Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) Whats the other reason of his improvement then? He learned a new pitch to add to his other 15? He has a 4.52 ERA in the AL, and I fully expect him to be around that for the Yanks. His GB/FB is .70 for those who wanted to know, which is below league avg. I like taking a look at Buehrle's stats compared to Javy to really see what kind of a pitcher he is. Mark is better in everything but K's, and that says alot. I think mental toughness might be one Buehrle has a huge advantage in.

BA goes to the BIG TIME!!!
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) So the Royals are paying Anderson 200k more than we are paying Andruw Jones? Now this is funny.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) As our 5th starter, hell yes I'd want him back, just not at 10 million. Exactly, I wouldn't pay my 4th or 5th starters $11.5 million combined, let alone for one of them.

Per TSN White Sox have #3 rotation in MLB
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) So, are we #2 now that Vazquez is in NY? Probably not since NYY is not part of the top 3 now.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Robbery. The Yankees gave up nothing but spare parts. The Braves already have McLouth, Schafer, Diaz, and Heyward (soon), who are all better than Melky, who is about as average as they come. Javy was one of the top pitchers in the NL last year. It's almost as if one of the leaders in IP starts to tire out towards the end of the season. Plus, his career FIP of 3.93 vs career ERA indicates that he's been the victim of some bad defense. Especially true when he had players like cement shoes Dye behind him. The Dye part I will agree with, but you also have to keep in mind that he had Crede behind him for two seasons, as well as Uribe at SS. During his tenure here, the left side of the IF was pretty good. The right side wasn't below average either. He did have Mackowiak and Dye in the OF in 06, as well as Pods. Being the neutral pitcher that he is, I think the good balances out the bad for the defense. Javy's usually bad during two parts of a season. The middle and the end. If he's bad during the middle of it, does that also mean that he's getting tired? Plus, whenever he's not on a contending team, Javy does just fine in September and October. In fact, his overall ERA in that month is like 3.71 overall while his 3 seasons on AL contenders ended up with him having a 5.47 ERA.

Adam Laroche anyone?
He wants a lot of money.

Best of the Decade in Chicago Sports
Something the Sox have done is winning or in second in every one of those polls.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Maybe being the #4 starter behind three other guys making big money will help him out?? Then again, New York is much further away from Puerto Rico than Atlanta, and that seems to be the thing he cares about the most. lol He was the 5th starter here in 06 and the 4th starter in 08. I don't know man, it hasn't helped in the past.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Javy is far from great and Melky is not a nothing player. It was pretty much a contract swap.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) he's probably learned a lot since his last NY encounter. Plus it's a chance to do something about his reputation for lack of cajones. You never gain cajones, my friend. The only way he might be able to gain them is if he got testicular cancer. Even then, that's more of a bad thing than a good thing.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) I wonder if Javy will bust out the "all I want to do is be a good father, pitching doesn't matter" quote again in NY? Wasn't it something like, "at least I have my family and I can go back to Puerto Rico."?

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) this would be a great move for the yankees....cabrera is useless now that they have granderson, and vazquez is at worst a slightly above average league pitcher his shortcomings in crunch time have been greatly exaggerated on this site since 2006.....he had a brutal final 3 starts in 2008, but 8 of his 9 starts before that were QS (and you can't tell me games in august and september don't matter), and the 1 that wasn't was 7 IP 4 ER.... When games "mattered" in 2006, he put up a 3.41 ERA in August, and a 3.82 ERA in September (with 4 out of 5 september starts having 10+ K's) Then last year he brought his team back into legitimacy in the NL east and wild card with a year that was so underappreciated around baseball...he was probably a top 3 or 5 starter in the NL last year ..... a 1.03 WHIP and 238 Ks His overall numbers in September/October on winning AL teams 2004 w/Yankees 6 GS, 1-2, 34.1 IP, 6.29 ERA, 37 H, 24 ER, 29 K, 16 BB 2006 w/White Sox 6 GS, 0-4, 40 IP, 4.28 ERA, 33 H, 19 ER, 57 K, 10 BB 2008 w/White Sox 6 GS, 2-4, 31.2 IP, 6.25 ERA, 31 H, 22 ER, 30 K, 13 BB Total: 18 GS, 3-10, 107 IP, 5.47 ERA, 101 H, 116 K, 39 BB, 1.31 WHIP You were saying?

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
Have they not learned? He's still the same damn pitcher. If you told me we could have Javy back, I wouldn't want him back. Stupid move.

Top 10 Sox Moments of the Decade
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Whole-heartedly endorse this list. One game that's a shame to have a cloud over it for losing, was when Iguchi went nuts with a 3R homer and then a granny to tie it up vs. the 'stros?, a game we ultimately lost. Also C-Lee walking-off the cubs with a granny. Or A.J.'s three run shot off the Dumpster in 06?

The Alex Rios Mystery
I think our OF defense cost us around 30-35 runs according to UZR. Dye was like a -20, Quentin was a -5, and Pods was like a -2 or 3. Anderson was positive, as was Wise. Kotsay was slightly negative. So yeah, around a -30 UZR in the outfield truly sucks.

Danny Richar
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) I remember trying to convince you all this guy was a huge pile of s***! Might not be anything special, but from the looks of it, he sure as hell hasn't done anything to make him a pile of s***.

Darren Oliver?
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) I still cannot believe Oliver is even relevant. He's terrible. He was actually pretty good last year. He's just old.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) And every year they've had it other than 2K5. They simply don't do it right. I'd rather have them do it instead of Kush Games. 2K7 was a decent game, but I'd rather have the developers who made 2K5 have a hand in making the game.

PK's slam should be higher. Buehrle's perfect game might be too high. And what's 4 homers against Randy Johnson doing up there?

Your 2000 Chicago White Sox
This was the team that got me interested in baseball. Good times, good times. And 03 hurt even more since the Cubs got to the NLCS.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Bruce Levine thinks Pods will be a good Cf for the cub.........do the cubs play in the MLB or some fictitious land Pods and the ivy filled brick wall just don't match.

Sox claim Freddy Dolsi
If Dolsi stops walking people, he can become a decent reliever.
