  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Seriously, people are talking about trading for a starting pitcher and aren't thinking that's overkill? Some idiots are talking about trading Carlos Zambrano to the White Sox. Where the hell would he ever fit in?
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) LaRoche is a very nice upgrade at the DH spot for the sox, or he could be at 1B and Paulie will DH, because he is very good with the glove too. he basically put up clean up spot type of production for the pirates and the diamondbacks the last few seasons, 25HR and 85 RBIs for those teams is pretty impressive, and by moving to the hitter friendly US Cellular, he could hit over 30HR and drive in 90-95 per season while batting .270, and plus, he only makes 4.5 mil, so he's definitely worth trading for. As for Haren, thanks but no thanks. His ERA is ballooned at 4.65 so far this season, and over the last 3-4 years, he's been known for pitching great in the first half and falling apart in the second, if we do acquire him midseason, good luck with that. And we don't want to guess how much worse an NL west pitcher would fare after trading to the Cell He's the almost the same exact pitcher he was last year. That 4.65 ERA is due to a .342 BABIP.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) That's illegal now. He must have been on something that's not illegal then.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Mariano Rivera has allowed 17 H+BB in 27.1 IP this season (0.622 WHIP) oddly enough that is not the best in baseball and by a pretty wide margin. Luke Gregerson of the Padres has allowed 20 H+BB in 38.1 IP (0.522 WHIP). The all time record for a reliever in a 70+ IP season is Dennis Eckersley with a 0.614 in 1990. I think Gregorson was a throw-in back in some 2008 trade. Amazing.
  5. England's defense was even worse the U.S.'s yesterday. They had about two long lobs go for goals because there was nobody back there.
  6. I really want Putz to close. He's got the velocity back and he's done it before. Thornton looked like he was on speed out there yesterday.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) Is this a WGN game? Thanx. You get the Cubs announcers though.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Sox dont have unlimited money and with the additions of Peavy and Rios they were strapped for cash so couldnt add a bat. Unfortunately attendance has seemed to be bad, not really helping to add that bat. Now they have to be patient and see if fans show up. The season was never over in June, it was like a football team who was 3-5 saying that theyd never make the playoffs. It just was way to early to be giving up on a team that had one of the most talented rotations on paper. But its always easy for people to play both sides of the fence. The slow start and lack of fan support is really going to limit KW's ability to be aggressive this year. Im not blaming people for not showing up, but when you are at half capacity and a pretty high payroll, something has to give. The farther the season progresses, the more the contract is prorated. Laroche will be about $1mil cheaper on July 31. I just think that Laroche is going to cost significantly more than what people are expecting. You're not going to give up Hudson or Flowers for him and Arizona isn't going to realistically ask for those two. Danks2 would be the most I'd give up for him. If Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, and some throw-ins can get you Jake Peavy, don't you think you can get Adam LaRoche for a B prospect and some throw-ins?
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) Shin Soo-Choo (Would the tribe deal within the division?), would be phenomenal, it would take at least Hudson to get him though and that's if they would even trade within the division He's up for arbitration for the next 3 years. So it would take a lot. Although rumor has it, he might have to go back to Korea for military service unless Korea wins the WBC or something.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) Kalapse probably needs to get that cup a place of honor in the banner. Quentin's no longer hitting like crap, so yes he should.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) That's funny they posed with the Cup tonight with a game left in the series. What did the above quote mean? I am slow and can't understand the meaning. Great win. Freddy ... nice job again. Only four hits and we win. That's always nice. Good bullpen work again. Great bullpen work again actually. Still can't get over winning with four hits. So nice. I didn't get the game here in KC. Sucked. Paulie is so clutch it's scary. Great year and career. They won the series, so they get the cup. They could have celebrated yesterday had they swept the Cubs in Wrigley and won yesterday.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Really so when the Sox were 9 games under .500 the board was saying the Sox should trade spects to add a veteran bat? All I ever read was about trading AJ, Paulie, etc. And obviously none of these bats are coming cheap, you are going to be giving up a potentially important piece of the future of the Sox. I guess Id rather wait to make the right decision, than all of a sudden have a bare farm system, a veteran getting paid money and a team under 500. Maybe Im wrong, but I seem to pretty clearly remember everyone saying that this team was dead, and this was in June. We've had people talk about getting a bat all off-season. Of course, when the team is sucking, you talk about selling. It's human nature. I wanted A.J. gone from this team so we can get some value in return and start playing Flowers. At that point in the season, our season was pretty much dead. Can you really blame anyone for thinking like that?
  13. Screw the Stanley Cup.
  14. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) I would love if the Twins had a YES Network. They tried but failed They do have a pretty sweet radio deal. They get paid $1m by the flagship station, and the Twins sell commercials and get to keep the money So the station virtually makes no money from it? What a rip off... Even if that does gain you listeners, that seems a bit, um what's the word, cheap I guess?
  15. I'm sure he's looking. I just don't want him to go for somebody like Fielder and overpay like mad.
  16. Danks = NL-tamer Also a Cubs-tamer.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) So who is out of the race that has players worth adding? Arizona - LaRoche Kansas City - DeJesus Baltimore - Scott Houston - Berkman
  18. Throughout the game today, I wasn't really worried about losing the game. Well, maybe I sorta was, but I had the thought in the back of my mind that they would come out on top somehow. I guess winning 10 in a row will do that to you. When Cashner threw the first 98 MPH fastball to Konerko, I thought Paulie was going to clobber that thing. Soon enough, he did hit one. Don't throw fastballs to Konerko, he's been the best fastball hitter in all of baseball this year.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) Yeah I definitely think that the White Sox should start tinkering with their team because theyve been really doing poorly lately. I still think wait and see is the most prudent course. Mark Kotsay isn't going to magically become a .300 hitter. You have no other viable replacements as a DH, unless Viciedo finds his groove, which is a possibility, but a slim one at that. So you NEED to go get at least a bat that is worthy of being a starting player, ie Adam LaRoche.
  20. I am tired of looking at Kotsay's .210 batting average as a freaking DH.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) When the Sox were 24-33, they had 30 games until the All-Star break, and you would have loved it if they went 20-10, to get to 44-43 at the break. Now they have 14 games until the break, and they BETTER NOT go 5-9 until the break to be 44-43. I'm greedy. Let's go 11-3 and have 50 wins and be in first place at the break. They better go at least 9-5. These next 4 games are all winnable.
  22. Was it over when the Astros were 15-30? I remember saying that in one of those "I give up" threads. I then went on to say that it was pretty much over. Man I wish I took that last line back, I'd be looking that much smarter.
  23. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) he also had no strikeouts, he's definitely not the same pitcher as he was prior to having fluid drained from his elbow He's still throwing heat up there. But yeah, it seems like the location just isn't as good.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) If I turn out to be wrong I'll gladly apologize (not that it would mean anything). He's going to get hot sometime, but there's only 3 weeks until the ASG and only two weeks until they reveal the rosters. I highly doubt that his future hot streak will get him into a respectable batting average for the average Joe to actually accept him as an all-star.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) You realize Girardi is the AL manager? Yes, but even he has to save his reputation a little bit. You don't take a guy hitting .230 to the ASG.
