2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) There's not been a single hint of the Sox going underslot with their first pick. Kiley McDaniel and Keith Law are probably the two best in terms of having inside information on draft strategy, and they've been suggesting nothing but collegiate starting pitching. I think the Sox would be ecstatic with any of Tate, Jay, or Fulmer. I think they'd take Missouri State RHP Jon Harris if they are all gone. Lets pretend that the 3 pitchers are gone. Lets also say that Bregman, Rodgers, and Swanson are gone. I think the Sox would go with Harris over Benintendi, Stephenson, or one of the HS OF's (Tucker, Cameron). What does everyone else think?

Official NHL 2014-15 Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I don't have any issues with the credit card restrictions. Fact is, between the amount of Chicagoans living in Florida and the modern day secondary ticket market, any Blackhawks fan who wants to attend the game, will be able to anyway. The restricting of Hawks jerseys in the club sections? Now that's ridiculous. I'll never understand not wanting to sell your product, regardless of who's buying it.

Cohesiveness between development/coaching and scouting
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) I didn't answer the question because no question was asked. Sigh. And it isn't my place to say if Theo should be fired, but I would bet if the Cubs lost 90 + 6 years in a row, there would be plenty of calls for his head. And if Hahn or KW lost 90 games plus 6 years in a row, you would be calling for their head. And regarding 2008, last I checked, KW hasn't written a book about how to judge players based off his success that season. But if Dayton Moore can have 6 90+ losing seasons in a row but is still a baseball genius in your mind, maybe you should cool it on all your posts about every White Sox employee needing to be replaced. Look at some of the players he passed on with these high picks. If it was KW doing it or the White Sox, you would be complaining like crazy. Since it is KC, he is doing everything right. How's Christian Colon instead of Chris Sale working out?

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) nice..... and i will say this, lets do, i am game. i am for playing the hot hand now. I like Avi at 2. I'd put LaRoche in front of Abreu because he draws a ton of walks and hopefully Jose would bat with men on base more often.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) for me, i would really think about moving Melky down and switch with Conor and / or Aelexei depending on the pitcher. think about switching Avi and Adam. in stead of using the sabe formula of coaching, go back to the hot bat. I don't think the lineup really matters that much but If I changed it I'd go with: Eaton Avi LaRoche Abreu Melky Ramirez

The latest mock draft on SheridanHoops says that the Bulls are exploring the option of trading Taj and/or Noah. Says the Bulls and Celtics have been the 2 most active teams in trade talks (not with each other). http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2015/05/30/mo...-and-then-what/

I'm of the view that the Sox aren't really this bad
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Which is what's going on right now with the Indians surging forward, and the Tigers falling back. Minnesota +21, 27-22 EWL (+3) KC +49, 30-18 EWL (-1) Detroit -1, 26-26 EWL (+2) Cleveland +4, 25-25 EWL (-1) CHW -42, 19-30 EWL (+4) Right now, not surprisingly, the Twins and White Sox have the biggest spreads between expected and actual records. Yeah but during the time in which the Sox were "supposed" to be 19-30, the starting pitching has been bad. Isn't it feasible that the starting pitching is awesome for the majority of the season and they outperform the expected record? I think it's a miracle that the Sox are 23-26 with the offense that they've had. I think the offense has to improve slightly and the starting pitching and bullpen is good. I expect this team to finish right around .500 which would be a 7-10 game improvement over last season.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) So a AAA player has a great April then goes into a 3 week slump and you call him up??? That may be why he is not even hitting his weight in the majors. Maybe he is even playing hurt which would explain the horrible May he has had. They didn't call him up for his offense though. Johnson was killing the Sox defensively at 2B.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 31, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) Sox #1 pick in 2016 will be protected. Nah. I don't think they'll finish with one of the 10 worst records. They'll be near .500.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) My friend caught the Royals HR today. Her status... "Anyone that is a true Cubs fan knows that if you catch the opposing teams homerun ball, it's an unwritten rule to throw that thing back where it came from! By far one of the coolest, most adrenaline rushing experiences of my life. Wrigley Field & the Chicago Cubs are ❤ #chicagocubs #wrigleyfield" First comment; "I hope to one day do what you just did!" I just read that people enjoy teams hitting home runs against them so they can be dicks. I'm glad I don't have many of these people in my life..

