  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) I find that statement laughable. There are only so many people to choose from to make up a lineup on this offensively-challenged team (except on nights it hits four home runs in one inning). If he plays Jones, somebody b****es. He plays the other option Kotsay and somebody b****es. Or bats Kotsay too high. Not everybody can bat ninth, folks. I know ... I know ... Ozzie wanted this roster of players. On and on. People wanted Oz fired the night he sat both Rios and Paulie, even though we won the game and the next day a "rested" Rios and Paulie helped us win another game. We only won that game because Jake Peavy threw a shutout, lmao. If he hadn't, I don't know if we win that game. And the next day, anybody could have hit John Lannan, he's now in the minors. I also don't know about Rios, since he still went into a swoon after he got that rest.
  2. He did it twice with Gordon Beckham in one game.
  3. And about the lineup b****ing... There's always the issue of looking into the future. The pitching won't keep this up all year long, I hope they do, but it's most likely not going to happen. So when the pitching starts leveling out, you need a good lineup out there to maximize your offense. Ozzie fails to do that on a consistent basis. The 25-5 run is due to the pitching more than the offense. Now if this streak was totally due to the offense and Ozzie was running out his lineups out there while succeeding, once again, nobody will say a word. I don't hate the team, some of the people who complain about things don't hate the team. We're "negative" for a legitimate reason.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) I find it absurd that people were mocking his great catch and saying negative things about a guy absolutely on fire and a team on fire. People are still b****ing in every game thread about the lineup when the lineup is posted. It's a lineup that has helped the team to a 25-5 stretch. Folks, this is team is on the most impressive single stretch in team history. Quentin has had an absolutely incredible stretch and people are ragging his defense? WTF. I'm not saying negative posts aren't good. Today upon reading this thread, however, I wasn't in the mood for one with the team and the subject of the negativity SO f***ING HOT!!! To be honest with you, it gets a little tiring if all we talk about is how awesome Carlos Quentin is at hitting and forget any of his weaknesses. So if Quentin starts hitting like he did earlier in the year and the team starts sucking, only then we can b**** about Carlos' shortcomings? What kind of logic is that? Carlos Quentin can hit .500 for the rest of the year, if he still sucks on defense, then we should be able to talk about how he sucks on defense, because it has to do with the success of this team. If Quentin was playing gold glove defense out there instead of Jermaine Dye/Brad Hawpe defense, you wouldn't hear a word out of us about his defense. You act like as if we HATE these players and want to bash them for one reason or another. That's definitely not the case, we want to maximize their contributions to the team and we want to think about ways of how they can maximize their talents. In the case of Quentin, DHing might be a good idea given his injury history and bad defense.
  5. Only 5 more days! I got to find myself a stream of MLB Network...
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Apparently James Johnson has lost 25 pounds and looks noticeably slimmer, according to KC Johnson. Sam Smith wants him to play SG.
  7. Would anyone like Shaq instead of Miller?
  8. Jake Peavy is a normal hillbilly/redneck though. Oswalt is like that guy who hangs around his porch with a shotgun while drinking whiskey.
  9. I really wish that they would incorporate hit f/x and field f/x more quickly. Not only because they would be more accurate, but also because I wouldn't have to argue about defense with people like Chris Rongey on Facebook and Greg on here...
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Korver just had his press conference. He said he as in contact with Boozer previous to signing and that he has been texting Ronnie Brewer to come and play in Chicago. He jokingly said "Were trying to start the Chicago Jazz." If we do get Redick, the last 2 pieces I'd like to see the Bulls add are a backup PG (Livingston) and a defensive/athletic 2 guard (Brewer). PG - Rose/Livingston SG - Redick/Brewer SF - Deng/Korver/Johnson PF - Boozer/Gibson C - Noah/Asik We got our big 3 in Boozer/Korever/Brewer. YEAH!
  11. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) We all know jermaine dye was a good outfield, a plus outfielder. Clearly that makes quentin an amazing fielder, a ++ even. Greg has a thing for defending our right fielders' defense, even if they are bad.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) FYI, BoSox and Royals talking about a possible DeJesus deal. Lame...
  13. ^Oswalt's been pretty good this year.
