QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) It's a Cadillac man. That's part of the look. You really want to see how bad the back end of a car can look check out the new Corvette Stingray. Stunningly pretty car that is actually ruined by a vulgar tasteless back end. Think about the standard of vulgarity for a Corvette and how bad something would have to be to be considered "too vulgar". I'm not going to comment on Tesla anymore. There's all sorts of incredible things happening around the auto industry and the fascination people have with a niche manufacturer (not even the coolest niche manufacturer either, look up Morgan) takes attention away from some much more interesting changes. So I take it that you don't think electric cars are the future? Gas isn't a sustainable resource. We're going to have to transfer to another source of fuel sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

GT 8/23: The Return of Alex & Anthony
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) yes, I am saying it is impossible for AJ Pierzynski to transform this team from -22 games to "in contention" which probably would be a swing of at least 30 games. AJP is more valuable than Mike Trout if what Greg says is true.

GT 8/23: The Return of Alex & Anthony
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Intangibles count. Also, one less black hole in the lineup. I can argue we'd be in the race if he was still here. Not sure I want to argue that yet, but I could argue that. And I could argue that Alex Rios is the best right fielder in the game, but I won't.

GT 8/23: The Return of Alex & Anthony
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) I want to see 100% standing ovation for these guys, yes, even Rios. But Rios is an overpaid bum!

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) Still a bulls*** call. I don't even remember that. Who was running? Was that Hudson?

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 07:26 AM) Losing the camera app and beats audio make me hesitant to put GE on my One. At some point, when I decide rooting and such is worth it, I'd probably go with MoDaCo switch. That's the way to go.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Picking up my Verizon HTC One tonight. Pretty stoked. It's already been rooted on day one which I plan to take advantage of. Get that Google Play Edition firmware on it.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 06:44 PM) Anyone know if there is a way to print from a Galaxy Note 10.1? I love the device in general but I think this may be a weakness. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...print&hl=en You need to connect your ePrinter via Google Cloud Print though.

If only we could have swept KC more last year...

How will ozzie be remembered?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) As far as the "quitting" issue, I don't really care that he left the team with 2-3 games to go or whatever it was. Who cares? The season was over by then anyway. Why do you want the Sox to win this year? Season's over anyhow. Why not just suck and get a better draft pick? See how that logic works?

How will ozzie be remembered?
I wonder how Marlins fans remember Ozzie.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) One day after Cadillac shows off the best looking concept from an American manufacturer in god-knows-how-long Tesla scores well on the idiot proofing tests. Guess which story the public took to? It breaks my heart. Yeah, you know, safety tests don't matter. At all. That new Cadillac concept looks meh compared to a Tesla.

Teams abandoning shift against Dunn
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) That's because he was at 2011 levels in May. His last couple of months he has been better than he has ever been as a White Sox. Dunn also had a .900+ OPS through May last year. In fact, his highest wOBA on a monthly basis was in May of last year (.412).

GT: 8/20. Spoiler alert in KC
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) I don't like to write off my summers. Time is precious in this world. Every day the White Sox play has the potential to be a good day for me if they win. Granted it's not life and death, but it's a nice boost to the day. In answer to your question, I really don't care if we get the 4th pick as opposed to 3. If that makes me a bad fan, I'll have to deal with that someday when the 3rd pick is oodles better than No. 4. There's a chance we won't even get the 4th pick. What if we get the 6th pick? 7th pick? There is a difference between the third and seventh pick. And in a crapshoot like the MLB draft, one slot can make a difference. Hell, the Bulls were two picks away from drafting Dwyane Wade as opposed to Kirk Hinrich in the 03 draft. You just never know.

GT: 8/20. Spoiler alert in KC
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) You guys who want the White Sox to lose are like the guys who play the "don't pass" line in craps. You are no fun. Greg, would you rather have the 3rd pick in next year's draft or win some meaningless games?

White Sox winner over KC threat
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:23 PM) That's why I'm wondering if he's our new bulldog/grinder. I liked his facial expressions in the dugout. He seems to have TWTW for a lousy team. Oh lawd.

GT: 8/20. Spoiler alert in KC
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 10:32 PM) You think the Sox have a chance at the playoffs? I don't think we're going to out-suck the Astros and Marlins. But yes, stop winning so much. I want that third pick.

Teams abandoning shift against Dunn
QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) Fielder is only 30 though. I can't imagine his decline is happening already. This is his worst season since his rookie year. His dad fell off a cliff at 32.

Avisail Garcia is the truth.
QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 07:25 PM) Garica needs to walk more. Plus its too small of a sample size. It's good to see his power developing a bit (he hit nothing but singles last year for Detroit). The patience will need to improve, but it won't matter as much if he can be a .300 hitter.

GT: 8/20. Spoiler alert in KC
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) I'll give him time. He hit righties really, really well this year in AAA Can he learn to take a walk while he's at it? He makes his fair share of contact, but he's walked once since he's been up in 109 PA. That's insane.

Sale 6th in baseball in WAR
QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) Not to sound like a total n00b here, but what is the diff between fWAR and bWAR and when should they be applied, and to whom? Sorry if its been answered already, I'm too lazy to read through this mess. The main difference is how they evaluate defense and pitching. For fWAR (FanGraphs WAR), FIP is used to calculate pitcher WAR (for relievers, leverage index is also taken into account to give closers more value) and UZR is used to evaluate player defense. FanGraphs took the all or nothing approach. Since ERA is defense dependent, they won't use it. Instead, they only take into account what the pitcher can control (components of FIP, which are HR, BB, HBP, and IP). bWAR (Baseball-Reference WAR) uses ERA and a team's fielding to determine pitcher WAR and Total Zone to evaluate player defense. This may sound good in theory, but the validity of applying Total Zone to pitchers over a sample size of 200 innings seems iffy, IMO. I'm actually not sure what differences there are offensively (I've never really delved into that part for bWAR). Usually, bWAR gives you some very odd WAR leaderboards at the end of the year (Darwin Barney was worth 36 runs above average on defense last year...WHAT?). As does fWAR, but to most statheads (at least on this site), fWAR is much more popular and much more agreed upon.

Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) More range = more errors More range = more run saving plays But the new members all agreed with Greg "The Pied Piper" 775. Well in the eyes of pretty much all fans... Errors during crucial situations = this guy sucks in the field Great plays in not as crucial situations = this guy has range, but still sucks in the field.
