QUOTE (almagest @ May 20, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) I thought it was only illegal to trade coaches for players, not coaches for picks, even if players are traded from our side. Why would the Knicks want Tom Thibodeau?
-
The way the roster is constructed, I'd take my chances with LaRoche against LHP. Beckahm will be playing 3rd. That leaves Flowers/Soto which they won't do, Shuck, and Bonifacio instead of LaRoche. I'd rather just take the chance that LaRoche hits a couple of fastballs. If they can get an Aramis Ramirez for cheap, then yes maybe sit LaRoche vs some LHP.
-
If the White Sox are in contention they are much more likely to add than subtract. They'll just play out the year and take the comp pick for Samardzija if they can't sign him.

QUOTE (Special K @ May 19, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) No it's Robin's fault for not taking him out and bunting to move the runners over to second and third with one out in an extra inning game. That's about as basic of a managerial decision as it can get. Leaving Lexi in obviously didn't work out too well, unless you thought the infield pop up was a good result. No it's not. Sacrifice bunting there is stupid and gives you less of a chance to win. I would have criticized Robin for bunting. I loved his answer in post game. He said they had 3 tries to get a single. I will never understand the infatuation with giving away outs.

Greg, are we still trading Robertson? Asking for a friend...
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) And neither will Derrick Rose. Yeah probably not. Butler is really good and a guy that they must keep. If he's your best player though, you are most likely stuck in basketball hell like they have been.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) You know...I've done that before, where I see someone I'm friends with but don't want to interrupt what they have going or maybe know that I have something important going and want to focus on that (say a business lunch). Not saying it is the case, but if I'm picking a player to build the franchise around, it is Butler, not Rose. Butler will never be the best player on a championship team though.....

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 18, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) Didn't Goff produce Bernstein's show for a long time? Yes. I'm aware. Goff had his own info on his show this morning though and then Bernstein wrote about it. But yeah they both must be lying about everything always because.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) This is how I feel about it. I could just as easily speculate anything else I wanted, and have just as much substance behind it. Goff lying too?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) That would certainly solve the cap problems going forward. It wouldn't be the only move. Obviously, I'd rather trade Sharp and keep Seabrook but that's one hell of a haul. -
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/05/18/ber...-marred-game-6/ Butler/Rose issues have been talked about on The Score all day. Goff reported some stuff as well.

http://sportsmockery.com/2015/05/report-oi...khawks-veteran/ Seabrook is great but I'd make this trade if that's really an option. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) It absolutely would. Anything before June 15, budgets into this "year". That would put us out for this July 2 and next July 2's classes. They already are rumored to have two guys wrapped up for this July 2, so I really don't see this rumor being true. Yeah I guess I didn't think about it that way. I assumed it would be part of July 2nd pool.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) Is he worth sacrificing two years of international signings? This would mean we couldn't sign anyone in this July 2 class over $250k. I didn't think it would dictate this year at all. They could bid on this guy and sign their rumored guys. Would lose out next year for sure but I think the system will be changed by 2017.

Maybe this is related to Javier Baez getting pulled from Iowa Cubs game. He's going to be the new White Sox 3rd baseman.

The next young player coming over from Cuba. The White Sox are apparently interested. Not much information on the kid. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan May 16 Signing bonus for Cuban OF Eddy Julio Martinez, 20, could reach $10M. Braves, Giants, Yanks, Cubs, Nats, D-backs, White Sox shown interest. Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB May 14 Eddy Julio Martinez, 20, ran a 6.4 60-yard & had seven hits (including a triple) in 11 ABs in two games. Hit the ball to all fields #Cuba Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB May 14 Cuban CF prospect Eddy Julio Martinez, 20, worked out for 17 teams & several top execs in DR today. He's eligible & could sign next week.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 17, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) When does Dan Black become interesting? Probably never. He's old.
-
Heading to the Cubs game today with my girlfriend and her parents. All 3 of them are Pirates fans. Should be interesting.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) If that were to happen, I would not be surprised if the Sox went after Zimmermann, Grienke, or Cueto. I would also love to trade for Sonny Gray. Zimmerman, Greinke, and Cueto will all cost much more than Shark. I also would be surprised to see the White Sox pony up for a QO free agent year. Can't afford to give up another high draft pick, especially a 1st rounder.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Do you actually think the Bulls would genuinely "dump" him? I sure don't. Absolutely not. I fear that he'll be here forever and get another deal. I just don't think that's the proper course of action.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) The thing is, Noah is an expiring contract. So while his skills are vastly declined and the player may not be in demand, he does have value to other teams. Okay good. Then they should be able to dump him. They can't give him another contract so it'd be pointless to not try and get something if they can.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) if you don't mind, let me counter that and ask, if the sox do not resign him, then what?? Then they probably use the $$ that they offered Samardzija to sign someone else or they make a trade. Not really sure.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) and lets take it further, personal decision with in the scope of his duties to make the day to day decision regarding the team on the field. It's not the movie Moneyball though. Hahn isn't calling down to Ventura to tell him what guys to play. It is Rick's decision to send Micah Johnson to the minor leagues though. Robin can manage how he wants with the 25 given to him that particular day. It's like that in most cases around baseball.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) I can't believe Hinrich has a player option for $3 million next year. Biggest waste of cap space ever. They could dump it easily but would probably need to include a 2nd round pick.
