2012 MLB Catch All thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) lmao@they might deal Hellickson, who's multiple years away from arbitration, and dead-set against trading Shields, who's making, what, $9 million next year and more after that? Edit: I think it's $7.5 million Shields will make next year. It's just them trying to drive the asking price up.

Is Jeff Manto this dumb
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) So Jeff Manto's silly little stat -- (R+RBI-HR)/G -- tweaked to account for the fact that a HR earns you both a run and an RBI as opposed to just one or the other -- (R+RBI-(HR*2))/G -- when calculated for last year's team looks something like this: 0.815 De Aza 0.797 Pierre 0.766 Ramirez 0.752 Konerko 0.695 Quentin 0.566 Rios 0.560 Beckham 0.543 Pierzynski 0.517 Viciedo 0.516 Morel 0.500 Flowers 0.459 Dunn 0.448 Vizquel 0.423 Lillibridge 0.314 Teahen Now, what have we learned? Absolutely nothing. Ozzie must have been a fan of this stat too. Look at how good Pierre is!

Is Jeff Manto this dumb
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:27 AM) See, this condescending attitude is what pisses me off about sabr advocates. It's always thumbing your nose at anything that doesn't abide strictly by some incredibly general set of data, despite the fact that there are always scenarios that the data is simply not specific enough to address. I honestly don't see how (Runs + RBI - Home Runs)/Games is useful in player evaluations. Sorry if I think that way...

Philip Rivers has been extraordinarily mediocre this year, if not bad. He's a turnover machine.

CC's extension adds one year at $25 million for 2016. Also adds option for 2017 worth $25 million with a $5 million buyout. So basically, the Yankees end up piling on another $30 million to keep Sabathia. They should have never put the opt-out clause in there.

Dickey and AJ does not receive a single point, unlike his teammates Quentin (2 points) and Pierre (1 point). Beckham also finished 9th at 2B with 26 points, 8 of 10 ballots, 2nd on Glanville's list. Alexei finished 8th at SS, 31 points, 7 of 10 ballots, 3rd on Hal Richman's list, 5th on Neyer's. Full list of winners: C Weiters 1B Pujols 2B Pedroia 3B Beltre SS Tulo LF Gardner CF Austin Jackson RF Upton P Buehrle http://www.fieldingbible.com/complete-votetally.asp How the hell did Alexei finish 8th when he had a +11 UZR (1st in baseball) and a +7 DRS (10th in baseball)?

So wait, A.J. got a Gold Glove nomination? Wha?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Oh I forgot, that award is based on how good of a hitter you are. Makes some sense now (not really though).

Sox officially hire coaches
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Only in Spring Training, if ever. 2006 and 2007. On Jose Bautista - "If we can get him to replicate his swing three days in a row, Jose Bautista could hit 25 homers a year. In fact, I think he could hit 40. He is just so easily frustrated when it doesn’t go right that he blames himself and forgets what he’s learned. Or ignores it. But of all these guys I have, if you want one of them who will eventually do something special in this game, I’d pick him. I wouldn’t be very surprised." Now this guy is a man of vision...

Right up Kenny's ally.

