  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) I really don't care about announcers bringing in advanced analytics. That does mean they need to wax poetic about RBI production, but I have to say, any time someone verbally talks about a players wRC+ it sounds really dumb. Use the graphics for it, but stuff like "This guys fWAR is through the ROOF" makes it sound like they are trying too hard. It's why Len Kasper is the worst announcer in the game and so terrible and awful. Looking forward to this guy. I actually hope he's like Kasper. One of the best in the business.
  2. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) How about they move the Jags. Jacksonville is a bloody awful place to have a football team. There are rumors that Shad Khan could move the Jaguars to St. Louis at some point but he always denies that.
  3. Seriously, do these guys only work on Wednesdays in the offseason?
  4. This is an excellent move. I'm so glad they didn't just throw an ex player up there. Hearing a young, professional broadcaster will be a breath of fresh air. I grew up with Hawk just like everyone else but it's been time for a new voice and style.
  5. If the price was Adams and Avail it'd be done already in my opinion.
  6. Sounds like the Rams and Chargers are headed to Los Angeles
  7. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) I'm willing to bet the Sox are out on Upton, like raBBit is leading on to. I think they are much more likely to end up with Fowler but if the O's trade for any of the Rockies OF'ers, that helps the Sox out tremendously, because I would assume Davis wouldn't be an option for them anymore either. I think Davis is going back to the Orioles eventually and they'll add an OF as well. Not Cespedes or Upton though.
  8. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Wilmer Flores is a SS who hit 16 HR last year, is 24, arb eligible and trending upwards. You're not getting that for Avi Garcia + your garbage, the Mets open that conversation with some one like Spencer Adams. That's fine. he's currently a bench player for them though.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) raBBit on twitter just now says Fowler has moved into most likely, with Cespedes and Upton now being more difficult possibilities. Seems to really dismiss Upton now. He said the Sox should be in on Cespedes until the very end. Upton isn't happening. To me, it sounds like they are in on Cespedes. If they doesn't pan out, they can sign Fowler for cheaper and still upgrade the team.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) That doesn't say we are interested, it is speculation that we could have interest. Nothing to see here. Honestly our starting SS is either going to be Saladino or Alexei. I see no other realistic options, including Desmond. It actually says that they are interested. It says that those teams interest could prompt a deal. Garcia and Petricka for Flores too much? Too little?
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Imagine if they traded for one of the cheaper ones (Blackmon or Dickerson) and then signed Davis. Wow. Imagine if they traded for Cargo and signed Davis. Now that's an offense.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 1m1 minute ago Chen's deal is for $80 million/5, with an opt-out after the second year. Sixth-year vesting option based on IP (180 in '20, or 360 '19-20). If the vesting option kicks in for Chen, it's worth $96 million over six years. And the White Sox 2nd round pick moves up another spot. Currently picking 8th in round 2.
  13. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Biggest issue with this is that Davis may not sign until Feb or March according to reports. I'm not sure the Sox care to wait that long. I really think the longer this drags out, the lower chance the Sox have at landing Cespedes. I don't think that Cespedes or Upton will sign until Davis signs. Baltimore is the wildcard in the whole process.
  14. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Really getting tired of a few teams just buying all the talent. A cap and an international draft sounds good to me. Too bad the union would never let that happen. I think it's fine. The White Sox could do it. They choose not to.
  15. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) Like I was saying yesterday, I highly doubt the Sox end up with Cespedes or Upton. I'll predict Fowler to the Sox at this point. Cheaper & a shorter term deal. I'm not willing to go this far, yet. I just don't really believe that there's much interest in meeting Cespedes' demands. I think the White Sox will compete $$ wise with the limited amount of teams interested in him. Davis needs to sign in Baltimore. Once that happens, I think the White Sox are firmly in the Cespedes mix because Baltimore is the only other big spender. I personally wouldn't give up a 1st round draft pick for Fowler. He's just not that good. If he were great defensively, i'd feel better about it. I'd much rather just sign Austin Jackson and maybe trade for Chris Coghlan somehow and call it a day.
  16. Yasiel Sierra is signing a 6 year $30 million deal with the Dodgers. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/dodg...sel-sierra.html
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) If you're looking for some semblance of hope for the Sox, Heyman is reporting he's being repped by "Hairston kin". I hope they don't sign him though. I'd rather the Sox sign a bunch of guys from the 2016 class.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Our own SoCalSox says Mike Groh and Dave Ragone are under consideration Dave Ragone is a Quality Control Assistant in Washington. He was the QB coach in Tennessee when Loggains was the OC. Brad Biggs has speculated that former college QB and current WR coach Mike Groh could get moved to QB coach.
  19. The Bears have officially named Dowell Loggains their new OC.
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) I'm still not that afraid of the Tigers. Not just because of the luxury tax penalty, but an enormous contract for Cespedes means there's no chance of extending JD Martinez when the time comes. They're still probably our #1 competition, but I don't see them throwing out an offer that we can't beat. That's the thing. I bet the White Sox would do something like 4 years at $88-$92 million. I can't see Detroit doing that though.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Detroit was my fear and if anyone will pony up money it's them. I'll believe it when I see it. The luxury tax thing is a real concern. They are absolutely screwed going forward.
  22. My fiancee is a Steelers fan. Ben is her favorite player but mostly because he's the best player on the team and a necessary component to win Super Bowls. People look past s***. I do it too.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Oddly enough, given who and how much money we have in FA (along with fact we get White back, so essentially have 2 first round picks), I'm starting to think now might actually be the time to use a 1st rounder on a QB. Of course, I'll say that this purely assumes Fox, Pace & company are very high on said QB and I'd presume the QB would be Lynch or Wentz, guys who need a little more time and thus might be their at 11 because they don't offer teams the "quick fix" alternative. Of course Dallas could nab one of them as the predecessor to Romo (as could the Giants for Eli). They are the only two QB's (outside of Hackenberg) who have what I call those elite QB skills (from a pure physical perspective). Hackenberg is talented, but you have to ding him for the lack of production / improvements (poor coaching or not). Gabriel (former Bear front office man) has raved about both Wentz & Lynch. None of the QB's are worth taking at #11. They could do it in a move down though or a move back up from #39
  24. Cespedes is apparently looking for $150 million. Nobody is giving him that at this point. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2016/1/11/1074...ee-agent-rumors
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) I think he'll do better to be honest. I'll say 4/44-48M. I bet it's the Angels for 3 years and $30 million.
