button for. I think I can find the "other side" it's placed on after a week of use. That's like complaining that not ever PC has the power button in the same spot. Who cares...so long as it has one, take the five f***ing seconds and learn where it is. You don't lock/unlock your phone?
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) I agree, and I hope they don't...being that IMO, their flagship HTC One is the best Android based device ever released. Then again, I'm an Apple user, so my opinion on that doesn't mean all that much. But it is the first and only Android phone that made me say, "Hmmm..." after it was released. They feel amazingly well made, and look good/high quality. I've never been a fan of the cheapy feel of Samsung phones. The only issues with the One that I see are the ergonomics. Power button on the top left? Only two navigation buttons (granted, this can be fixed with a custom kernel)? That stupid menu button that pops up on legacy apps bugs me to no end.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) I had a pretty odd sequence of events happen with my phone yesterday. So T-Mobile released an OTA update for the HTC One and I downloaded it yesterday. Normally you download it, install, and wait for it to finish, it reboots, shows a quick upgrade screen and that's it. Mine got stuck on the hboot screen you get when you're putting a new ROM on it or something though which sucked. I called customer service and they sent me another phone but mentioned I'd have to pay a $175 insurance fee if there was physical damage. I figured f*** it, better than having a non-functional phone, but I wouldn't be able to get the data off the phone. To make this already-long story not even longer, the aluminum case on the One is strong but not indestructible, and it was pressing in my volume down button (which hadn't been a problem until now) so I took a small screwdriver and pried the button off, and the phone finally was able to get past that screen, and a pair of pliers fixed that dent. Because I didn't really break the volume button I was able to put it back in, so now I got this phone coming and I don't want to pay the $175 because there's nothing wrong with my phone except it looks like a small animal tried to chew near my volume button. Whoops. This is actually pretty funny. Your phone would have rebooted to the bootloader every time afterwards had you not fixed it.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) It's not be misrepresented. They tried to enter the high end of the market and they failed. They're about to post their first operating loss and it's because of the low margins of the HTC One. While they say the One has "improved their brand awareness", it's simply not selling. The writings on the wall with HTC on the high end, I expect them to fade away and be content making money with the low end versus losing money on the high. I think this is rather clear that their focus is shifting to where they think they can actually make money: "The Taiwanese smartphone maker revealed it plans to launch a range of "innovative and competitive mid-tier products in the coming months." HTC executives acknowledged that it has not been competitive in the mid-range smartphone market, where the industry is currently seeing the most growth." The HTC One Mini? The Butterfly and Butterfly S are doing great in Asia. I honestly doubt HTC will stop making top-tier phones. That's would be extremely stupid on their part.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:05 PM) The market is saturated, at this point new devices are simply more choice. There is a sea of phones out there, unfortunately only Apple and Samsung seem to be reaping any success. It's looking like HTC is going to throw in the towel on the top end now, so another one bites the dust. I think Google is smart enough to know that the upper end is owned by the big two now, and sadly most are afraid to try. Who said that?
  13. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) boats? I gotta get more boats n hoes.
  14. Well, the Moto X is a complete disappointment. $600 off contract for 2012 hardware. Customization is nice (and the phone looks great too), but I'm not going to pay $600 when I can buy a Nexus 4 for half the price. Or hell, I can get an HTC One with that.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Somebody needs s*** canned for this crap! He's 2013's Jeremy Guthrie.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Hardware wise, it sets the bar not only in terms of quality, but also price wise. Now it needs some applications that don't totally suck balls on Android tablets. Most of the phone apps are fine on 7 inch tablets. I don't really mind the extra space. It's not pretty, but it's still functional. I will say this though. 4.3 broke some apps. MX Player is broken and that's what a lot of people use to watch videos. It'll get fixed soon, but it's irritating.
  17. This new Nexus 7 is f***ing awesome. The screen looks amazing and it fits very comfortably in one hand. I really disliked how big the top and bottom bezel are when I first saw the pictures, but in person, it's not as bad.
  18. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:06 PM) Rios + cash to PIT for Hanson & Kingham Ramirez to STL for Martinez & Adams until tomorrow. I wish. Not happening.
  19. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) Red Sox report Wendelken, Montas, Rondon to CWS Montas is the 36th best prospect in their system coming into this year. The other two guys weren't listed on SoxProspects.com.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) End is near for Mitchell or Walker. We need to stop drafting outfielders who only have athleticism and not so much baseball talent (I say this right after we get Garcia...figures). Mitchell hasn't worked out and neither has Walker. Hawkins is a K machine.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) Garcia is another physical specimen who doesn't know how to f***ing hit. Why can't we, just once, get someone that understands the strike zone? For reals.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) The GIF boom is the best thing to happen to sports dissemination since the invention of the television. Chad Qualls never fails at embarrassing himself.
  23. Rich Hill is still in the majors?
  24. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Bowden said they are talking CMart or Wacha +Kozma for Aybar Aybar's worse than Alexei...
  25. Great time to get hurt Alex...great time. This season sucks.
