QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) B.J. Upton with a slam. Rays up 8-1. lol. Only 3.5 behind Boston after today. Now people can stop b****ing about how horrible this September is because there are no interesting races. We've got two now. Upton absolute massacred that ball. That thing went at least 430 feet.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) When I was standing up for Jenks he still was earning a lot of saves. In fact, didn't he blow a similar amount to Sergio? And I like Sergio. And Matt? He was really good as closer this year. I said last year I was in favor of closer by committee with Jenks struggling some. Jenks was nowhere near as bad as Done. No, it's not that. It's the fact you got all offended when people made Bobby Jenks fat jokes last year. Now you're doing the same to Dunn. Oh the irony.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Wow that was a great play. Sucks for Cutler to have that as his first INT (and dropped numbers for those fantasy people out there.. ). Very few people actually start Cutler as their QB though. He's my backup.

Looks like Cutler has to throw an interception in every game, his fault or not.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Then I'm wrong. I've been wrong before. This new Sox trend of blaming the manager not the player, though, is boring and troubling. I guess the Cubs blame their manager for years now for playing Soriano and not just benching him. And all the fans of players who suck blame the manager for playing them. I'd prefer to blame the fat ass player. This is so ironic. Remember Bobby Jenks last season?

Absolutely loving what I've seen from the Bears today. They could be up by more, but I'm content with a 24 point lead.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Beckham never failed before pitchers started to make their adjustments to him. When he started to fail, he never knew how to get out of a struggle prior, and the majors isn't the place to learn. Look at Tank, they let him learn and take his bumps in the minors.. Now he is showing progress since last year. Tank had no plate discipline when he came to the Majors. Beckham was everything fans expected when he came up in 09. Decent power, good walk rate, ability to hit consistently. He was Major League ready. But if you look at his peripherals these past two years, you'll see he's nowhere near as patient (walk rate has dropped 2% every season since 09), his power is gone (100 point drop in ISO), and we all know the story about his batting average. Those two guys' development can't be compared.

WHAT THE HELL? WHITE SOX WINNER? RIOS WALK OFF SLAM?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) Because he's on a 4 year deal and he makes something like 14 mill a year. You may not like the reason, but that's it. I know that, but here's the reality of this situation. You have a player who is making a lot of money, but is also costing you money by being historically bad and contributing negative value to the team. So by playing him, you're just costing yourself more money. There is little use to try and turn him around this season. The best thing for him is to have him go work on things in the off-season and clear his head. Giving him PAs against left handed pitchers is the worst way to bring his confidence back or have him actually get a hit. And does it bother anyone that Ozzie didn't even know how much money Dunn is making this season? He's making $12 million, not 14.

WHAT THE HELL? WHITE SOX WINNER? RIOS WALK OFF SLAM?
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 02:52 AM) I thought you were being sarcastic when saying this. LOL. I think the reality was, however, that Ozzie was hoping Dunn would somehow get a walk off hit and it would perhaps do something to turn around this year (or next if he plans on being here). Still an awful decision, but seeing that we're out of it, it does water it down a bit. He's done this twice already. Once when this team was still in the race. I still believe Dunn can turn it around, but this season is good as lost. There's no point in even trying. Let him go home in the off-season, think things over, work on his swing, get in shape, and come back next year to earn his money.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) He's right. Do any of you guys think Ozzie doesn't KNOW Dunn sucks?? He knows. Then the question is: WHY THE f*** DOES HE PLAY HIM THEN?

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Dunn didn't get the big pay day for hitting .037 against lefties.. did he? He got it for driving in Runs. Dunn is not in the situation if Rios, or Alexi gets hits earlier in the game. That wasn't the only time they had bases loaded and less than 2 outs. Ozzie doesn't need to show up Kenny.. Kenny's record is case enough for that. One of his smartest moves, was to start Dunn, who had success against Carmona, who is also struggling. A good manager adjusts to what he has at hand. He shouldn't have to complain about whatever his GM did (after all, that is his boss). A good manager doesn't let a player who has constantly failed against a certain type of pitcher hit against that pitcher in late game situations no matter how much money he makes. Some of you act like Ozzie didn't have a choice in the matter or didn't have somebody better to use in that situation. He did and he did have a choice. He just chose not to because he thinks Dunn makes too much money. I guess people have their own definitions of what a good manager is, but to me, a good manager is one that deals with what he has and gets the most out of what he has. Ozzie hasn't done that since 2005.

QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:59 PM) I like this one. They could show some "highlights" of Dunn and Rios at the plate, mixed in with some awful fielding, then say: 2012 White Sox: Deal with it. Or... 2012 White Sox: Trust the back of the baseball card Because that's all White Sox PR would say when they talked about Dunn and Rios.

WHAT THE HELL? WHITE SOX WINNER? RIOS WALK OFF SLAM?
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) From the article, seems like the manager was making some smart moves... So let bash him for the players not performing! How is pinch hitting for De Aza and not Dunn (because he apparently makes too much money) a smart move? If you're the manager and you're afraid of benching your high profile player that is hitting .037 against lefties, that means you're either a p****, flat out stupid, or trying to show up Kenny Williams.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,853786.story He's just taking shots at Kenny now. The "I have to play him" excuse is so f***ing stupid. Yeah, you can play him against pitchers he isn't 3-81 against. If you're b****ing about him not hitting, maybe you should put him in situations where he's more likely to hit. We all know it's Dunn's fault he sucks, but Guillen is making the situation so much worse by putting him in situations where he's just bound to fail.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Beckham, would have been in AAA for all of 09, if KW got a 3B... And let him grow and fail in the minors. IMO, and I don't know if this is possible, but you bring in a veteran like Mark Ellis, have him compete for with Beckham, if Beckham can't make it throw him in AAA, until he can hit .300 for over a month at the min. Ellis brings a nice stopgap, and a good backup as well if Bacon Who is going to replace Morel, the great Mark Teahan, another one of KW great PUs. As said before, The Sox have not had a 3b on their roster since Crede left. Beckham was great in 09. If anything, he should have built on his success that season. Instead, he's been messing with his swing ever since.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) Moneyball is all about SABRmetrics. the SABRmetric way of puting teams together was wildly successful during the steroid era, wonder if there is any correlation? No, Moneyball was about Michael Lewis giving Billy Beane and the Oakland front office a complete hand job. Sabermetrics existed long before Billy Beane and heavy steroid use. Research about Markov models of baseball lineups existed in the late 80s and there were numerous books written on similar research. People just think Moneyball made sabermetrics because it was the first time they heard about it.