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) Why not? I guess you could keep Robertson but he's being wasted this season and we know the shelf life of relievers isn't long. Trade him now while you can get a king's ransom. If they continue to play poorly, they will most likely trade Ramirez and dump Bonifacio on someone. They will weigh whether or not it's better to trade Shark or take the comp pick. I don't really see anyone else getting moved though.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:02 AM) And who will play SS and 2b for this playoff contender after you deal Ramirez? Other than Jeff and Alexei, there are no other players to deal and expect anything near major league ready (like Avi or Davidson/Eaton) in return. LaRoche, Robertson, Duke and Bonifacio would just be salary dumps. Beckham might have more value due to his versatility and improved offense this year. They won't be trading Duke, Robertson, or LaRoche.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (LDF @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) a great analysis esp the bold. nice!!! my take 1.) Arizona - Swanson-ss 2.) Houston - college pitcher (they were just looking for a pitching help) 3.) Colorado - pitcher top avail / rodgers-ss (they need pitching help in the system) 4.) Texas - pitcher 5.) Houston - Tucker 6.) Minnesota - bergman / benintendi (they wouldn't mind a top prep here) 7.) Boston - bergman / pitching 8.) Sox - I think Houston goes with 2 position players. If I had to predict, I'd go with: 1. Arizona-Dansby Swanson SS 2. Houston- Brendan Rodgers SS 3. Colorado- Tyler Jay LHP 4. Texas- Alex Bregman 2B 5. Houston- Daz Cameron CF 6. Minnesota- Dillon Tate RHP 7. Boston- Andrew Benintendi CF 8. Sox-Carson Fulmer RHP

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Here's why sports are fun and also fun(ny). So I'm reading a batch of articles. Hoiberg is going to the Bulls (unless everybody is wrong) because it's been his "dream" to coach in the NBA. He's giving up a Final Four team to go to Chicago and ultimately get fired (NBA coaches are hired to be fired in 3-5 years). So in 3-5 years Fred either gets another NBA job as part of the revolving door of NBA coaches flipping from franchise to franchise (can you say Alvin Gentry?) or he returns to college ala Tim Floyd's career. Meanwhile, articles are out there saying Hornacek's dream is to coach in college at his alma mater, which happens to be Iowa State. He has an NBA job and gets along famously with his Suns' GM. The Suns have a history of letting coaches fulfil their contracts. So isn't this a nonsequitir?? Hornacek should be happy staying in Phoenix and trying to win a title (though he should dump those Morris twins or at least split them up ASAP). Meanwhile Fred should be happy in Ames winning a national title this season at ISU and being a hero in Ames forever while making a ton of money and having a bit less stress on his fixed-up heart. Both coaches should stay put. No they shouldn't. They should do what they want to do. Hoiberg was always seen as an NBA guy. He wants to coach in the NBA. And college basketball blows.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
I'm pretty sure the Sox won't be giving up a 2016 1st rounder to sign a QO Free Agent. Scratch big impact bat with QO attached off of the list.

GT 5/30: White Sox (22-25) vs. Astros (30-19)
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) Why not? He can't be worse than Garcia. Yeah I think he actually could be.

Who can the Sox sell?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Peavy was also considered an injury risk and was 2 years older and was clearly on the decline plane of his career. When Samardzija had 1.5 years left on his contract, his price was much more than Peavy with 1.5 years left on his contract. Plus, Samardzija comes with a comp pick. Peavy didn't Thus an estimate that Samardzija with 1/2 years = Peavy with 1.5 years. If anything, more. Samardzija doesn't come with a comp pick anymore. That's why the White Sox have to weigh whether the return is better than receiving a comp pick. It's a valuable pick. It's not just getting another pick in the late 20's and 30's. It's getting more money allocated into your draft pool thus gaining a lot of flexibility in 2016 draft. It would take a pretty nice package to get Samardzija from the Sox.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 30, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah I don't get why he's not dhing... If you DH Garcia, then Shuck has to play vs a LHP. They aren't going to put Bonifacio in RF.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 30, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Heck yeah. Hayden Fry is immortal in Iowa because he had some great football teams. Heck, Ben Jacobson is Northern Iowa has probably entered Saint-hood for sticking with the Panthers this long and having a decent to good team every few years. I guess with Hoiberg I feel, if he just wants a coaching job in the NBA, they'll always been available year in and year out, but if he truly wants to coach the Bulls, this may be his only chance, at least for a while. In Iowa, sure. The rest of the world could care less though. Hoiberg is an NBA guy. He wants to coach in the best league in the world with and against the best player in the world. Do you know why he'd leave Ames, Iowa? Because the Chicago Bulls called and you can't turn it down. When Stevens was asked about why he left Butler, he said, "Because it's the Boston Celtics". Not really sure why this is hard to understand.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Prince Shembo charged with animal cruelty. (He killed his girlfriend's dog). Will be interesting to see how the NFL responds to this. Between Atlanta's prvious animal cruelty experience and Shembo's past, will be interesting how they respond as well. Edit: Just saw the details. Disgusting. Where is HickoryHuskers to defend that walking piece of filth? You aren't allowed to talk about the rape case. I was shouted down last year for that….

In-season managerial changes a risk, BUT
QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) Not sure how Chicago media is reacting since I live in New England. But national media is trashing Jerry on the Bulls fiasco. My gut says he won't touch Robin now until the off-season when the Bulls attention has died down. My gut says that he's not going to touch Robin at all anyway.
