  1. Make a good list, I'll make a montage of this if you all would like.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) I don't know why people don't like Stone - yeah he's pretty dry, but he really knows his s***. "Uninsightful" is about the most inaccurate word to describe him I can think of. I especially like it when he says something like "now would be a good time for (pitcher) to use his splitter" and 10 seconds later is a swinging strike 3 on a splitter. The only problem I have with Stoney is that his analysis of home runs are extremely obvious. Example, "Marte leaves a fastball on the inside half and Quentin crushes it." Steve, I see that it was a fastball and I see that it was on the inside half. And I definitely saw that Carlos crushed it. I do like it when he predicts pitches though. He predicted that changeup from Kazmir to Quentin the other night flawlessly.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) I am a little late to this party, but I don't know how anybody could ever determine Dwyane Wade is a good defender. He is to basketball defense what the guy who makes a bunch of diving catches but has no range is to baseball defense. He does a lot of stuff that looks spectacular, but overall he's not good at it. In other words, he is the Nate McLouth of basketball defense.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Does anyone know why Keith Law hates the Sox? Only Keith Law knows.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) People are speculating in Orlando that Otis Smith may still match the Redick offer. Q-Rich is getting the remainder of the MLE (the rest was given to Duhon) and he'll be starting at SF for us next season in place of Matt Barnes. That gives us 3 options at the wing spots now in Carter, Q-Rich and Pietrus, and that could still be 4 if Redick is kept. Nothing really surprises me with Otis these days, I thought there was no chance we matched Gortat's offer from Dallas last off-season and he did, so the same could still happen here. If we do that, then we'll be paying a LOT of tax this season, but we've got VC's expiring deal of about $16M to come off the books 1 season from now also. How much would they have to pay Redick if they matched?
  6. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) I assume that number for Boozer is heavily influenced by his rebounding. The Jazz defense was almost 6 points WORSE per 100 possessions with him on the floor. Probably and Boozer's previous defensive ratings were never this good, he got close a couple of times though. Boozer's not as bad as some people thing he is though.
  7. J.J. Redick was second in offensive rating last year at 123...holy crap.
  8. Thibs gets Boozer and Noah, both were leaders in defensive rating last year. Noah 9th, Boozer 16th.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 07:49 AM) 12 seasons, 6 playoffs with Cleveland. 3.5 seasons, 1 playoff with the Sox. Absolutely no way he doesn't wear an Indians hat But, but, the Indians fans BOO'd him!
  10. It seems like we get a new meme or awesome GIF from every world cup final game. In 06, it was Zidane's headbutt. This year, it's De Jong drop kicking Xabi Alonso. Awesome, just imagine a big hole behind Alonso and Leonidas' face on De Jong's body yelling, "THIS IS SPARTA!".
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Sure we're red hot but are we really better than any of the 6 above us in that list? I would have said Texas but with Lee they are pretty dangerous. I am damn sure that we are better than the Padres and Braves (I really don't have to explain why on this one).
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) IIRC JD used to routinely put up UZRs in the -20s. He's on pace for -30.
  13. White Sox are ranked 7th in MLB power rankings by ESPN (we were 16th last week). Looks like we're starting to get noticed a little bit. Although if this was done by almost any other team, they'd be first or second. http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings
  14. All Jones has to do is get on base at a nice rate and not look like utter junk at the plate.
  15. We will have $6 million left after Redick's deal. So Howard is a possibility. I'd rather go after Brad Miller though, we need another big man behind Taj. Who knows how good Asik will be.
  16. I'd rather have Morrow than Korver. But I'm somewhat fine with Redick now.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Felix has or had a quote from Bill Smith that said he'd prefer a pitcher with more wins and a high ERA than a pitcher with fewer wins and a low ERA. I get that he means he wants a pitcher with more wins, because it means the team is winning, but it's such a flawed quote that it's hilarious. I got those nuggets from an article Felix gave me. I don't know if it's luck or what, but the Twins won without any benefit of advanced player evaluation analysis. Weird...
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Looks like I'm wrong - is is a criminal out there in right field... It's actually -14.1 according to FanGraphs, I'm assuming that might be more updated, I don't know. All I know is that he's been terrible out there. We've replaced one Jermaine Dye with another. Alex and Juan are trying their hardest to make up for him right now. The nice play he made was an out of zone play though, so you have to give him credit for that, but the price of getting hurt was really not worth the risk.
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) I don't get the Jerry Remy love, annoying as hell. They're sucking off Boston, as usual. Don Orsillo is about as boring and emotionless as you can get.
  20. Good, that probably means no Josh Howard. We probably still need another big man, even if Omer Asik is coming here.
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) -MLB officials suspend Freddy Garcia, stating that he can't be as good as he's been therefore he must have a robotic arm -Brent Lillibridge demands that he be known as TBL on SoxTalk -Carlos Quentin's hair actually gets messed up after he hits a walk-off GS, rips off his helmet, and his teammates rub his head -Mark Buehrle is tossed from a game by Joe West when he strolls to the mound wearing a cowboy hat -Peavy, being the grinder that he is, learns how to pitch left-handed and starts a game in late September Jake Peavy, the second coming of Billy Wagner.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) Ugh, anyone criticizing Quentin for that catch obviously didn't appreciate how bad the sun was. The point is that one catch shouldn't mold your entire opinion or sway your opinion about somebody's playing abilities. I can probably pick out 20 plays that Carlos Quentin should have made, but didn't.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) If he wasn't so bad at defense, he wouldn't have had to make such a crazy catch. Yup, had he ran a good route to the ball, he wouldn't have missed three games as a result.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Did you forget that he ran like a wide receiver route to get to that ball? It was a great play, don't get me wrong, but that one play should not tell you that Carlos Quentin is good at fielding. He has the worst UZR as a right fielder in baseball right now. And his Plus/Minus is a -11. He has one of the worst zone ratings among all right fielders. None of this should be surprising, his defense has been declining ever since his foot problems.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) If they didn't think they would miss Gomez's defense in CF, then they weren't thinking. He doesn't do anything offensively, but he can cover as much ground in CF as anyone. The Twins are a very non-sabermetric organization. I'm surprised at their success w/o any sabermetric flavor. Their assistant GM doesn't know what BABIP and FIP are and thinks RBI is more important than anything.
