QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:59 PM) But seriously, let's buy low on Mat Gamel. There were those rumors about him coming over for a Matt Thornton trade last year or 2 years ago. He is coming off an injury year, a year after he hit .310 with 28 HR, 96 RBI and only 84 K with a .912 OPS in 130 games in AAA. The guy has hella power, hits for average, doesn't strike out a lot for a power guy, and he plays 3B (although, not that well I've heard). He's stuck out about as frequently as Adam Dunn at the ML level so far.

The thing with Morrison is that he doesn't have the range to play the OF, but he's got a good arm. Third base maybe?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) Did he rake in the minors? I will agree that his first season in the pros was really good, it was also the only season when he was healthy. Not sure if I'm willing to say when healthy he can rake. Has he proven himself enough? Morrison's got a good bat. I'm willing to say last year was an anomaly. He didn't get along with Ozzie and got hurt. Plus the team sucked. I thought he was alright in 2011 with the bat, although I expected better. He did slump towards the end of the year. The thing I'm worried about is his defense. He's an awful defender in the OF. He'll probably get moved to 1B in a few years. FWIW, Bill James projects a .256/.347/.460 line for Morrison with 23 homers in 628 PA. If he plays at the Cell, I'd expect the power numbers to go up a little.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) Oh, and I can't believe the Rangers are offering up Mike Olt for R.A. Dickey. s***, I think we could easily make a Floyd package as good as a 38-year-old knuckleballer with an unpredictable future. That's insane. Dickey does have a longer shelf life though, being a knuckleballer and all.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) It really sounds like Logan Morrison. The idea of Morrison alone sucks. There would have to be some subsequent deals to make a Morrison acquisition make sense.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) Dislike of a player from his years on another club absolutely cannot stop you from doing what is best for the team. We don't know if there is a move, or what other possible moves would be out there. But it is pretty messed up to hate a guy forever because of HRs he hit against us. The entire point would be to add him and then he'd be on YOUR team. Problem solved He's in another league now. It doesn't really matter much anymore.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) Where are the make up concerns with him? Hopefully it's Choo, and the Indians are just waiting on Swisher's decision. Where the hell did the Indians get money to sign somebody like Swisher?

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) What about Choo? He's had off the field issues too and can slug better than LoMo or Rasmus. Is he a "tough" KW type though? Choo was so tough he skipped out on military service. I'd love to have him though. He'd make a great #2 or #3 hitter.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Logan Morrison and Colby Rasmus come immediately to mind. I don't want Rasmus. LoMo I can deal with. I really liked Rasmus two years ago, but I've soured on him since. Neither are big time improvements over what we have right now though.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) FWIW...Talks progressing for a guy that's been on the short wishlist lately. Conflicting make up concerns but when healthy, dude can slug and plays the game KW "tough". Deal has a good chance as of yesterday. Some risk but could be an impact move. Corresponding move(s) likely required which is the hold up. Interesting... Uh Josh Hamilton? lol LoMo?

How and why did you become a Sox fan?
I was taken to my first baseball game in 2000 by my dad's boss at the time. Didn't really think much of the game at the time. I didn't really understand baseball too much back then. Nobody in my family knew anything about baseball. After flipping through the channels one day, I found a Sox game (this was after I attended my first game). I watched that one, then the one after that, and I just couldn't stop watching. Maybe it was because The Sox were really exciting in 2000. Lots of offensive firepower with Frank and Mags having great years. I basically learned all the rules of baseball by watching the team that year and I've been following the team ever since.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) Huh? Do you think the loss was his fault or something? He did throw two costly picks. I thought Cutler played well for the most part, but he should be criticized for how he played, especially early on and later in the game.

Wow Billy Beane, did you seriously just turn down Myers for Brett Anderson? I really like Anderson, but the guy never stays healthy.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) Huh? What does the offensive output of Hosmer and Moustakas have to do starting pitching over there? Davis is obviously a starter, he's only in TB's pen due to their very uncharacteristic SP depth. Hosmer and Moose will help that staff out with their gloves & the bullpen will hold the leads they get. Santana also is a very interesting change of scenery candidate. He's very Floydish mentally but KC is much lower pressure and the stuff is definitely there. Plus he has a contract to play for. That team is going to be tough to beat, and still, it's December 10th. KC still has a bunch of tradeable prospects and some salary they could shed in Frenchy & Chen, plus Hochevar's salary could be gone. That's not what I meant. What I meant the team isn't going to be all that good if they don't hit really well, because clearly that pitching staff is full of question marks and mediocre pitchers after Shields.

Unless Moose and Hosmer both go on to have breakout years, I don't see a rotation of Shields, Guthrie, Santana, Mendoza, and Chen/Hochevar doing any real damage.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) I believe if the Rangers miss out on Lohse and/or Sanchez, the Sox could be good trading partners. Floyd for Olt and others? Not in a million years. Floyd's value should be higher after those guys are off the market, but we're not getting Mike Olt for him.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Doesn't matter, their fans deserve to have a team that doesn't continually suck garbage all year long. This team could actually win 80+ games, something they haven't done in a decade. They no longer have to hope their prospects pan out and save them, because for the past decade, they haven't. If they add a couple more pieces, they could be the #2 dog in this division. This entire thought process is wrong. Just because their fans have suffered long enough doesn't mean they should get dealt mediocrity. The goal in baseball is to win championships, not make your fans feel slightly better by going above .500. James Shields does not make the Royals a championship caliber team. With what they gave up, they should have gotten back David Price. Not James Shields. Dayton Moore has said for years to "believe in the process" of developing young talent. They did fine with that when Hosmer and Moustakas panned out (sort of). But now they totally screwed all those Royals fans who waited and "believed" in Dayton Moore's process. You don't win championships by dealing your best pitching prospect AND one of the best prospects in baseball for a 5 win pitcher that might not even come back after 2014 and a borderline #5 starter. That's ridiculous and stupid. This is a slap in the face to all Royals fans who give a s*** and know anything about baseball.
