  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Lillibridge laid down a perfect bunt for a base-hit. And then brain-cramped his way into getting thrown out at first on a 7-3 double play. Sounded like a hit and run gone wrong, the announcers seemed pretty damn impressed with that guy's throw.
  2. Kroeger was a big time prospect with the Diamondbacks, but they were so loaded in the OF (a certain Quentin was ahead of him) that he never really got a shot. He has had some pretty bad K/BB ratios, but was more than solid last year in the minors.
  3. All along the watchtower, Hendrix version.
  4. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:05 AM) glad i renewed my mlb.tv package amen to that. best 80$ i ever spent.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I don't think the Rangers gave up on Danks. Jon Daniels said that they saw McCarthy as a major league starter on the day the trade was made, whereas he say Danks being 2-3 years away.
  6. Danks year was completely solid and fluke free, there are pretty much no signs that he should regress. If anything, we should be expecting more out of him in 09.
  7. Chipper Jones is 6'4/210 and very solid defensively, Troy Glaus is 6'4/240 and just had a good year defensively and Adrian Beltre is 6'0/230 and is regarded as one of the best defensive 3b in the game, it's not about your size.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Hopefully, he's not the Yankees' 1B by then. not enough steroids in him.
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) you don't have to completely transform your body in order to have done roids...clemens was always really thick and he had a solid base to build on when he was a rookie...also you have to remember guys like brian roberts, alex sanchez, derrick turnbow etc have all been juicers...you dont have to add significant bulk to have juiced not to mention jim f***ing parque.
  10. Hopefully both him and Fields will rake in ST, and we'll be able to trade Josh for something.
  11. I would expect him to move to LF before 1B, since JD is leaving after this season.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) You're right. I agree thats why I threw in gap power too. Nothings wrong with not hitting HR's as long as you hit doubles and triples once in a while. Jerry Owens doesn't have gap power. He has grounder to bloop power.
  13. Danks doesn't need to be doing anything other than keeping his ass healthy and ready for the season, I could care less about the other guys going.
  14. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 12:10 AM) I smell 4th place Because Mark DeRosa and Mike Jacobs are really going to turn their teams around.
  15. While that is true, you have to take into account that BA had 181 AB's in sporadic playing time, he had no chance to get into an offensive groove, he didn't have a chance to get the hot streaks & slumps that a full time player gets, I'd rather give BA a chance to have 60+ XBH and risk him hitting .200 with his defense than allow Jerry Owens to hit .260/.320/.321 over a full season with s***ty defense and one of the more overrated stats in baseball, stolen bases.
  16. 2008 Brian Anderson: 21 XBH in 181 AB (as a 4th outfielder) 2007 Jerry Owens: 13 XBH in 356 AB (as a full time player) 550 AB Brian Anderson: 64 XBH (24 HR, 40 doubles) 550 AB Jerry Owens: 20 XBH I'd rather have Brian Anderson hitting .235 w/ 24 home runs and 40 doubles while playing GG defense in CF (which is probably the most important defensive position right now, seeing as the CF'er will be flanked by Dye and Quentin), than having Jerry Owens' pansy ass hitting .260 with garbage D and some stolen bases.
  17. Anything that values a pitcher by their win total is terribly flawed. If the Padres are absolutely terrible this year and Jake Peavy only wins 8 games, does that make Javier Vazquez a better pitcher/worth more than him?
  18. "Why would they do so, if they could go out and sign Bob Abreu for 2 years and $20 million?" According to Walt Jocketty, Abreu is still asking for something like 4/48. Also, Dye hit 36 HR last year, 24 of which were solo shots. His RBI totals for his HR totals are mediocre at best, and he's below average w/ RISP. He plays average at best defense in right, and we already have three 30 HR guys in Thome, Quentin & Konerko, Alexei and Fields are both guys who could get right up around 30 as well, so we're covered in the power department. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think I'd feel a bit better about having Chone Figgins lead off than Jerry Owens. Playing Figgins in LF would allow us to have Brian Anderson in CF, I'd feel a lot better about fly balls going towards Figgins - Anderson - Quentin than Quentin - Owens - Dye.
  19. I'd do Figgins + a pitcher for Dye, he obviously doesn't have a ton of value, and Figgins would fill more of a team need than Dye.
  20. the article basically says that it's hypothetical and he's just throwing that team name out there.
  21. I've read that he has above average range and arm strength, and that his hands were the only problem.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) That would be beyond dumb, as one of the pluses with Slayer is the offense he provides as a middle infielder. Sorry about that, epic brain fail there. If they could get a suitable pitcher to replace Floyd, it'd make sense to sign Roberts to a 2-3 year extension and shift ALEXEI to CF once Becks is ready to take over at SS, since they're playing him there in the minors.
