QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:41 AM) The more you know. I also learned that you can take your DVD drive out and replace it with an SSD to run dual HD's. That's pretty sweet. Who actually uses a DVD drive anymore? I haven't for years. I think that only applies to Lenovo laptops. A lot of slim laptops don't even have optical drives anymore. It adds too much bulk.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:03 AM) Also, I just read that MBP's with retina display and Air's don't have expandable RAM? Obviously they're not underpowered. Nothing really needs 16 GB's of RAM, but wtf? You should be able to do whatever the hell you want with your $1,300 computer, right? Sorry for the rant. I'm troubleshooting issues with my PC and came across that. That's the case with a lot of slim laptops these days.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) What were they going to do this deadline? There was virtually no one of interest traded or available, and the Bulls really didn't have anything of value they could trade anyway that would have been worth it. The offseason gets more interesting. You can amnesty Boozer to free up room under the cap and Hamilton becomes more attractive as an expiring contract. From there you and wheel and deal a little bit. The biggest need will still be a 2, but building around a core of Rose/#2/Deng/Gibson/Noah has potential to be an excellent starting group that can continue to play shutdown defense. I don't know, trade for J.J. Redick? It's not like Milwaukee gave up anything worthwhile.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) There has been a spot on my laptop screen for a year. There is a spot above the word spot right now on the computer I'm on. I'm not about clean it and that's not because I'm an untidy or lazy person. It's just a pain in the ass to clean it and it's not interfering with anything important. It also depends on what kind of screen you have. I hate cleaning my laptop's matte LCD. It's good in the sense I don't get glare, but it's so much easier to clean glossy LCDs. I usually have to use water to clean the crap off my laptop's screen, which is a hassle. But if it had a glossy screen, I probably wouldn't need to do that.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) http://www.rantsports.com/nba/2013/02/21/r...-lack-of-moves/ Is anyone else starting to get annoyed with Derrick Rose? Rose's brothers have always been annoying. I do agree with them though, the FO should have done something. They're so unimaginative.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) To me that has more to do with not wanting to clean a monitor or screen of that size/shape...wiping down a phone or tablet is pretty simple, not only because of their relatively small screen size, but the shape of the device makes it easy...but a computer monitor or a laptop screen? No thanks. I don't like when people even come close to touching my monitors, including myself. If you can clean an iPad, you can clean a 13 inch monitor.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) From what I understand, Apple doesn't believe touch screens on desktops or laptops are ergonomically-sound features....and I think they are right...who wants to hold their arm at that angle for any period of time when you could just use the keyboard/mouse/trackpad? I think touchscreens are brilliant for a device that is handheld or meant to be laid parallel to the floor/desk, but not a screen that is perpendicular to the surface...gravity doesn't agree with that very well. Yeah, I tend to agree that having a touchscreen on a laptop that can't transform into a tablet isn't all that practical. I mean, it is obviously better to have the touchscreen as opposed to not having one, but if a laptop doesn't have a touchscreen, it's not a deal-breaker. This is why I think the Windows 8 convertible laptops have potential. You can use it as a laptop and a tablet when you want it. The biggest problem I have with the iPad or any other tablet is that it can't match a PC in terms of multitasking. Having a tablet and laptop in one solves that issue. And also I think Apple wants to sell iPads and MacBooks. If they integrate those together, they lose sales.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) that's the key. It's a browser only. Even the low end Macbook Airs can do a lot more and boot pretty fast too (one of the perks of Chrome) Would you want it if it ran a Linux distro like Ubuntu or Fedora?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) 1300$ for a web browser that requires 24/7 access to the net? I don't care how high quality it is, you may as well buy a full on laptop. I doubt the bootloader will be locked down, you can probably run whatever you please on this as long as it uses industry-standard components and an x86 architecture. If it's ARM-based, it becomes a little more complicated. The device itself looks great, but $1300 is a bit steep considering Google usually sells all of their hardware these days at either zero profit or very little profit. However, considering they are putting in a 2560x1700 (pretty much the MacBook retina display) touch display, $1300 actually doesn't seem like it's THAT much money. The MacBook Pro 15' with retina display still costs $2000 and that doesn't have a touch screen. But then again, it also doesn't run Chrome OS...lol. Edit: this thing has an Intel i5 with 4 GB of RAM. So as long as Google doesn't lock the bootloader, you can probably put Windows or Linux on this thing, provided they open source the drivers so it can be ported to other operating systems.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 07:20 AM) Concept videos are always awesome, though...but actual real world use always ends up being a different experience. Anyone remember Microsofts tablet concept for the Courier? I think the first Google Glass video they did was sort of out there and unreasonable. But I don't think this was actually a concept video, I think this video consisted of real video captures from Glass itself (including the projected screen on the top right corner). Something like this would make navigation and texting so much easier.

Computer virus help
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) Computer guys, Pretty sure I have a trojan on my computer. I have Windows Security Essentials, AVG, and another malware protector. They seemed to have caught the trojan and the computer is operable, not really affecting too much performance, etc. The issue is that every 10 minutes or so Windows Security Essentials gives me a little pop up window that says "detected threats are being cleaned, no action necessary." Until today I had never seen this pop up. If I open it up, I see that it keeps listing out the same trojan every time that has come up, so it has it every few minutes and says it's been removed. Besides it being annoying to have that pop up window, I feel like it means something is obviously still wrong. I'm not a computer guy by any means so I want to figure out how to clean everything out and get rid of whatever's there. A friend had me restart in safe mode and run full scans of Windows Security Essentials and my malware program, as he said that might get rid of it because it's tough to do it when the computer is running like normal. However it seems to still be "there" now that I'm back in normal mode. What are my next steps? The guy said Norton Antivirus is the best out there, if I have to buy it I'll do that, if that's what can fix it. If there's something else I can do or download to try to help, I'm all ears. If I can't do anything but bring it to Geek Squad (or somewhere else?) or something, then I'll do it. Just not sure how to go about it now. Thanks for any help - Your anti-virus programs should be able to tell you where the trojan exactly is (program path). Write that down, boot into safemode, go to the file's location, and delete the file. If it's a fairly simple virus, that should solve all your problems.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Had to be. I was so bored in the airport (I spend half my week in airports) and I forgot my headphones. So I ponied up the 300 bucks or whatever for the On-ear beats. They are pretty nice on airplanes though. They look really nice, but if you judge on sound quality alone, you can do way better at the price.

Whoever designed the new HTC phone should be fired after it sells like crap. A logo between two capactive buttons? No multi-tasking button? A earpiece almost the width of the phone? I used to like HTC's designs, but they went way out there with this One and it looks awful.

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) I think I remember Gordon putting on some muscle before the '10 season. Or maybe '11. Which ever season it was where he had a hot week to start off the season then went into the crapper. This happens pretty much every year. Gordon starts out hot, starts sucking by mid April.
