  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) Brandon McCarthy was f***ing dealing tonight. Maybe he'll pan out after all. McCarthy's been a star in my Sabermetric fantasy league this year. I think he's in the top 20 in terms of points per start. His peripherals are excellent, he just gets no run support from the A's.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) I'm still not sold on De Aza over the duration of a full season. Flowers, to me, is still below average defensively and that K-rate is still way too high for him to sustain any kinda offensive consistency. But he has legitimate power and he can talk a walk. Dayan is just real. Not sure how well his glove will play. But offensively, he's a juggernaut. See what a little youth infusion can do? Everybody is so scared of young prospects. "Most prospects fail." Well no s***! There's like 4 billion minor leaguers at a time in any given year and, of course, a majority of them will fail. The truly elite organizations can identify and hit on the ones who don't fail. Flowers should be fine. You can always off-set a high K rate with a high walk rate to prevent terrible slumps. And there is a reason why De Aza was let go by the Marlins. He's not that talented. His skillset is probably that of a borderline starting CF/4th outfielder. However, what is encouraging about De Aza this season is the power he's shown, it's a dramatic improvement over what he's done in previous years at any level. Either way, he should stick on the roster the next couple of years as he'd be a useful 4th outfielder at the least.
  3. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) That's it! PLANET RIOS! Pitbull has Planet Pit. Alex Rios has Planet Rios. There you have it.
  4. Please stop batting Rios in the 4 spot. It's embarrassing. Go with 1. LF Pierre 2. SS Ramirez 3. 1B Konerko 4. DH Viciedo 5. CF De Aza 6. C Flowers 7. RF Lillibridge 8. 2B Beckham 9. 3B Morel
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) It would be awesome if "Kenny "The Genius" Williams" read this site and went to the churros stand. You mean Holly.wood? WTF dude since when did this forum turn Holly.wood into Kenny "The Genius" Williams? lol
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I know I'm not the most popular poster on this site so I'd like to make a peace offering tonight. I'll be by the Churros stand tonight (section 154-55?) for the bottom of the 2nd and the first person that says "hey, Marty", I'll buy them a beer. I'll be in a gray shirt, green Sox hat. You hear that? Joe Cowley's gonna buy you free churros! I didn't know he had a heart!
  7. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) I always thought batting average didn't take into account walks, or is this some new overthought statistical crock of s*** that I've been lucky enough to ignore. You're right, it doesn't, only somebody who doesn't think at all would even think of incorporating walks into BA. But I was more or less alluding to the fact that he was playing better when the majority of the fanbase wanted him up in the Majors and that the extra month he stayed down in the minors did nothing for him. His OPS before the break was .909. His OPS after was .693.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) Johnson has been pretty bad though. Johnson's at least hitting for power. Hill's been hitting like Adam Dunn.
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Nah, its not really obvious considering prospects should be developed and not used as desperation pawns to bail out two awful contracts. In the long run the move to hold Viciedo down may actually pay off. Viciedo developed patience at the plate long before the calls for him started this year. He was actually hitting .320 something in July, then he got hurt, and his AVG went down to about .295 and his OPS went down by 45 points. Keeping him down there for the extra month or two did nothing for his development.
  10. Why the hell is our .214 hitting CFer that has a sub .600 OPS hitting cleanup? Ugh.
  11. Cowley is a joke and he seriously needs to be fired. Can't the organization just ban him?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) keithlaw keithlaw I guess Jeter couldn't handle dating someone with more range than he has Did you guys notice Jeter is hitting .300 again? What ESPN fails to mention is that he will have the lowest ISO of his career this season if he keeps it up. He's getting ever so close to Juan Pierre.
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) I know nobody likes to hear this argument, but if Konerko didn't play for the 2nd team in the 2nd city the guy is HoF. And he took a hometown discount to stay here. Him and Buehrle are the White Sox to me, why people even consider trading those guys is beyond me. Konerko doesn't get in regardless of which team he plays for. Unless he gets to 500 HR, he really doesn't have the numbers to be considered a Hall of Famer. I love Konerko, he and Buehrle are two of the greatest Sox of my generation, but his numbers are not hall worthy (as of now).
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) D backs got Hill and McDonald from Blue Jays Hill is a good pickup for them. Edit: NVM, they traded Kelly Johnson to get Hill. That's a downgrade.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) 410 feet doesn't seem too big. That's definitely not what she said.
  16. Big game tonight. Masterson's pitching tomorrow, so we gotta get this one.
  17. chw42 replied to DetroitSoxDog's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No...Adam Dunn is not getting sent down to the minors. Unless the Sox give him some BS injury and put him on the DL and have him do some rehab down there.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Lebron James being dunked on and then failing to put his hands up to defend against a 3 in a game in Taiwan. I'm surprised LeBron's entourage didn't try to confiscate this video.
  19. Cards fans I know hate LaRussa. He's like the exact opposite of Ozzie in a bad way - he overthinks EVERYTHING and tries to put his signature on every game.
  20. I went to the game last night and stayed for the whole thing. I would have hit my head against a wall repeatedly had they lost. Thank you Juan Pierre! And oh, Tyler Flowers looks like a pretty good hitter. Funny tidbit: I don't know if this was heard on the TV broadcast, but when Choo was up in extras, the entire crowd did the Ahhhhhhh-Choo thing. The best part is that it worked and Choo struck out.
  21. Z just needs to take the money he's made and get out of baseball. He's not even good anymore.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) I think it is mostly Soxtalk that doesn't like him. I didn't even post on this site much when the A-Gon stuff came up. I honestly don't care about that. I don't dislike Cowley because of that. I dislike him for some of the other stuff he's said or done (like basically calling Gavin Floyd brain-dead) and just being an ass in general.
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) Cowley got in Soxtalk's grill a little bit and since then no one likes him. Weird stuff. NOBODY likes Cowley. The guy's a douche. It's not just Soxtalk. Your posting style as of late (especially the Hollywood crap) is basically what Cowley does.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) I think it's an apt description of our tough-talking GM. "They're real Hollywood down there" - Joakim Noah when referring to Miami's Big 3 "Hollywood doesn't know what he's doing" - Marty34 when referring to White Sox GM Kenny Williams Doesn't have the same flare...
