  1. Yeesh, lots of people dislike Lindstrom on this site. For a guy with a 3.5 ERA/FIP, he sure gets a lot of hate. I understand his K/BB numbers aren't good, but he rarely gives up the long ball. So peripheral-wise, he's not too bad.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Even though I knew it was Japan, the first name that popped into my head was Dusty Baker. Japanese Dusty Baker.
  3. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:15 AM) The walk off against Aaardsma was probably the best stroke I've see put on a baseball in my life. I especially loved the reaction from the catcher & pitcher simultaneously immediately after he made contact. That was a great game. I remember screaming at the top of my lungs when he hit that. I woke up my roommate who was sleeping...
  4. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) We're going to be in on Choo. Book it. He's a Boras client. I'd love Choo in right. The guy is everything this team lacks.
  5. The new banner is awesome.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) Yea I'm not believing 6 K's a game either, unless those teams just completely sucked ass. In Chili's league, he's allowed to throw the ball like a baseball. That's how he's getting those Ks.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) Choosing which marginal benefit you like today determines which things receive more development over time. For instance, while SD card slots are cool, they are becoming less and less common because customers apparently have other priorities. Or maybe it's because most people don't need more than 32 GB of storage on their phones. Unless you're loading your entire music library and movie library onto your phone, you should have more than enough space. I have 20 games on my Nexus 7 and I still have 13 GB left.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) I simply hate WAR being thrown out as the be-all, end-all discussion point in these situations. It's like we're back in Moneyball and we're ignoring the Grady Fuson group of scouts who are there to say, "Yes, but...." from having watched his entire career, his body language, his moping, his "banishment" from Toronto and tempestuous relationship with the fans. Of all the starting players on the White Sox since 2009, there are probably fewer Rios jerseys (being sported at USCF) than just about any player, which is telling, considering he's been our best player (arguably) in 2012 and 2013, but does anyone REALLY CARE about losing him or NOT watching him play another game in a Sox uniform? Will anyone say "it's such a shame" we will never watch Alex play for us in the future? Not many. And I know he's part of the reason (at least in the top five) that I haven't cared about the White Sox the last couple of months, waiting for him to be replaced by Garcia. Why does that even matter? Come on caulfield, you're better than this. That's something greg would say to support his argument.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:21 AM) This will be my 6th year doing this tournament. We've played on some of those 275 ft fields. I think I've only seen 1 HR hit, and I don't think I've ever even 1 hopped the wall on them. It's a tease. I've been missing home runs by 5 feet in batting practice on 300 foot fields. It's irritating.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) That was such a dumb, dumb trade. Who didn't see this coming? There's writers in KC saying the deal still isn't bad. When the Royals finish the year with 82 wins and a third place finish, we'll see what they say then.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) I respectfully disagree. We're talking about Alex Rios here. I think their fan base, if knowledgeable, knows he is far from a savior or even a great ballplayer. I'd think some of their fan base won't want him at all. What did Alex Rios do to you? Like seriously. I'd like to know. Because your personal vendetta against him is hilarious and confusing.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) In the past, free agency has tended to pay out about $5m per WAR, and as a 3-4 WAR player, he's actually a touch underpaid. If we count the 2 months we had him in 09, Rios has produced 7.7 WAR for the Sox (that's with really s***ty seasons in 09 and 11). So if we value those 7.7 WAR at $5 million per WAR, that's ~$39 million. The Sox have paid him around $45 million thus far. So he's been slightly overpaid. This is a rough calculation. It's probably more than $5 million per WAR now.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) Mark Reynolds DFAd by the Indians. He's probably the best 3b FA next offseason. Holy crap, Reynolds fell off a cliff after a hot start.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) I don't see why the Sox should send any money. Even though I feel he is grossly overpaid, a lot of people on here are indicating his salary isn't totally out of line for huge-market teams. If we can't get a "great" prospect for Rios, then take 2 lower level young, average players with a bit of an upside and call it a trade. As long as Texas pays the whole thing. With what Rios has produced for the White Sox so far, he's been paid just about the right amount of money.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Also, if Rios does move, can he claim to be "Mr. August"? I've never seen a guy of his caliber being claimed off waivers twice.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 10:43 PM) Someone might want to tell him not to look so bored when hitting mammoth bombs. Fun fact: Wil Myers only has .6 less WAR than James Shields and he's only played in 41 games. How does Dayton Moore still have a job?
