Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) Wow, I didn't realize Price's FIP/xFIP had shot up to 3.71 and 4.16. His FIP was always around that mark.

Negative LeBron James Story Pulled From ESPN Moments After Being Poste
You should listen to Dan Bernstein read this James story. It's pretty good. Listen to hour 2: http://wscr.cbslocal.com/2010/07/28/boers-...n-full-show-17/

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) It is a positive. There will always be people who argue anything you say. If he was 0-22 and you didn't recommended him . There would be those who say " Get him he's due. " Just like limited sample sizes with how you hit with the bases loaded or 2 outs RISP , you just feel better about it when it's really good as opposed to really bad. It's not a bad thing to be good against a certain team. But that shouldn't be a reason why you make a move.

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) He's never on base so he doesn't clog the bases. He also helps clear the bases of base cloggers by hitting into plenty of double plays. Don't give the anti-Thome people anything to use.

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) This seems like an entirely different situation. Thome was let go because Ozzie didn't want him clogging the bases the times he didn't strike out or homer. I think the poster is simply stating that Luke Scott mashing Twins' pitching can only be seen as a positive. In no way can it be a bad thing. Nobody advocates signing Scott purely based on this either. Mark Kotsay = slow, can't run, can't hit. So why does it even matter?

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Heard on 104.9 The Horn in Austin TX: Houston Chronicle writer Richard Justice said that the best bet for Lance is to be traded to the Rangers to fill in the 1b hole now that Justin Smoak was traded earlier this month. You can also read Justice' s blog @ http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/ It makes sense. The Rangers have a hole in 1b and if Lance is traded to the Rangers, it would keep him in Texas which he was born in New Braunfels (Between Austin and San Antonio), went to Rice U in Houston and was drafted by the hometown 'Stros. So what was the point of getting Cantu then...?

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Other than Price, the Rays rotation has come back to earth after their ridiculous run through May. They're still pretty damn good, though. David Price is no FIP master either. The Rays have to have one of the most overachieving rotations this year.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Lol thanks. Yeah, if I were the Rays I'd be giving the Nationals a hard sell on Jeff Niemann about how much of a winner he is. Wow, when did Niemann's FIP climb two runs?

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) If the Rays are in the derby then it's curtains for us. But having a strong farm doesn't matter. We won a title in 2005. Hellickson got pulled from his start today. I would laugh my ass off if Dunn gets traded for Hellickson.

Angels Open to Trades
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Didn't look at the number but Abreu just might be Carlos Quentin BAD defensively, he's like Dye out there. Not even close. I said it before, having Abreu out there instead of Quentin should result in a 1 win share difference. Quentin's badness in RF is indescribable.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Like the Blum move? Blum didn't take playing time away from a decent player. He was a utility guy.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Classic case of making a move just to make a move. The sad part is that you know Tejada will take time away from Jerry Hairston, who has a .291 wOBA while playing some great defense (7.1 UZR). All of this results in a 1.7 WAR. Tejada has a .296 wOBA, plays bad defense at 3B, and has a negative WAR. You see who this makes zero sense, none? If I'm a Padres fan, I would be really mad.

Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Check his sb %age. 76/96, I know.
-
Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
What was the point of getting Tejada for the Padres? He can't play SS anymore, his declining power is going to decline even more in San Diego. I don't get it.
-
Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
Gose stole 76 bases last year with a .323 OBP and a ground ball% around 60%. Remind you of somebody on the White Sox? Hint, his initials are JP.
-
Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
All I know is that whoever ends up with Tejada is going to be disappointed.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Ian Kinsler to the DL. I really like Kinsler, but he's hurt way too much.
-
Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Yeah, but tossing in $11 million to do it...uck. Definitely wasn't a smart move, but they might have just picked up a potential impact bat along with a good middle of the rotation starter that are under control for at least 4 more years.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
If we get Berkman, Kotsay really shouldn't be on this team. Lillibridge has way more versatility and Berkman takes over everything that Kotsay was doing (playing 1B and DHing on most nights).
-
Bobby Jenks
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Hopefully last night the Phillies were watching and are now committed to trading us Jayson Werth straight up for Bobby Jenks! We can dream right? Werth would be the perfect fit for this team. It'd mean a full time DH in Quentin with a plus outfielder in right with a great bat. Who also hits in the postseason.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Not sure that Morel makes sense for the Houston with Wallace and Johnson manning the CI positions unless they see him as a fit at 2B. Houston needs pitching so maybe a package of Santeliz and Holmberg for Berkman and $2M to pay his buy-out at the end of the season. We're not getting any money in a deal for Berkman if that's all we're going to offer.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) He basically asked the 'Stros to trade him earlier this season. But does he want to play here? I heard he'd only accept a trade to the Rangers earlier in the year.
-
Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Assuming that Kotsay actually lost his at bats. Even Ozzie knows that Berkman >>>>>>>> Kotsay. Plus, Berkman does everything Kotsay does, but better. Lance Berkman's actually pretty good over at 1B.
-
Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
Berkman has a no trade clause. Would he WANT to play here?
-
Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
In the end, I think the Astros did alright in the Oswalt deal. Wallace + Happ isn't half bad.
