White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 06:41 AM) Some fan you are. You were saying before last night's game that we would lose and Freddy had no chance. Why bother watching and coming in here with all of your negativity?

Fuentes to Twins
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) I've always thought Fuentes throws like a girl. Am I the only one? Not at all. He does throw weird.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Do you honestly think the voters are going to say to themselves, "Well, it's really close between the two, but Josh has the higher WAR. So I'll vote for him." Don't get me wrong. I totally understand what you're saying. But sabermetrics aren't quite that mainstream yet. In this case, the voters don't need WAR. They can look at the normal offensive numbers are recognize that Cabrera and Hamilton are both hitting at a similar level. Then of course, Hamilton obviously has the better reputation as a defender. They can get it right without WAR.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) Everyone will agree on that. I just think there's zero way to say that AJ cheated Now that I think about it, I should reword my original post about that. A.J.'s pretty much known as somebody who will bend the rules or try go get around them. Maybe even "dirty" if you want to go that far. And all of that has to do with morality - is he doing the right thing by doing such things? You can also relate that to PEDs, as in, are these players doing the right thing by taking PEDs? Both have a moral aspect to it, yet Greg is fine with A.J., but not so much with the latter group.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Damn.. many saw it comming. I was shocked to hear it, but I wasn't surprised. Huge blow for the Nats and for baseball. I thought it was more the elbow than the forearm when I saw that pitch. As ptatc pointed out before, Strasburg's mechanics are much worse than Sales. I hope for his sake, he still regains that velocity back after Tommy John. Not EVERY pitcher does. Sale's mechanics are better. But I think for his sake, he should stay in the bullpen for now.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Honestly you really can't, since your the only one who thinks it is/was cheating. I personally don't think it is cheating, that's why I said you COULD argue either way. I've heard a million different view points on this topic, and everybody has a different perspective on what cheating is in baseball. It's a debatable topic. At the least, you can call the A.J. incident extremely controversial.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) I'd embrace it. From what I understand, our team was probably the cleanest World Series winner overall in that decade. I don't think Boston fans care less that their two most dangerous hitters were cheaters. I had a Yankees fan tell me that the 09 WS was tainted because A-Rod was on the team. I laugh about that all the time.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) So, you think AJ knew for sure that the ball was caught and still ran? How many times do we see that happen anyway? I think it's pretty often, a guy comes anywhere close to trapping it and the batter forces the guy to throw to 1b just on the off chance they throw it away. He could have. I'm not in his mind, but knowing A.J., it's not entirely impossible.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Take a look at the video again. He actually took a step or two toward the dugout, then realized Paul didn't tag him out (which usually all catchers do when a ball hits or comes close to hitting the dirt to avoid confusion) That is more equivalent to A.J.'s I.Q. (and Eddings f*** up) than it is cheating. Hell if Crede doesn't get that hit (and Ozuna doesn't steal that base) Angels fans would never bring it up. Like I said, you can argue both ways on this. What you just said can be interpreted as him coming up with some weird ass idea after he knew he was out.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) So I should burn my 05 gear of those two stiffs? I don't have their jerseys. I publicly will now express my disdain about them. If they cheated, they deserve a lot of scorn. I don't like them for cheating. Do I approve of them cheating? No. I never said we should give up the WS trophy if anybody cheated. I was kidding about giving up the World Series thing, that's why there's a "oh noes" behind that.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) I don't even have to get involved in this one. This was not a good example on the cheating topic. You are gonna get owned on this one.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Does your first line even deserve a comment? AJ cheated? Why shouldn't the first line deserve a comment? Those two got caught for steroids, just like Manny.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Cheating would be if AJ knocked the ball out of Paul's glove and then pretended he didn't. Or struck out and pretended he didn't...

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) No you can't. Well, you could say it but you would be absolutely wrong. There was no overwhelming evidence either way about that call. But you can definitely argue either way and still have a legit point about it. So no, you wouldn't be absolutely wrong. I was just making a point. Cheating in sports is everywhere. Rejecting somebody because they cheated one way or another while rooting for another person who cheated, or is cheating is contradictory.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Does your first line even deserve a comment? AJ cheated? We can be semi-objective when we look at the dropped third strike controversy can't we?

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Well you weren't specific. You said Hamilton "blows Cabrera out of the water." And I agree about the defensive aspect. I just don't think it plays much of a role. Barry Bonds didn't win 4 straight from '01 to '04 because of his defense. Ryan Howard didn't win in '06 because of his defense. Hell, even Frank didn't win two of them because of his defense. In those two cases, they beat out everybody else on offense. Well, maybe not in 06 for Howard since Pujols was better than him, but that was the case with Frank. In this case, Cabrera and Hamilton are virtually equal. Hamilton's been a hell of a lot more valuable than Cabrera. 1.5 WAR is quite a disparity.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) He does? Hamilton: .354/.406/.631/1.037. wOBA .444, OPS+ 172 Cabrera: .340/.434/.638/1.072. wOBA 441, OPS+ 184 Then you have to take into account that if you remove Cabrera from the Tigers' lineup you have an offense that would resemble that of the Mariners or A's. Take Hamilton away from the Rangers' lineup you still have Kinsler, Young, Guerrero, Cruz. Hamilton has been fantastic and is every bit deserving of the award. But it was until June 1st that he went nuts. Cabrera has been doing it from day one and has been just a tad better with less favorable circumstances. Now if you're factoring in defense, then Hamilton has the edge. But I seriously doubt defense plays a role in MVP voting. We can't even get the gold gloves right half the time. Of course you have to incorporate defense if you're talking about who deserves the award. The two are pretty much level on offense, even if you adjust to ballpark with RC+ (180 for Cabrera, 179 for Hamilton) and wRAA (50 for Hamilton, 51 for Cabrera). Sure, Cabrera gets intentionally walked and pitched around more than anybody else in the AL and that does hurt his stats like RC+ and wOBA since IBBs are not accounted for (which is why Cabrera's OPS+ does look better). Only in that respect does his numbers suffer.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) What soapbox? I'm stating my opinion that I don't want the cheater. You say you want him. You save your win at all costs soapbox for yourself and your family. Timo Perez cheated and so did Pablo Ozuna, should we get our 2005 WS trophy revoked? Oh noes! Hell, you can even say that A.J. cheated to help us win the World Series.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) What if he used his NTC second time around? Of course he can use it the first time around and won't get put on waivers again this season. Not sure about that actually.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Forgive my waiver incompetence, but if an NL team claimed Manny, the Dodgers have to deal with them only, right? Well, deal or no deal. Yup. And in this case, he can be put on waivers again, but he would have to get dealt if he was put on again.
