  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Typically the stats are adjusted every season. If I remember correctly from THE BOOK, the formula was created using historical data, but the probability weights can be altered to fit any sample size. They alter the weights every year. But when your sample size is a entire league for the entire year, it's probably alright to adjust it every year.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) But at least for now, we're mentally calibrated on OPS. I know what a .900 OPS hitter is doing, I know what an .800 OPS hitter is doing, I know what a .700 hitter is doing, I know what a .600 OPS hitter was doing. When I quote those numbers, everyone knows roughly what that hitter is doing without me defining the standard. If you post RC+, great, but you have to calibrate me in the same post, I'm just not set on it yet. Not exactly. A guy with a .900 OPS might have a .330 OBP but a .570 SLG. Or he might be .400/.500. There's a big difference between those two hitters. I have to deal with OPS because that's all most websites can show me. If I'm more interested in the player, I go on FanGraphs. I've also gotten to the point where I can glance at OBP and SLG and sort of guess the wOBA. I'm usually like 5-10 points off though.
  3. Chris Sale finally got a win. LOL
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) DIRECTLY TO YOUR F*CKING BRAIN There's no defending this. The iPhone 5 is the Aaron Hernandez of smartphones. Aaron Hernandez was also the owner of numerous iPhone 5s.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) FWIW, HTC is still pooping out updates for the other phones it released at that time, just not the One S (unfortunately, it is probably because very, very few people got the One S). Pooping out updates huh?
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) Which is why a smart GM will always, always, always make sure he gets a throw-in when he trades away a big leaguer. Wasn't Donaldson a first rounder? I don't know if he was really a throw-in.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 07:07 AM) I was never at WSI long enough for a ban, noticing early on that I didn't care much for the site. I did however receive a warning there for being overly religious. I had simply agreed with something another poster had said and I replied "Amen brother, preach it!". For that I received a warning. I just never went back. I got suspended for a week for being too negative in a game thread. Then I got perma-banned for posting about something technology related that they thought was illegal at the time (it wasn't legal or illegal at that time and it ended up being legalized a year later). The mods there just enjoy finding any little thing to ban you over.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) WSI and ST are just different sites. There really are advantages to both, it just depends on what you are looking for. I post over there occasionally, but mostly I just like to keep that account open to keep in touch with their Mods/Admins, occasionally sell Sox tickets I can't use from my seasons, and contribute when I see some information missing. I actually got suspended over there once, amazingly, for something I posted on a Tigers board. Long story short, the Tigers fans were asking about Sox boards, and I provided a synopsis. I honestly gave pluses and minuses for both. Turns out some poster from WSI also posted on the Tigers board, clipped out some of my post out of context, sent it to WSI Mods, and poof.. banned. I explained it to them, showed them the whole post, and they let me back. So they weren't totally unreasonable, though I thought the idea of banning someone for what the posted on a different board was a little much. Obviously I chose this site as my primary place, but I can understand how other personalities may prefer WSI's style. Hahaha what? That's beyond ridiculous. It's like they don't really know how the internet is supposed to function.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 02:20 AM) T-Mobile is pretty fantastic in Baltimore and DC as long as you don't leave the metro area, and it's EDGE. It's nice that they're finally getting LTE and its really fast even with 1 bar, I see it on LTE in more places every day, but those rural towers could really use some HSPA, let alone LTE. Pretty good down here in Austin too. I'll get full bars of LTE in certain areas. 25 down and 10 up with 40 ms latency. My signal at home and at work are spotty, but with T-Mobile that's sort of expected.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Huh? I'd love for boozer to turn into Chris bosh. I meant that in a physical way. Not a basketball skills way. Bosh is way more skilled than Boozer.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) Carlos Boozer looks "noticeably slimmer and toned" this summer, according to beat writer K.C. Johnson. When asked about his improved physique, Boozer replied, "We got D-Rose back. Our fast break is going to be a little faster." Boozer is owed $32.1 million over the next two seasons, an anchor-load of cash under the new CBA, but at least (unlike some amnesty candidates) he's still productive -- he averaged 16.2 points and 9.8 rebounds in 32 minutes per game last year, and he's missed a combined three games in the past two seasons. Lol for those who saw my mix up they know this isn't the first time Boozer has looked noticeably thinner. I like the idea of speeding things up. Didn't Boozer slim down quite a bit during the lockout too? We don't want him to turn into Chris Bosh...
  12. He was one of the best setup men in baseball for a good 3 year stretch (08-10). He's also probably the best reclamation project for Don Cooper and one of the best trades KW ever made.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) I'm not expecting much for Crain at all. The guy is on the DL. The guy is aging. The guy is a free agent after the season. The guy can't close. Yes, his scoreless innings streak was INCREDIBLE. I applaud him, but I think we'll get two prospects of the Jacobs variety. What do you expect for Crain? Jesse Crain has a 0.72 ERA and the peripherals to back a lot of it up. You're not going to get a B+ or A prospect for him (well, maybe you can, depending on how desperate the team is), but he should fetch you at least 1 good B prospect. Matt Thronton is older than Crain, also an FA after the season, and also can't close. His numbers were meh and his peripherals sucked. Yet we still got a C/C+ prospect for him. You'd think Crain would fetch a lot more.
