QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) Yup. So both the Dbacks and Rays got cheap/premium talent for an underachiever that's gone after this year. Wow, Joyce is beasting after his piss-poor start. ZiPS projects him to have a 20 homer year with a .380 wOBA this season.

Ozzie vs Soxtalk
And oh...two words: Jim Thome. Followed by another two words: Mark Kotsay.
-
Ozzie vs Soxtalk
I think Soxtalk wins just on the amount of unnecessary sac bunts and failed sac bunts that have happened over the course of the past year.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:25 AM) I know now is not the time to be talking about trades but if a Noah/Taj/Picks for Howard is on the table Id do it. Taj is a great player as is Noah and its a win win either way either you have this team thats up 1-0 in the eastern conference finals or you have a team with the defensive and offensive player of the year which would be pretty effin nifty. Dwight gives you everything Noah gives plus a couple more rebounds and a lot more scoring potential which. With the coaching of Thibs I think we can get a guy in the draft that can do a lot of what Taj can do in the 2nd round. Keep Thomas around for a year while you develop the 2nd rounder under the tutelage of Thibs/Dwight/Thomas which is helluva group to learn from. How can not like Rose/Watson Bogans/Korver/Brewer Deng/Korver/Brewer/Butler Boozer/Thomas/2nd Pick Howard/Asik/Thomas It may take Brewer too for cap purposes or merely to get the trade done talent wise, I think orlando would benefit from a perimeter defender like Brewer who they could play ahead of Qrich. Butler could come in and hive you some minutes where brewer would usually play it would make the magic look somethin like Nelson/Arenas Richardson/Reddick Hedu/Brewer Gibson/Bass Noah/Anderson/Orton plus a few first rounders looks a lot better than Dwight leaving and them being left with nothing. Once again whichever way you go its win win. Youre a great team now and a trade like that only makes you an even greater team. That Magic team would be pretty bad, like barely an 8th seed bad. You're relying on Nelson, a past-his-prime Arenas, Turkoglu, and Richardson as your offense. Gibson and Noah aren't good offensive players and you'd be losing about 10 points per game and 2-3 boards from Howard alone. Not to mention how good of a defender Howard is in comparison to Noah. The only reason you make that deal if you're Orlando is if you know for sure that Howard isn't coming back. Even then, I'd take Bynum or Gasol instead of the deal the Bulls can put up.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) That was a masterpiece out of Dirk tonight. I'd say the efficiency people would have to love that performance. 48 points on only 15 shots is unheard of. His TS% was .940.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) Semantics, shmantics. Don't forget the fix being in for Chicago getting the #1 pick ahead of Miami Quit crying, it was the Heat who got everything this off-season. The probability of tampering during that processes and the probability of that draft being fixed are about equal.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) Well yeah, some players are overpaid, some are underpaid. Bautista is definitely more than earning his contract, I'm not doubting that. I understand how the statistic works. I just think it's ridiculous if it just projects numbers that are incredibly unrealistic. He was so good this year, he should have made $65 million in one year. Then why doesn't his agent hold out next season and ask for that much? He's worth that much, right? Cause he's already under contract, lol. And I doubt anybody uses WAR dollar values to negotiate contracts. It's just there to see whether or not a team got a good amount from their dollar in the longterm.

I just want a damn SG who can play better than Bogans. I'd even settle for Shane Battier. Affalo would be ideal, but he's an RFA. I would love to see what the Bulls can do with somebody like Ray Allen. My god that would be unfair.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) Which kinda reinforces why RBI is a garbage stat. I remember when Bautista had 7 HR and 10 RBI earlier this year. Nobody gets on in front of him. Bonds also had a couple of years where he failed to get above 100 RBI or was just around that despite hitting 40+ HR. I think he only had 130 the year he hit 73.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) LOL at any stat that puts a player's worth at $70M for one season. Barry Bonds had a couple of seasons where he was worth a good $40-$50 million and deservedly so. He was the best offense you can buy.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 16, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) Whatever dude. Maya hasn't proven a damn thing at the WNBA level. Sure she was a great college player but so was Christian Laettner back in his day. Yes, her athleticism is impressive(set the record at the combine with a 9 inch vertical) and she was undeniably an amazing college player but until she proves that she can play at the professional level, your argument really holds no weight. DO YOU KNOW WHO THIS GIRL IS? SHE'S FROM MINNESOTA, SHE HAS A 9 INCH VERTICAL! DID YOU NOT GET THE MEMO?

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 16, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) The Heat apologists are hilarious. "This is what the Heat need to do if they are going to win game 2 and then take the series." Well, there are certain things that I would need to do to get both Blake Lively and Meagan Good into bed - it doesn't mean that any of those things can actually happen. The one I love the most is talking about how the Heat need to rebound better. Of course they do. Now tell me- how are they going to do it? "duuuuuuhhhhh ummmmmmmmmmmm durrrrrr" f***ing Chris Broussard is the worst of them all too. He's so loud and annoying. The reason the Bulls out-rebounded the Heat so much in the first game is because the Heat doubled Rose at the 3 pt line, which is really really stupid. Trapping Rose out that early has no benefits. By trapping Rose with both the PG and a big man like the Heat were doing, it allows the Bulls to run a make-shift pick and roll, have the Heat over-pursue and double Rose and then have Rose pass it out to the screener. Who then has a 4 on 3 situation in the lane. This is how the Bulls were able to have some nice ball movement in the lane, getting Noah and Asik some easy dunks. This also allows the Bulls to get many second chances, something they were good at to begin with. But with this sort of setup, they are absolutely unstoppable on the offensive boards since Joel Anthony or whoever they have doubling Rose is out of position by the time the rebounding opportunity is there. So the easy fix is to stop doubling Rose up at the 3 point line. Sure, it could mean Rose gets easier shots, but it's not like he was struggling to score in game 1. If Spolestra's smart, he ditches this horrible game plan he had going and let Rose get his. The Heat can't afford to get dominated on the boards like they did in game 1. The Heat will have trouble regardless with the Bulls, this is simply a bad matchup for them. But they will win their fair share of games in this series and it should be a lot closer from now on.
