Now if you're factoring in defense, then Hamilton has the edge. But I seriously doubt defense plays a role in MVP voting. We can't even get the gold gloves right half the time. Of course you have to incorporate defense if you're talking about who deserves the award. The two are pretty much level on offense, even if you adjust to ballpark with RC+ (180 for Cabrera, 179 for Hamilton) and wRAA (50 for Hamilton, 51 for Cabrera). Sure, Cabrera gets intentionally walked and pitched around more than anybody else in the AL and that does hurt his stats like RC+ and wOBA since IBBs are not accounted for (which is why Cabrera's OPS+ does look better). Only in that respect does his numbers suffer.