  14. I'm pretty sure Quentin would be far more valuable as a DH than a right fielder. Quentin's current WAR: 0.2 Quentin's WAR as a DH with same numbers: 1.2 It's a one win difference. By him not DHing, it has cost the team a whole win share, or 10 runs created. If you can go get a David DeJesus to play right field, it would affect the DH position by inserting Quentin there, our right field defense, and a good top of the order bat.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) Take the average offensive and defensive player. Think how many runs more than the average offensive player Q has created overall this year, then think how many runs more than the average defensive player Q has allowed with his outfield play. If you add the numbers up, Q ends up a positive player for us, but not by nearly as much as apparently everybody seems to think. I don't take the -14 UZR that seriously, he's been bad out there, but I don't know if he's that bad. Horrendous would be a good word to describe his fielding this year, but I don't know if it's nearing -30 UZR/150 type of horrendous. BTW, before Sunday's game, Quentin was a negative value to the Sox as a whole.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Why is it embarrassing? The guy makes a great catch and I read this thread and have to read about what a hack he is. If you guys want to live in the negative, go for it. I can't for the life of me think of why anybody would feel the need to post negative s*** about Quentin's catch today. I'm not embarrassed by my posts. I guess we could play some great defensive right fielder out there who can't hit, then we can b**** about that player's hitting. It is not b****ing, it is constructive criticism based on numbers.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) OK, I give up before I even start this argument. Carlos Quentin is so bad it overshadows the incredible hot streak he is on. Now, please follow with 20 posts about how bad his defense is. He is soooooo bad. It's disgusting to see him penciled in the lineup and sickening to see him run out to right every inning. It ruins every game for me. I agree. The stats prove how bad he is defensively. His D overshadows everything about what he's done lately. OK, let's move on. Nobody said he should be out of the lineup. I love Carlos Quentin when he hits, but I would like for him to DH instead. BTW, remember when people said that Carlos is too much of a headcase to DH? Doesn't seem to be the case since he has 4 home runs DHing these past two games.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) That it's ridiculous to always post negative s*** about somebody. No, he is not horrid defensively. He is not a train wreck out there defensively. He's average to below average defensively, not horrible. It was a great f***ing catch and people are b****ing about it. Right, because everybody on the Sox is perfect. Do you work for White Sox PR or something?
  19. I ran both of these lineups through a lineup optimizer. Actual AL: 6.31 runs NL: 6.18 runs I then created my own lineups based on the entire roster (I did not replace the players fans voted in unless they were hurt). Theoretical AL: 6.71 runs NL: 6.32 runs Looks like Girardi could have done better. My theoretical linueps AL 1. Ichiro CF 2. Crawford LF 3. Hamilton RF 4. Cabrera 1B 5. Cano 2B 6. Guerrero DH 7. Longoria 3B 8. Mauer C 9. Jeter SS SP. Lee NL 1. Ramirez SS 2. Byrd CF 3. Pujols 1B 4. Votto DH 5. Wright 3B 6. Ethier RF 7. Braun LF 8. Prado 2B 9. Molina C SP. J. Johnson
  20. Heat also have Big Z now.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Doesn't Law also hate the Cardinals, and don't they run a similar philosophy? Also, for what its worth, if we built a decent farm, I'd love to see what Kenny could do with it. Kenny inherited the best farm system in baseball back in 2001. With it, he got Todd Ritchie, David Wells, Billy Koch, Bartolo Colon, Carl Everett, Roberto Alomar, Freddy Garcia, and Carl Everett again. There might be some more, but he didn't use it in the best of ways. Outside of Colon, Freddy, and the first year of Jurassic Carl, it was pretty much complete fail. The good thing is that none of the guys he traded turned out to be anything of importance. Really does tell you how hype of a farm system can turn into absolutely nothing.
  22. He'd be playing out of position then... Looks like Okur might be trade bait then.
  23. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) Dont the fans vote for the starters so I dont know why you are going off on that, can pick apart the lineup all you want but he had to start those players to best of my knowledge. IMO, Molina's the only one that really doesn't deserve to be there, the fans did an alright job this year. Somebody had to play for Heyward, Manuel put Hart in there instead of Byrd, who can actually play CF. Nobody in that outfield right now can play center.
  24. Haslem's not a terrible defensive player. They will have trouble in the playoffs due to lack of good depth, but the fact that people were questioning if they can win 50 games should be put to rest by now.
  25. Law comes from the school of Billy Beane, so you can bet that he will do it in the most conservative manner possible. He's the perfect GM of a small market club.