  14. It's a little early to judge. His numbers just look weird at this point. He's not going to hit .342 (obviously). He's not going to only walk 3% of the time (god I hope not). And the power will come back eventually. Gordon's had notoriously low BABIPs in his career and some of that had to do with luck and some of it had to do with his batted ball rates. Perhaps this new approach has changed that.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) Yes, scary. But you must admit Thornton wasn't exactly effective and he was only going to get worse. Great post, Harry. How can you say we got good value? This guy we got is a total longshot. Granted, I'd rather acquire a hitter than a pitcher, but Jacobs is not exactly a prime prospect. You were expecting a great prospect for Matt Thornton? If this is what we got in return for Jesse Crain, I'd be pissed. But Matt Thornton's kind of bad now.
  16. Pretty good value for someone who's now a overpaid mediocre reliever.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) Eh, how do you define good? Outside of the lottery, Butler and Taj are your only good picks late. 18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) That file does not work. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/07/09/go...y-enhancements/ Try one of those.
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 12:02 AM) We'll see. I don't think he's going to be a liability, but I'm not convinced he'll be very good either. He was solid defensively and showed flashes on offense, but he also played like 7 million minutes and scored about 14 a game at the end of the year. I do like that he can get to the line, hopefully his 3-point percentage wasn't a fluke. The Bulls almost won 3 games against the Heat with Keith Bogans as the SG 2 years ago. I think Jimmy scoring 12-14 points a game is fine. They don't need him to score 15+ a game. That'd be nice, but any kind of efficient offensive contribution from the 2 spot is good enough for me at this point.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) Unless the NBA lets Thibs put a shock collar on Monta that gives him 10,000 volts every time he takes a bad jumper, overplays a passing lane or slacks off defensively, I wouldn't expect miracles. How about Butler plays a full year before you toss him on the trash heap? He was a useful player last year that played on both ends of the floor. Every contender has at least one questionable player in the starting lineup, and Butler could easily be better than "questionable". Butler is way better than questionable. With the minutes he played last year and how effective he was in most of the games, I'm kind of already sold on him.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) Cool. So let's go into next season praying that Rose, Deng, Noah and Boozer are all healthy come playoff time (lol@that ever happening) and lose to Miami again. I'm shocked the Bulls were even looking at Ellis. Replace Boozer with Ellis (and assume Ellis is healthy) and you're looking at a second round exit if Rose and/or Noah are hurt. So in reality, it doesn't matter.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Ellis sucked last year. But stop it. The Bucks were never a good fit for him. And he's clearly better than Nate. Ellis shot 36.1% on nearly 5 attempts per game his last full year at GS. If he could do that, combined with his ability to put the ball on the floor/create and his defensive ball-hawking (he's usually in the top 10 in steals), he'd be much more impactful than Nate. Problem is that Rose is not a true PG and ball-dominant as f***. Could he adjust his game? I doubt it. Ellis is a mediocre defender at best. If Monta can go back to being 07-08 Monta, when he had a .580 TS%, I'd gladly trade anyone besides Butler, Rose, and Noah for him. Even then, he's not an ideal fit. Unless Thibs can get Ellis to stop chucking and do nothing but drive, I don't see how this makes the Bulls any better, regardless of how good of a deal we get in the trade.
  23. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:23 PM) Nate seriously was better last year. Don't let Monta's high usage rate fool you, Robinson's PER was a point higher, his TS% was like 5 points higher and he the same points and more assists per 40 than Monta did and a lower turnover rate. Now you can say that Nate usually isn't that good, but a $10 million a year player shouldn't be remotely comparable to a veteran minimum guy. I'm honestly hoping Nate is back. Depending on what the Bulls really offered, I'd much rather not have Ellis. I mean, FFS Earl Watson got signed already. Nate at the minimum would be awesome.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:13 PM) Not near the defensive liability as Nate (and that isn't a compliment to Monte). Nate is just a disaster on D though. Ellis is much better then Nate. Nate is the better shooter though. Lets not compare a guy who is a 20 PPG scorer with 5-6 APG over multiple NBA seasons to Nate. Not fair. The only thing Ellis does better is by being taller. Ellis has the ability to guard small 2s and 1s. But he's only 6'4 and he's not exactly what most people call a good defender. If Nate got the minutes Ellis got with the volume of shots he throws up, Nate would score 20 PPG too. Just go look at Nate's Per 36 numbers.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 11:10 PM) My problem is, this is the Bulls. This isn't the White Sox who don't generate massive revenue. Bulls are one of the most profitable NBA franchises in the league and a total cash cow. I'm tired of seeing other franchises willing to get better by purely taking on some contracts. At this point, the Bulls FO can't do much in terms of spending money. Last year or two years ago? Yeah what you say is valid. But they're in the tax and over the cap. The only way to make big moves is by trades and with how the Bulls are philosophically, they're not going to give up an arm and a leg just to have another star on the team when in reality it doesn't make them much better.
