White Sox @ Rangers 2:05 PM - CSN
QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) It's just been growing inside of me, and too many mimosas are bringing it out. I guess I just don't care to look into the future. I choose to enjoy Tyler and Dunn hitting .300+ right now even though I know(even without advanced stats) it's not gonna last.....I understand fangraphs, but it seems to take a bit of fun out of the game. I think there's a difference about enjoying a player you know who's going to be good vs. enjoying a player who you know is going to regress in the near future. I don't like getting my hopes up.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Has he always been such a tool, or only since he learned how to hit? He's become a more egotistic ass since he's learned how to hit. But he's always been an ass.

How the hell did Johnson get through the first 2?

QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) It's annoying in the context of the way it's being presented. It's as if we shouldn't care that our guy just got on base because advanced stats says it's not gonna last forever. I want Flowers to succeed as a player. But when I look at it objectively, I still don't think very highly of him, even when he's almost hitting .400 this year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) The longer it goes on, the better the chance he will finish pretty high above normal. Even if it's around .350, he might be a .250 hitter, which I'd be fine with. But you have to realize that luck is not a skill. The chances of Flowers replicating his high BABIP in following years is pretty unlikely.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) No but is shows the flaw in sabermetrics attitude towards strikeouts. You don't have to hit the ball on the screws every time to reach base and ultimately score runs. Many of Flowers hits were hit poorly. More poorly than many outs he has made in his career, but you give yourself a chance putting it in play. Which Flowers doesn't do a lot of since he strikes out 35% of the time. It sucks to be a debbie downer about Flowers, but the regression is going to come and when it does, it's going to suck.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) This, I'm finding this BABIP stat highly annoying. It's not annoying, it's just the law of averages. Over the course of 2000 some plate appearances, no hitters are going to have half of their balls in play turn into hits. Many would be extremely lucky to have 35% of those fall. It's just not plausible to have half of them turn into hits. Flowers isn't going to have a .567 BABIP for the rest of the year. What he's doing now just isn't sustainable. There's nothing annoying about it, it's just reality.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 12:43 AM) Meh, it says it will only knock off a couple points temporarily. That's not a problem. It stays on for two years. And depending on how many hard inquiries you have in a certain period of time, it can decrease by more than just a few points. Case and point: my credit score dropped around 30 points after I got a loan for my car and applied for two credit cards in about a one month period.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Well, I guess I've waited as long as I can for a PS4 The Show bundle to be announced. Apparently Meijer is having a deal where if you sign up for a credit card, you get 32% off your purchase, big ticket items included. Seems fishy, but I am going over there to check it out anyway. May come home with a PS4 tonight after work. You better buy a lot of stuff. Usually, whatever you get discounted isn't worth the hard credit pull.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) What scout(s) thought it would be a good idea to acquire Paulino? Yes I want heads to roll over that acquisition. A common fan could tell you that was a bad idea. It's really easy to second guess. It was a low-risk, high reward type move. He's being paid $1.75 million this year and he's got a team option next year with a $250k buyout. That's chump change for a guy who could possibly eat 160-170 innings for you (which Paulino still can do).

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 12:50 AM) There were rumors a while ago that Nikola may take less than the MLE to come over. If so, this scenario IS possible: Rose/Kirk/Jimmer Butler/Brewer Melo/Dunleavy Nikola/Taj Noah/Smith Brewer, Kirk and Jimmer would all have to be vet minimums, which I don't see why they wouldn't. You keep a second rounder for possible depth. Other ring chasers. Bench ain't great, but when you have that starting line + Taj, things can happen. I don't think the salaries can possibly work out unless the Knicks only take Boozer in the S&T. It's pretty much a guarantee you'll have to deal Taj if you want Melo.

I don't think there's a chance in hell Melo goes back to New York if he actually wants to win. That roster is a total mess. Amar'e and Bargnani are going to get their player options and they're going to be way over the tax and have no draft picks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) If you get that core together, you can add minimum wage guys to it. People will come here to win. That also doesn't mean you can't add to it in the future, you just can't this year. I get that. The Bulls would be an instant championship contender. But they certainly would have issues in the first year.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) After double-checking the FAQ, I was mistaken. The tax-payer/mini MLE can no longer be used if a team acquires a player in a sign and trade in the same season. This changed after 2012/13. So if the Bulls get Melo, there's pretty much no situation in which they can use any sort of exception. Well that's just great. If they do get Melo the lineup would be: Rose, Butler, Dunleavy, Melo, Noah with Tony Snell and Greg Smith on the bench. I'm not sure who they can pickup for the minimum, but that's a very thin team.

Just saw that the Bulls got Greg Smith a couple days ago. Nice pickup. He'd be a good guy to have as a 4th big man.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) They can only use the full MLE if they can stay below the tax line, and that includes the value of that contract. If they give someone the full MLE, they can't go over the tax line for any reason. Otherwise they only get the mini-MLE which is around $3 million. If they opt to try to use cap space to sign Melo out-right, they can't use the MLE. You can't use both cap space and the MLE. Your exceptions are actually used as cap holds until you give them up. So just to make sure I understand: if they get Melo in a S&T, they can still use the mini-MLE?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) I also download the newest Android system 4.4 via Kies, like the other poster suggested, still the same problem. If I go to the settings menu and try to turn on Bluetooth. I press ON, it says "Turning on Bluetooth..." for about 20 seconds with the ON button dimmed, then it switches back to OFF. Same thing with Wi-Fi, but there it doesn't even say it's looking for networks, just switches off after 10-15 seconds. It might be a hardware issue.

Question: if the Bulls do get Melo in a S&T, do they still get to use their MLE or are they just stuck trying to find guys for the minimum salary?
