Oh great we're getting Kendall Walkman today.

Umpire is squeezing Giolito. Baker got a cutter call off the plate. Giolito not getting the same kind of leeway.

Yoan hit 2 singles and thought he was hot shit again.

Yeah the struggles with guys on 3rd and less than 2 outs aren't new. It's been a theme since the ASB last year. Before the ASB they were very good at cashing those runs in. Afterwards, they got them in like 20% of the time. Grandal and Robert killing the ball in the 2nd half hid a lot of those issues. But now that nobody in the lineup is really carrying the team, the struggles with guys on 3rd and less than 2 outs are becoming way more evident.

It's all mental at this point. They'll hit fine until they get a guy to third and then all of a sudden they just forget what plate discipline and working the count is.

lol that's what Giolito starts have reminded me of recently. Even when he has starts where he's good, he'll usually have one really bad inning in there.

It's all in their heads at this point.

Are they gonna move Henderson to third?

I doubt Mateo is in the O's longterm plans. He's not gonna be their starting SS when they're actually trying to win.

Yoan missed a real hittable pitch there. He and Jose have fouled back 2 absolute meatball pitches to crush.

Mateo thought he was Derek Jeter

What's weird is that he was super patient against Bautista yesterday. He got his best pitch to hit on the first one and couldn't do anything with it.

Jose chokes again with RISP. Abreu is the worst clutch player on the team this year by FanGraphs' clutch measure. Which means he performs way better in average leverage situations compared to high leverage situations. Harrison and Anderson are slightly better than him. If you've watched the team this year, those numbers make a lot of sense.

There's 1 out.

That pitch was asking to be hit 450 feet.

Seems like it's impossible for this team to score from 2nd.

We'll probably be 5 games out by the end of the night. Season is pretty much over.

Menechino is movable
Those Marlins teams were usually god awful on offense but they were also consistently last in the league in home runs. The only year where they weren't in the bottom 3rd in homers was when Stanton hit 59 homers in 2017. Even with Stanton hitting almost 60 homers they were still 9th in the NL in homers that year at 194. That was also when MLB started juicing the baseball. But you know what Frank's teams were usually top 5 in? Batting average. During his 6 year tenure with the Marlins they were top 5 in BA 4 times. They were top 5 in runs scored just once and that was the season Stanton hit 59 homers.

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
I mean, they share a Spring Training complex. It can't be that hard to do some baseball espionage.

It's just wild that Thompson's actually hitting this well. Wasn't he with the Tigers to start the year? How the hell do the Dodgers fix broken players in such a short amount of time?

White Sox vs. Orioles 8/23 6:05 CDT (Cease vs. Voth)
As much as I like blaming the new dimensions of the stadium, those 2 balls going as homers still only gets us to 4 runs. And we still lose the game.

One day, Menechino will perfect his style of hitting so well that he'll have hitters hit line drives singles all the way through the wall. Resulting in home runs.

I actually found myself not bothering to check the score tonight until an hour ago. Sometimes life is just better when you live in ignorance.

Just because the wall is at 398 feet doesn't mean the ball can clear the wall if it's hit at 398. Usually you need to hit it at least 7-8 feet further than that to clear the wall. That's unless you had a super high launch angle and the ball drops perfectly over the 398 mark.

On most nights, it's not even hitting a bunch of singles that's the problem, they just don't hit anymore singles once they get a guy on third base.
