Have the White Sox ever had a better defense?
QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Epic fail. lol... Jones' UZR in right this year: -0.7 (UZR/.150 of -9) Jones' Plus/Minus in right this year: +2 (more updated) Dye's UZR in 2005: -4 (UZR/150 of -4.7) Dye's Plus/Minus in 2005: +2. Andruw's no longer the same guy who played some of the best defense the game has ever seen. He's still decent out there, but some of you are overrating him.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Because you realize its complete bulls***? Because I know you'll try to defend Jenks like there is no tomorrow and engaging in a conversation with you about him isn't going to do anybody any good.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) If we lose by a couple games at the end of the year, I'll be much more pissed at the 100 losses to Cleveland/KC that we had this year than the 2 horrible ones this week. Seattle's on track to lose close to 100 games this year.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) Nope, can't do that BS. You can blame so many losses on "what if..." plays. What if PK or Rios drives in the runner on 3rd the other night? What if Raaaaaaaandy doesn't give up those runs in the 7th when we made that huge comeback a few weeks ago. What if SOMEONE gets a hit off Marmol with the bases loaded. All bulls*** I'm not even going to bother.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) So there won't be any complaining if we lose 5 straight to Cleveland? Depends on why we lost. But I definitely wouldn't be happy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Its also fair to say that that Tigers should be two games better if they don't blow extra innings games to a last place team. This is just going to go around in circles, but the White Sox had much higher win expectancies in the games Jenks blew than the losses the Tigers had against the Indians, I'm pretty sure of that. The Sox had a 82% chance of winning yesterday's game when Jenks came in. They had a 95% chance to win on Sunday going into the bottom of the 9th. Our losses hurt a lot more because they were very, very probable wins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) That is a lame excuse to complain about things. If the Tigers had taken care of their business we wouldn't even be in first place. You can complain about Jenks all you want, but you are wasting your time engaging in the fantasy "what if"'s. Is it not fair to say that Jenks has been a reason this team is 52-42 right now instead of 54-40? So if that's the case, this team should be two games better right now.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Baseball is not a one-man game. The offense got two hits off a good pitcher. Then the Sox scored a run and a Seattle player executed a helluva bunt hit. After that Jenks got beat. I still say it's not a one-man game. The Sox bats sucked, Bobby sucked. We still won two of three which ain't bad. Instead of a pick to click are we going to start after every game picking "Goat of the Loss?" We should. Jenks' WPA yesterday: -.82 Jenks' WPA on Sunday: -.625 He sure made it a one man game.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) If you want to get into the hypothetical thing of "If only," it would be just as easy to say "If only the Tigers hadn't have gotten swept by the Indians"... The Tigers didn't blow two saves in the past week in winnable games. What they do is their business, you have to take care of your own. And Jenks hasn't helped our cause in that department.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Gee it might have helped had the mighty bats scored a couple runs. They scored 6 runs in the Twins game Jenks blew. You can't really blame the offense for that game, that was all Bobby Jenks. And yesterday, they played against one of the best pitchers in baseball. You can blame the offense all you want, but the fact is that they scored runs and put the Sox in a position to win. Jenks then promptly blew the game.

Have the White Sox ever had a better defense?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) THEN can we can respectively disagree on CF and RF. And I think Konerko's better now than he was before, as well. We just saw Andruw Jones save the game...a play Quentin or Dye never would have made. The Andruw now is probably a little bit better than J.D. back in 05. And as good as Rios is, he's not 2005 Aaron Rowand. I'm not basing this off some blinded love for Aaron either. UZR proves this. Plus/Minus proves this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) With the way the Tigers have been blowing games in the last week, that is hardly a fair comparison. So because the Tigers have played like crap, the White Sox should be blowing games too? I'm not getting what you're trying to say here.

FIP didn't lie about Ubaldo (when he was still dealing, his FIP was around 2.9), his ERA continues to rise.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) According to greg, the family emergency was just too big a obstacle for Bobby to overcome. He's scarred for life now. I think that might be a possible factor in why he's so bad right now. But not because he's scared or anything. He's just not sharp. Being away too long might have messed with his mechanics.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) How do posts like this and the response to it "add to the discussion" on here. People who say I'm killing the discussion need to look around. It's hard to have a discussion with you because all you do is b**** about how we complain about Jenks. HOW THE f*** CAN WE NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT HIM? I'm still pissed that we're only 2 games up instead of 4 because Jenks forgot how to pitch. HE'S GOTTEN ONE f***ING OUT IN HIS PAST TWO SAVE OPPORTUNITIES. ONE f***ING OUT. And that out wasn't even a real out, Ichiro sacrificed himself. You tell me how you have any kind of leverage to blame us for b****ing about him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Tigers got this one. Friday--Marcum-Porcello Saturday--Cecil-Bonderman Sunday--Litsch-Galarraga Twins-Orioles Thursday--Pavano-Millwood Friday--Duensing-Guthrie Saturday-- Baker-Matusz Sunday--Slowey-Arrieta I think the O's can take at least 1. I like that Matusz-Baker matchup.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) If somebody says something personal or ridiculous about Jenks, I'm going to respond. My responses have been in response to others' ridiculous comments. It's ridiculous to read some of the s*** on here about pulling the hairs out on his goatee and not respond. I get why people hate Jenks. Despite blowing two of three saves I still think he has had a good season. In fact, I'd give him a B to B- right now. If you want to flag him, go right ahead. You'll get your wish. Let's just hope Putz is as automatic as the Sox want him to be. Greg, you kill any good White Sox discussion this board has anymore. Good discussion is not simply bashing the goat of the day after every loss. It's official, you have to be his dad.

Verlander with another 120 pitch game. I wonder how his arm is still intact.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) They should just release him, get rid of the bum. Then if Putz blows a couple save opportunities, find a way to blame Jenks as well. I had to laugh at this line: "When he blows a save, he's a fat ass with bad facial hair." I love the anonymity of the internet. Tell that to his face. He'd kick your ass. You're not defending Bobby Jenks by mocking other people. You're just pissing them off.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Before the All-Star break the Orioles got swept in Detroit, then proceeded to head to Texas and win 4 straight vs. the Rangers. Maybe they can win a game or two vs. the Twinkies???? then again, maybe not. I just hope they don't get swept.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) I'm not much of a stathead, but I've been a baseball fan a long time and I honestly don't know what any of that means. Can someone please explain? Those are pitch values. Ever since the introduction of pitch f/x, which is a system that keeps track of every pitch thrown along with their velocity, location, and trajectory, people have been keeping track of what pitches are getting hit for what. So if you have a pitch value of 0 for a certain pitch, that means you are performing very average with it. If it's negative, that means it is a below average pitch and hitters are hitting it hard for base hits, home runs, whatever. If it's positive, it means it is effective and it's getting guys out. He's saying that Jenks' pitches have been getting hit harder these past few years and they are not as effective.

Brennan Boesch is starting to regress. His BABIP has dipped almost 40 points since the last time I checked on him. Average is down 25 points during that timespan. There's the reason why I think the Tigers will have a lot of issues from here on out.