Potential free agents?
I got a feeling this off-season is gonna be a lot like the 09 one. We're not going to sign anyone worthwhile. If anything, it's going to be some reclamation project for Cooper to fix or some role players for the bench. The opening day lineup is pretty much set already. I like the idea of Bedard a lot, but I think he'll get a decent deal from somebody. He's coming off a decent season. I would not mind bringing in a Josh Willingham for the right amount of money as insurance. Just in case Dunn or Rios both suck it up next year. David DeJesus also seems like a good buy-low candidate.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) Working on my all time teams, here's what I've got done. Chicago Bulls - Rose and Jordan can just go crazy together, especially with all the D surrounding them. C - Artis Gilmore, Joakim Noah, Tom Boerwinkle PF - Bob Love, Horace Grant, Toni Kukoc SF - Scottie Pippen, Chet Walker, Luol Deng SG - Michael Jordan, Jerry Sloan, Ben Gordon PG - Derrick Rose, Norm Van Lier, Kirk Hinrich Utah Jazz - Ball movement is great between Stockton and Maravich. Malone and Eaton clean the glass. Deron, Hornacek, and Boozer off the bench is crazy. C - Mark Eaton, Thurl Bailey, Mehmet Okur PF - Karl Malone, Carlos Boozer, Paul Milsap SF - Adrian Dantley, Andrei Kirilenko, Byron Russell SG - Pete Maravich, Jeff Hornacek, Darrell Griffith PG - John Stockton, Deron Williams, Rickey Green Los Angeles Lakers - The Lakers went with a lineup of Magic, Kobe, Mikan, Kareem, Shaq on me. This team can get massive or small. C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, George Mikan, Rudy LaRusso PF - Shaquille O'Neal, Lamar Odom, AC Green SF - Elgin Baylor, James Worthy, Michael Cooper SG - Kobe Bryant, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich PG - Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, Derek Fisher Boston Celtics - Larry Bird makes this team run. Parish-Russell is frightening when the Celtics run it out. C - Bill Russell, Dave Cowens, Robert Parish PF - Kevin McHale, Tom Heinsohn SF - Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, Cedric Maxwell SG - Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Reggie Lewis, Danny Ainge PG - Bob Cousy, JoJo White, Dennis Johnson Gonna work on Knicks and Cavaliers next, as I don't have to make too many players for them. I did a fantasy draft. PG Rose SG Mayo SF Nick Young PF Love C Ibaka Affalo, Gallinari, Barea, Morrow, Hawes, Asik, and Daye on the bench. I make it rain 3s all day.

The AL has less s***ty teams than the NL. That's pretty much why the AL is considered to be stronger. The good NL teams can definitely beat the good AL teams and vice versa. The Rangers were one strike away from winning it two nights ago.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
BF3 for PC is unreal. I can't even get a consistent 30 FPS on high with no AA and I have a 5770 (about a two year old card, but still plays every other game out there just fine). But then again, I didn't bother to overclock the card lately, maybe I'll do that just for this game. This game makes Crysis look mediocre.

Ozzie Fires Back
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) This is the general manager of the team. He spends Spring Training with them. He's turned over a table mid-season before. The General Manager being present should not add to dysfunction. The GM deserves to know WTF is going on with his team too...

Ozzie Fires Back
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Cowley's reports are one-sided, but KW and Jerry won't talk to him, so hey, he gets to fire away with one side of the story. I can't believe people aren't a bit concerned about Coop after it was alleged he was a rat and snitch. Who's gonna want to pitch for him if that's true? Telling the GM what happens in the locker room doesn't make him a snitch. WTF is this now? Are we in the hood where we can't talk to the 5-O or something?

Ozzie Fires Back
Coop and Kenny should both not say a word about this afterwards. Let Ozzie mouth off and make a fool of himself.

Sox OF could look different in '12
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) Viciedo belongs there. He's limited in range but has a cannon for an arm, which allows him a shot at making throws to 3b that Rios can't make. The LF doesn't get many shots at throwing a guy out at 1b. Range is more important than arm strength IMO. Rios was a great RF in Toronto and I'm sure he'll still be a good LF here next year. The thing with Rios is that he takes his bat to the outfield with him. If he sucks at the plate, he also sucks in the outfield...

Why not just put Rios back in RF?

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) I don't know how you can overrate Suh. Maybe if you said he was the best defensive tackle of all time. I haven't seen a defensive player have that type of immediate impact in a really long time. --- Can't say I'm not happy about the Bills being 4-2 at this point, especially since both losses have been by 3 points and I had no expectations for this team other than 6 wins going into the season, but they really should have won today, and it all happened on Fitzpatrick's 2nd INT. His 1st INT was a ball he should have never thrown, but it was also a ball that Webster should have never picked either and it was incredible that he did. Stevie Johnson had Webster beat on that last one pretty badly and if Fitz leads him instead of throwing up a jump ball, then the Bills go up 31-24 and force the Giants to punch it in. If not that, they were on the Giants 30 and could have simply run it a few times, maybe tried to pick up a 1st, and killed clock, forcing Eli to make a comeback. The officials seemed to side with the Giants, but that's homefield advantage and it wasn't enough to kill the Bills. The Giants DBs are not that good either. All they do is follow exactly where the receiver goes and turn around when he goes up for the catch to make it legal. Teams should totally take advantage of that by dekeing the DBs...just have a WR go up for a phantom pass, have the DB turn around, and have the WR turn on the jets. They'd be toast and it would make them second guess their tendencies. Fitzpatrick rushed that throw. He was still back pedaling when he got rid of it. Johnson had Webster beat.
