Sox seeking LH bat
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Yuck on Alexei for Kubel. Way to make a hole on the infield when we technically have no holes in the outfield. Plus, I don't think AZ wants Ramirez anymore. They didn't even want Asdrubal Cabrera. They got their man in Gregorius.

Sox seeking LH bat
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) I think he would be replacing Rios. Your options are limited when it comes to LH bats. The absolute best scenario I see in any acquisition with Kubel involved is if we send Floyd to Arizona and get Kubel back. Then we platoon Kubel with Viciedo. Viciedo mashes lefties, Kubel mashes righties. That could be an awesome platoon. I can handle Kubel in two out of every three games in left field. But if Kubel replaces Rios, I'm going to puke.

Sox seeking LH bat
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) 1. Who cares? 2. Thats not true I think a lot of people on this board absolutely despise Jason Kubel. But that's beside the point. One, you're talking about acquiring another guy who is basically a DH. We already have 1.5 of those in Dunn and Konerko. Two, if you plan on playing him in the outfield, he better be 2008 Carlos Quentin, because he is straight up bad in the OF. Three, he'll never be 2008 Carlos Quentin because he's got a career OPS under .800. His last season was also incredibly inconsistent and he didn't hit all that well on the road. Not to mention he's more or less a platoon player with how well he hits righties vs. lefties. Jason Kubel doesn't make this team better if he's replacing Alex Rios (he makes it a lot worse in fact) and he doesn't even make it better by replacing Dayan Viciedo. Unless he can play 3B and play 3B well (or catcher), he's not a good acquisition for this team.

Marco Bellinelli...I hope this stretch you're on is not a complete fluke. Because this kind of play is exactly what the Bulls need when Derrick Rose gets back to strength.

Liriano signs with Pirates
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) Wow are starting pitchers overpaid. In terms of salary in the marketplace, Aj=Liriano?!??! He also got more money than Carlos Villanueva, who I think could be a much better pitcher.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) Yeah I thought about Kubel immediately after Ross signed. Sounds like a plan. No. I f***ing hate that guy. Plus he's not that good.

AJ will not return to Sox
QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) When Danks is 100% healthy, he's an above average (damn good!) SP. Any staff in baseball would love to have him. When VMart is 100% healthy, he is THE best DH in baseball. A dangerous hitter, that would be welcome on any team in baseball. IMO, every day ballplayers are more valuable than SPs. The best SP can only help you win once every 5 games, whereas a position player, even a DH, can potentially help you win every game. Does this make sense? He is? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=17,d I see that he was 4th in wOBA and OPS in 2011 among DHs. That was one of his better seasons too. I can name two DHs that are for sure 100% better than V-Mart off the top of my head alone: David Ortiz and Edwin Encarnacion. Hell, I might even include Billy Butler.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) I think they wanted their version of Oliver Perez back. Strikeouts are sexy. Oliver Perez was actually good last year.

AJ will not return to Sox
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) John Danks. I agree with this. V-Mart, before his injury, was more or less a league average DH. John Danks, before injury, was an above average pitcher.

AJ Pierzynski Appreciation thread
One of the best free agent signings in White Sox history. He also defined the team's on-field image (even if it was a poor image) for nearly a decade. Thanks A.J.!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) Good god is that a lot of money. I didn't think he'd get $5 mill, let alone $7 per for 2 years I would have paid him $2.5 million a year...

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) These stories are often poorly written and they convey the wrong message via their inaccurate headlines. All this really means a review is in progress to invalidate, which can take years, be appealed, etc. Headline: XYZ patent invalidated! Reality: XYZ patent is still valid, but a lengthly review of said patent has been ordered. The patent in question in this article still stands as valid, however, until officially overturned. The way they write these articles, it sounds as if the patent is already invalid when it isn't. My opinion on patents is we need a complete overhaul worldwide on how patents work, but especially in the US and other countries like China, who simply steal other peoples ideas since they're almost impossible to be held accountable. I doubt you can get China to overhaul whatever patent system they have. Even if you do, they probably won't enforce it. But I agree that the system needs an overhaul. This Samsung vs. Apple crap is stupid. It doesn't do anyone any good.

AJ will not return to Sox
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) I bet Flowers also draws more walks in the first half than Pierzynski has ever drawn in a single season He might also strike out 4 times more. But if he hits twice as many home runs and draws twice as many walks, I can care less.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) I heard Scioscia interviewed yesterday. He seemed to indicate one of his outfielders would be gone. Was excited about Morales having a full, healthy off-season. Not that it means anything. He also was mentioning how Trumbo played the 2nd half with an injury (and that was what hurt his production). I love Trumbo. But in no way would the Angels trade Trumbo straight up for Floyd. The thing with Trumbo is that the Sox have no real need for him. He's an awful defender everywhere except 1B.

AJ will not return to Sox
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) Mike Caruso. He finished 3rd for the rookie of the year hitting .306 and was out of baseball 2 years later. Obviously, he's no Trout, but good rookies do flame out. You can't compare Mike Trout to ordinary rookies. He's not ordinary.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I agree. Hits in the minors, hasn't hit great in the bigs but is extra slightly-below-replacement-player depth. Worst case scenario you give a bat to Charlotte. Russ Canzler kicked our ass during that last home series against Cleveland.

AJ will not return to Sox
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) According to Phil Rogers, the Sox are offering AJ one year $4 million. They obviously don't particularly care if he comes back. That's such a low-ball offer. I'd at least give him what he got last year.
