Fulmer can be traded. That rule was changed last year after the Trea Turner nonsense
-
Nightengale predicted Upton to the White Sox so you know there's definitely some truth to it.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Upton is a good player and would be a fine addition to the team but not for the draft pick we will lose and the contract he will get. Also, if we sign 2 QO players, do we lose our comp pick and 2nd rounder, or 2nd and 3rd rounders? WE lose the Samardzija pick to sign a QO free agent. We would lose our 2nd rounder as well if we signed two guys

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Yes they do. MLB Network will have a live special in about 20 minutes from Nashville. Also, I wonder if Sox and Cubs would agree upon a Q & Robertson deal for Wilson Contreras, Jorge Soler, Javier Baez and filler. I think Sox would turn that down. They'd need Schwarber for Quintana.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 01:09 AM) What do they mean in between first and second rounds? There are 30 picks in the 1st round. Then there are 16 players that received QO's. It goes by order of record so Padres get 1st 2 comp picks (Kennedy, Upton) and the Sox get the 3rd pick (#33). 3 teams (Cubs, Giants, DBacks) have forfeited 1st round picks so far so the Sox have moved up to #30. Should keep moving up higher as well. -
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 11:24 PM) To quote Ed McMahon, "You are correct, sir." Just an update: If you look at the 2013 first round draft page at baseball-reference.com, the first 27 picks are "normal." Picks 28 through 33 are compensation picks for teams that lost free agents: 28 St. Louis for losing Kyle Lohse to the Brewers 29 Tampa Bay for losing Melvin (B.J.) Upton to the Braves 30 Texas for losing Josh Hamilton to the Angels (how did that work out?) 31 Atlanta for losing Michael Bourn to the Indians 32 Yankees for losing Nick Swisher to the Indians 33 Yankees for losing Rafael Soriano to the Nationals Picks 34 through 39 are competitive balance picks: 34 Royals 35 Marlins 36 D-Backs 37 Orioles 38 Reds 39 Tigers Then the second round started with pick 40. This year, 16 free agents refused their qualifying offer, so the worst case scenario is that all 16 get signed by one team with a protected pick. We would get our original first round pick at #10, our compensation for Samardzija at #33, and our second round pick at #61 (30 first round picks - one for each team plus 16 compensation picks plus the 6 competitive balance picks minus 1 unprotected pick from the team that bought up all the free agents. If each free agent is picked by a unique team with an unprotected first round pick, then the White Sox picks will be the #10 pick, the #17 pick (30 first round picks minus the 16 picks for the free agents plus the compensation picks for Ian Kennedy, Justin Upton, and then Samardzija), and finally the #46 pick (adding the 13 additional picks for the free agent compensation and the 6 competitive balance picks). So the picks are: the first round pick: #10 for sure the compensation for losing Samardzija: #17 to #33 the second round pick: #46 to #61 And I didn't have to break out my circular slide rule! 3 teams have forfeited picks so far. White Sox currently pick at #30

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) You're asking a baseball team to give up the 3 of the top ten prospects in all of baseball who are as young and cost controlled for not the #1 pitcher in baseball. No one has been able to cite an example of when a team came even close to doing that when asked. They want to say he's under a bargain deal. So is Felix Hernandez, so is Jose Fernandez. I doubt Florida even asks for that type of haul. Which is why it won't happen. There are very few teams in baseball capable of acquiring Chris Sale and the teams that could wouldn't be willing to.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) Bronco leaving BYU for UVA. That is pretty surprising. Good hire for the Cavs. I wonder how many schools that had openings even contacted Bronco for their openings. I figured he was a lifer at BYU. Bronco Mendenhall can have sex again now. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) And the Dodgers better be ok with missing the playoffs this season if those guys need 1-2 years to adapt to the big leagues. They'll sign Cueto and another starter and be just fine.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Sale's contract is maybe worth another top 5 prospect. You guys aren't even asking for that. You guys are asking for Seager, Pederson, Urias at minimum. There's no precedent for that. Hell, Atlanta is only asking for Pollock for Miller. Miller isn't signed for the next 4 years and Sale is better than he is.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) But you can. There's no justifying what you guys are asking for. Yes, I want the Dodgers top 5 prospects as well, 3 of which are MLB ready. But that ain't happening. Then there's no reason to trade him. Massive Godfather offer or he stays. It's that simple. It's one of best contract bargains in all of baseball.

Remember when posters on this site didn't want to give him a QO? Talk about dumb ideas. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) So, since Shark officially signed now. Are we up to #30? Yes, as of right now. Should climb higher.

WhiteSox currently have picks #10 and #30. Looking like they'll be #10 and something around #25 overall. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Yep. Only 6 more teams need to give up their first rounder (or Padres give up one or two comp picks which I think they will sign Desmond so it's possible.) So best case scenario looks something like this: Iwakuma/Dodgers, Chen/NYY, Samardzija/SF, Heyward/LAA, Fowler/Mets, Desmond/SD, Davis/STL. That doesn't account for Murphy, Upton, Gordon, Gallardo, or Kennedy but it would give the White Sox the 24th overall pick in the draft.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 11:32 PM) Gotcha. Anyone have a website with this information listed? I'm wondering what the best or most realistic position we could be in. Is it feasible we pick at #10 and #25? I feel like we are still waiting for the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels, Rangers, Cardinals, and Giants to lose a pick. In order to pick #25, 8 teams would need to lose 1st rounders. Think of it tho way: 1-30 in first round. 31. Upton 32. Kennedy 33. Samardzija. That pick moves up 1 spot for every team that loses a 1st round pick.

The Greinke and Price deals basically made Chris Sale untradeable. There probably isn't a team in baseball that would pay what would be necessary to acquire him. ZIPS projected that if Sale were a free agent right now, he'd get $299 million over 10 years. He's locked up through 2019 at no $$. That Dodgers package would start Urias, Seager and keep going. Sale is as close to untouchable as it gets.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) It's Kaplan and Rogers. They probably talked for 5-8 minutes, hung up, then proceeded to talk about the Cubs again. They pretty much wasted the first 3 questions talking about nonsense too. One thing I took from it is that we probably won't be disappointed by a Q trade. Hahn knows how much value he has. If he has actually pulls the trigger, there's a huge package coming in return.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) Oh, someone said we had #31 after the Lackey deal, figured we would move up to #30 once the Dbacks lost their 1st RD pick. We started at pick #33. Cubs and Arizona giving up picks gives us 31.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) With the signing of Grienke to ARI, I love my prediction now. LAD need to come up with a good starter. Have 3 draft picks and would lose one signing a Leake, Cueto, Shark. They don't lose a pick for Cueto or Leake.
-
Lackey is 37 but he did put up a 3.6 fWAR last year. I think he'll end up being their #4 starter. That's solid.

I keep seeing people reference this article and stating that the Sox are interested in Nova. It doesn't say that. It says nothing about the White Sox being interested. It says they were at one point. Then goes on to say that the Yanks will move him and nobody is really interested. San Diego fans on twitter seem to think he will be a Padre.
