Who can the Sox acquire?
This thread is a dumpster fire.

Why does *any* member of the White Sox front office deserve their job?
In my opinion, we asked for this as White Sox fans. Our fickle, dumbass fan base would not support a true rebuild. That is what needed to be done. They didn't want to waste prime years of Sale and Abreu so they went out and spent a ton of money to patch it together. The team spends a ton and it doesn't work and the fans don't come out to support the team. If they rebuild, people complain that they aren't signing free agents in Chicago blah blah and they don't come out. White Sox fans are a bunch of excuse makers. Nobody is getting fired. The team is 30th in runs scored and hasn't homered since April 22. That falls on no one except about the athletes that are getting paid to perform.

Who can the Sox sell?
If the White Sox are awful in July, they will weigh whether they can get a better deal for Shark than a comp pick. I could see them dealing Ramirez as well. I think they are more likely to add at catcher and 3B though. It's an 8-14 start. It's really bad. There's no way they aren't going to hit eventually though. It just doesn't make sense. They don't look like a playoff team but they could finish .500.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) I know the odds are against it, but let's not forget that the 2014 winning/2015 losing Super Bowl QB was drafted in the 3rd round. That is definitely the exception and not the rule though.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 15m 15 minutes ago Bears entertaining trade offers for Pro Bowl TE Martellus Bennett, per league sources. Bennett wants a new contract in Chicago or anywhere. Adam Jahns @adamjahns · 15m 15 minutes ago #Bears GM Ryan Pace said they've removed players from their big board because of character concerns and injury reasons. A 3rd maybe for Bennett? No chance. 5th rounder.

I can't tweet at work but Schefter just tweeted that #Bears are taking trade offers for Martellus Bennett because he wants a new contract....

4/29 Games
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Not if they need Carroll to spot start because of this scheduling nightmare. How long can they keep him on rehab? He has to clear waivers to stay down

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) Have you guys heard the rumors of Bears swapping picks with the Rams and picking up DT Michael Brockers as well? Benjamin Allbright on twitter brought up that rumor. He's a talk show host from the Denver area and usually has pretty good sources. He doesn't generally speculate and has broken Rams stories in the past. It's interesting. Rams target would supposedly be Kevin White.

2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) If Aiken or Matuella were willing to sign for that big of a discount it would be tempting to pull the trigger, close to $1 million to spend on prep prospects past round 10 could be huge. However, I think the injury history for both of them is too concerning so I'd stay away. If they are willing to sign for that far underslot though, Hahn could use it as leverage to negotiate with other available players. Personally, I'd like to see them take a more advanced college bat like Swanson or Happ, it's been pointed out several times that we have a distinct dearth of position prospects in the system outside of Anderson, Hawkins and Trey and it would be nice to have premiere bat coming up. If you could get either guy for like $2.4 million, I'd do it. That gives you $1 million in savings to take a chance on a guy later.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) Have you watched game tape of Ray? Or do you just not know how leverage works? It doesn't matter if he can't play in space, he has a far more valuable skill in his ability to defeat the opposing team's best pass blocker and get to the QB. Valid points. I think he's either a 4-3 DE or a SLB that kicks down to end on passing downs. I hate his fit as a 34 OLB but I think some teams would play him there. And yes, I've watched game tape of Shane Ray.

4/28 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Engel's also kind of similar to Eaton (tools-wise)...but with the pop to hopefully hit 7-10 homers a year? Is that too optimistic? I realize physically he's much bigger (at least six feet) and more reminiscent of Trout than Adam. I like rabbit's Greg Gentry comp for Engel.

AJ
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 12:12 AM) It is too late now, but 8m a year sure seems cheap looking back at the crap we went through. AJ4L. If it wasn't for the recent awareness of personal attcks I'd tell all the sabermetrics fans to suck a dick. Wow. Now that's a hot take. fWAR is a better tool but according to bWAR, in 2014 Flowers put up a 2.3 WAR season. AJ was -0.9. Flowers was a better player than AJ Pierzynski last season. Would I upgrade from Flowers/Soto if possible? Absolutely. AJ isn't an upgrade at this point.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) You may wind up being right but you sound as though you are 100% sure of this. How the hell does anyone really know who is going to be great and who is not? Its a crap shoot. Everyone thought the Bears reached for Kyle Long and he became one of the better OL in the league. Well because it's a hobby of mine and I scout players. That's how I feel. Many people that aren't in the "big draft" portion of the national media don't like Ray all that much either. I don't think he's a bad player. Just not a top of the 1st round guy. Now he definitely won't be.

John Danks
Phil Rogers actually did this with the Youkilis trade. It's the only time I can remember where it actually comes to fruition though.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) If players can't refrain from smoking/driving under the influence/getting in to some kind of legal trouble right before the combine or draft, you gotta question the intelligence, character and drive of the person involved. The physical attributes and skill don't really mean much if he's going to get on the roster, get his money, and then screw around and never become a good player. I wouldn't take him at 7. 2nd or 3rd round maybe. Taking Shane Ray at #7 without an injury or character concerns would be a terrible decision. He's just not a top ten player.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) Some people are saying he could fall to round 3 or 4 now, too, which I think is ridiculous. If he's there in the 2nd for Kansas City I hope they jump all over him. That is exactly how they got Justin Houston (3rd round) a few years ago Justin Houston is a much better play than Ray though. I think Ray was always going in the 2nd round and probably still will. He's just not that good. Stiff, straight line pass rusher that is bad in space. Meh.

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
I don't really mind playing games later in the season. More potential Carlos Rodon and Erik Johnson starts.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) it's busch-league NL central and it always will be. Teams have zero depth, you can't name half the #2 starters and guys like Ted Lilly, Arrieta, and Jason Hammel become good pitchers and tradeable commodities all of a sudden. Unfortunately, they really don't need much more pitching, becuase it only has to not suck completely. They do have the tradeable pieces to acquire a Hamels or Cueto though. Would be a really good rotation if they could push Arrieta to #3.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Newman is loved by Kiley and Law and not really touched by other baseball writers. Hipsters vs. Oldtimers. Yep. Law and McDaniel both highly value guys that can hit and definitely stay at SS. As they should.
