  1. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 04:15 AM) haha relax about what? I didn't bring up sabermetrics, J4L did.. I was just pointing out that this is another stupid stat like the nonsense that you try to shove down everyone's throats every other post.. This is nothing like the stats that I use, but you wouldn't know anyways.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 08:26 AM) Actually, this has been a major criticism of PER. It's just a hodge podge of efficiency metrics that Hollinger thinks are important. However, other, more widely accepted efficiency metrics, also pin Paul as the better player. Efficiency isn't the be-all-end-all in basketball that it is in baseball, though. Someone needs to take the shots. PER actually awards players for inefficient shooting. Take Roy Hibbert for instance. He has a TS% of just over 50% on the year (bad. especially for a big man), yet his PER is 16 (above average), mostly because he averaged around 7 rebounds per 36. PER often rewards too much for rebounds and it can erase the detriment of inefficient offense. All PER is is a league average normalization of efficiency, the stat that adds everything good, subtracts everything bad. It wasn't really rocket science to begin with. Hibbert's Win Shares is a low 3.3, with only 0.3 coming from the offensive end. That's a much better picture of his overall performance. PER is a nice number to look at for a quick look, but there's other numbers that go deeper for better analysis. Luol Deng is even a better example of this. His PER this season is actually LOWER than it was last year. Anybody who's watched him play this year can tell you he's a far improved player on both ends of the floor. But once again, it's the rebounds. Deng had 1.7 less rebounds per 36 this year, leading to a 15.5 PER in comparison's to last year's 16.1. And that's with Deng being a better shooter and better defender this season.
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) qwerty that has nothing to do with THESE stats.. this is pointless crap that guys like chw42 beat off to Here's a question for you, do you beat off to your avatar? Just so you know, there is nothing sabermetric about whatever sqwert brought up, so you can take off those ignorance glasses and relax.
  4. Bulls gotta be sharp in game 3. Can't sleep walk through a whole half and shoot below 40% and expect to win on the road.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Didn't Duncan get thrown out of a game once for laughing? Duncan is like the dude you hang out with just to study with. And use to help you cheat on an exam. I hear he's pretty good at geometry, being such a good bank shooter and all...haha.
  6. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) True, but they shouldn't be. If an excessive reaction is a T for one player, it should be the same for another. Rasheed Wallace got a T for staring at a ref. lol it's just the way it is.
  7. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) Rose is lucky he didn't get T'd up. That's a technical every day of the week and twice on Sunday for Dwight. You don't see Rose that mad very often. Price clearly kicked his leg out and that's worth a foul call. T's are based on reputation. Rose might have had a couple of Ts in his career, Howard has, what, 50 in the past 3-4 years?
  8. What a cheap play by Price.
  9. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) Just turned on the game, so I haven't seen any of it up to this point, but it looks like Rose is still taking those threes... (Oh, and just to be completely clear, I agree entirely nite about CP3/Rose. And I said this way before CP3's game against the Lakers. nite is right.) 2/5 from 3 isn't a bad percentage. And I also find it hilarious how many times Stacy King thinks Rose will take over a game during a game. He says it at least 4-5 times, but of course, it only happens once or twice. lol
  10. Pacers are employing the same double team the Warriors played on Rose earlier in the year. He beat that scheme earlier on in the year. Somebody besides Rose has to step up and score some points.
  11. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) not sure why i should be surprised given the fact that he was excellent at every aspect of the game when he was on the floor, but I've been pleasantly surprised with Pippen as an analyst. He actually brings quite a bit to the table IMO He just doesn't talk much, lol.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Alright, 3 s***ty halves is enough. No more sleep walking, I don't need to see Rose bail us out of another close game. Just step up and kick ass in the 2nd half please. Rose needs to be more assertive.
  13. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) This is my hangup. The best player in the league has to be a difference maker on both sides of the court. I hope Rose gets there, but he just isn't. Rose has done just fine defensively. He's definitely improved under Thibs.
  14. That second foul on Rose looked like Joakim's foul. Not Derrick's.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 02:33 AM) Kalapse could one up this thread without even trying. All kalapse would have to do is go into detail about a recent s*** of his that he just got done examining... and that puppy would end up at least double the length of this one. Kalapse could convince some of you that the sky is purple, and that the grass is red, with zero questions asked. Except everybody would know Kalapse would be kidding. He's too well known.
  16. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) I doubt they'll complain about it but this is a direct quote from Daver: I wonder how the thoughts of others can be come the intellectual property of a forum database. WSI is so anal about rules that literally nobody on the internet follows today. It's like they're still in the mid 90s over there.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) Alright now that is just... awful wrong. Who else can create a thread like this and make it go 12 pages?
  18. That was a horrible finish by NY.
  19. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) I read that forum a ton for Bulls news, but they are so anal there. If you don't 1,000+ posts, anything you say will be flamed. The general board is even worse.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) I'm surprised that somebody like you that is obsessed with advanced metrics would dismiss any argument that a healthy Paul is better than Rose. lol. I never said I completely trusted basketball's advanced metrics. I know what they are, I look into them, but that doesn't mean they totally sway my opinion like sabermetrics do. I think I've seen enough of Rose to realize that he has the potential to be the best player in the game. He just hasn't fulfilled that quite yet. With his work ethic, it's more than possible. There's also the thing with shooting too many 3s and bad shot selection, both easy fixes. Paul hasn't shown to be this good since 08-09. He has to show me more in order for me to crown him again (and I agree that he was probably the best player in basketball when he was fully healthy). One playoff game doesn't really tell me he's back to that form.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) This game is exactly why Paul is a better player than Rose right now (which is not a shot at Rose, but Paul is that good). I wonder if you watched the Bulls game yesterday. I doubt the Lakers give Paul that much room again. The Lakers had a couple of possessions where Gasol got crossed up and was defending Paul 1 on 1. It's not that hard to shake a 7 footer when you have the quickness that Paul has.
  22. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) I....what? Has it been confirmed that Felix was kidding? If any of you have ever seen Felix's other posts, then yes, he was obviously kidding. Some of you are very gullible or just ignorant of the opinions of one of the best posters on this board (Felix).
  23. Atlanta's up 17 with 5 minutes in the third. Something tells me the Bulls are gonna have a easy road to the ECF. Atlanta's been the Bulls' whipping boy this year.
  24. The amount of Indiana fans thinking their team got screwed by officiating is staggering. They think Rose only got to the line 21 times because Stern had a fix on this game. Oh yeah, totally. It wasn't like he was literally clobbered by Jeff Foster at least 3 times.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) He wins games by himself when he has to. He's f***in absurd. On a much different note, I wanna smack Carlos Boozer upside the head sometimes. Excelling in high leverage situations, something that LeBron and Dwight Howard don't do. I think the fact that Rose had a 60% TS% on 0-9 shooting from 3s (two of them were lobs at the buzzer) speaks volumes to how good he was outside of those 3 point attempts.