  17. I totally thought we weren't going to win another game for the rest of the year before this series. Thanks A-Rod!
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Probably allowed them to cut the bezel as thin as they did. I'm just a big fan of using the physical volume buttons for my camera shutter...I think having to tap a virtual icon on the screen when trying to take a picture is terrible, it causes the phone to move, etc. One of the really cool features it seems to have is Guest Mode, not sure if this is an LG thing or not, even though I wouldn't hand my phone to a kid at any point, but I could see that being quite useful for some. And I hate plastic phones in this price point, I really do. I still like the HTC One the best when it comes to Android. There's restrictive user profiles in Android 4.3 now, but that's tablets only ATM. AnandTech's hands on says the back buttons feel fairly natural after a few minutes. I don't think LG would have done what they did had it been extremely uncomfortable. That's a product-killing fault if it is. My only concern is...does this phone lay flat when you put it on its back? The power button bulges out a bit. I also wouldn't say all plastic phones are bad. The glossy polycarbonate on this phone and Samsung phones are fairly annoying. They're prone to smudges and feel weird after holding the phone for a while. But the plastic used on devices like the Moto X are fine with me.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) They're starting to make bad design choices in order to accommodate these super thin bezels, such as moving power and volume buttons the the back. Having power/volume rockers on the edge of the phone makes it easy to reach into your pocket and find them, for example, when you're at the gym. Reviewers are saying the move of the buttons to the back actually works well because its a phablet sized device, but I don't know...seems awkward and something you'll have to feel around for. Just doesn't seem like a necessary design change, especially considering I use my volume up button as a camera shutter, which is extremely useful. -- Not a big fan of the ugly plastic back. ++ Good choice on LG for using an IPS display. ++ Screen looks very good. I think moving the buttons to the back has more to do with them trying to make the device thinner.
  20. LG just announced the G2. 5.2 inch screen, but about the size of the Galaxy S4 and almost no bezels around the phone (remember that convo about bezels not existing Y2HH? It's about that time). The power and volume buttons are on the back of the phone, which is interesting from a design perspective, but also weird from a user perspective. I guess we'll see how the it functions in the real-world. It's also the first phone with a Snapdragon 800, clocked at 2.26 GHz. 3000 mAH battery, so it should last a good 20 hours, even with the 1080P screen and the beast processor. This is a incredible piece of hardware and there is a chance the next Nexus phone will be based off of it.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) That's right where I put my finger! lol Oh cause your left handed. Yeah, that makes sense. But still unless your hands are big, it's really hard to accidentally press it. My volume rockers are on the left side of the phone and I never accidentally press them.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) I don't get it either, I was just saying I don't like the idea of it being on the side. Very easy to accidentally press. On the upper right side of the phone? It's pretty much impossible to accidentally press it. I've never had an issue with it and the last 4 phones I've owned had it on the side.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Eh not really, sometimes I guess. But how hard is it to learn the new location of a random button? I just don't get the big complaint. It's not the location, it's the convenience of the location given the size of the phone.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) I am totally dumbfounded as to what is wrong with the placement of the power button For a long phone like the HTC One, it should really be on the side of the phone. It's easier for everyone to press it.
  25. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Gotta agree with you on this point...how often do people actually use their damned power buttons. I reboot my phone maybe once a month, and it's the only thing I use the power button for. I think I can find the "other side" it's placed on after a week of use. That's like complaining that not ever PC has the power button in the same spot. Who cares...so long as it has one, take the five f***ing seconds and learn where it is. You don't lock/unlock your phone?
