  1. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) So you really think he'd get hammered at The Cell? Okay, well just though I'd throw it out there. Now bringing ZAMBRANO here (also a rumor, but a sleight one), now THAT makes me cringe. Go look at his AL numbers and then look at the amount of fly balls he gives up. He'd make a serviceable fifth starter, but we'd have to give up something for him.
  2. Ted Lilly is one of those guys that tells you the disparity between the AL and NL. In all his seasons with the Cubs, he's given up nearly 50% fly balls, more than he was giving up in the AL. Yet, his HR/FB has DROPPED since moving to the NL. Call it the wind blowing in or whatever, but it just shows that the NL hitters suck.
  3. No, no, and more no. He's going to die in this park.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) lol @ people supporting Votto's b**** move. Unprofessional and stupid. Not a big deal, but, says a lot negative about the guy's idea of how the game works. Sad. To be fair, he can't be too happy about having some of the best numbers in the league and not even making the team in the first place. I have a feeling that he's a little bitter about the whole selection process (he did get tossed the day the roster were announced). I'm going to the game on Sunday, mostly to watch Halladay pitch. Should be fun.
  5. Johnny Danks Don't stop
  6. Very nice remix, I like what you did with the colors.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) There's my remix version. Just realized this will probably be taken down due to MLB being crazy. If it is, I'll reupload it to a different site. Edit: Just discovered there is a part with Hawk sounding like a chipmunk...gonna fix that. Double Edit: Nevermind, thats in the raw video. Haha, Hawk's chipmunk voice.
  8. lol @ people b****ing at Votto.
  9. QUOTE (Ranger @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) It's not always the wrong move. I know some people are married to the idea that you should never lay down a bunt EVER, but it's simply not that concrete. The statistic that suggests that bunting is always a bad idea is too broad and attempts to generalize a very specific strategic situation. Every potential bunting situation should be looked at on a case-by-case basis. There are occasions that the most important thing to do is get that tying/go-ahead run to second. And while Pierre does have a lot of stolen bases, he is not automatic. It is sometimes too big of a risk in close/late situations to have him get thrown out trying to steal. The only thing worse than runner at 2nd, one out is nobody on, one out. When one run matters, it isn't always a dumb idea to sac the man over...even if that guy is a stolen base threat. I have a lot of issues with bunting a speedster over to second base. If you want to bunt him to third, that's fine, you'll only increase your run expectancy that way. But when you bunt him to second, you lose run expectancy. Call it broad or what have you, but you never want to give up an out. If the Sox really need that one run, like they're down 1 and it's the 8th or 9th, I'm okay with bunting him over. The risk there of him getting caught stealing is far too large. However, if the Sox need an insurance run or you're at home and the game is tied, you need to take that risk sometimes. Ozzie always lets Pierre and Rios run in the middle of a game no matter what the situation is (including letting Pierre run with a 3-0 count the other day). Why not let them do the same in a tied game or a time where you need an insurance run? In those cases, the game is not exactly on the line. If they do get caught, you're most likely not going to lose a game because of it. But if they succeed, you really increase your chances of winning.
  10. Now that's a fast promotion...
  11. Surgery was successful. Very good news.

This does come with the risk of a $2 million price tag. If he continues to suck, well, that's $2 million gone. That's unless he clears waivers, gets released, and the Sox pick him up for the minimum.
  15. Ron Artest is hosting a Fcuk LeBron Party. http://www.sbnation.com/2010/7/14/1569901/...-hosting-a-fcuk What an awesome guy he is.
  16. If Cox hated Escobar that much, how much would he have hated Alexei?
  17. He's been absolutely terrible this year, almost worse than Randy Williams. He has more walks than strike outs, his fastball velocity is down 2 MPH, and yet he still intrigues me. Erick Threets is not the answer, he hasn't proven that he is the answer. Adding a veteran like Sherrill who has had success before wouldn't be a terrible idea. He's mainly struggled against righties this year, so having him as a LOOGY can't hurt. He's making $4.5 million and he will make around ~$2 million the rest of the way. He hits free agency next year. Nothing in his current numbers tells me that Sherrill's horrible numbers are due to something that's not his fault, but you know, Don Cooper can work some magic and we really aren't in a position to nitpick at LOOGYs. I'd be willing to to take a shot at him.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) At this rate, he's on pace for about 30 HR and has a .793 OPS (99 OPS+, Toronto not being a hitter's park), and his average season HR number is 16. His career high in HR is 23, so the odds of him suddenly developing 30 HR power right now are limited, at age 33. That said, he keeps this pace up for 2 years and the Braves will not only have a steal but there's a good chance he'd be a type A guy. If not, type B for sure. This kind of thing rarely happens. I think he started hitting for more power starting in Boston last year. Not completely sure on whether or not the power will last, but every single projection system alive has Escobar outperforming Gonzalez in the second half, it just seems to make sense that way. He might be catching a case of Raul Ibanez, who knows. But if he continues to hit like this, the Braves got a good deal, even if they let go of a guy who was a top 5 SS in baseball just one year ago.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) Seems he's the only one who is screaming like his head is cut off. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH My head!
  20. How dare you leave out Randy Williams and Scott Linebrink!
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Wait, so he is a robot? All great hitters are robots.
  22. Right now, Putz. Nobody's scored off him in 20 some innings.
  23. That ball was in the a left handed hitter's wheelhouse.
  24. I don't think it's nibbling. These hitters usually can't catch up to the fastball. He gets ahead by these guys either taking or fouling his fastball off. But then, he can't finish these guys off since his location isn't as good and they just keep fouling his pitches off by extending the at bat. For a guy who throws nothing but fastballs, that's not a good thing. The more they see of his fastball, the easier it is for them to pick one and hit it.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) You must be half Ukrainian and half bald eagle. I'm also very good at those Spot the Difference games.
