QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) I don't have it backwards. I used WAR which is what Baseball Reference uses. You deferred to fWAR. Q is a good pitcher but he is not a stud. Chris Sale is a stud. His WAR for 2013 and 14 is 6.9 and 6.6. I don't know what his fWAR is It's Fangraphs WAR which is what most use. This argument is stupid though. Q is awesome and would take a haul to acquire though.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Nothing wrong. Actually it is a great position to be in. But what happens if we finish last again because of numerous holes on the offensive side. They probably have 1 trade chip in Shark but he is a rental and may bring 1 propect back. You referred to Q's WAR but it was not 5 last year. It was 5 in 13, 3.5 in 14 and is near even this year. I am not a huge WAR fan which is why I think Q still has major value. Now we know he has had some bad breaks but if he doesn't turn this season around, he would not bring a ton. Our offense/defense is bad. Those guys are not going to bring anything back via trades. So if the FA money is limited, then Q may be the only tradeable player that can fill more than 1 offensive shortcoming. You have it backwards. Quintana put a fWAR of 5.3 last season. He's a stud. He has already accumulated 1.2 WAR this season. He's a guy that you don't trade unless you get an absolute haul considering the contract he has.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) If Q is your #3 starter behind Sale and Rodon next year, you have to see what he could bring on the open market. Suppose he could bring back 2 top prosects ( ML or AAA). If Q brought back say a catcher and a 5th starter or a 2B and an oufielder you may need to go that route to fill two holes from a depth position. Now if Rodon or Sale drop off, you cannot consider it. I think you wait till the offseason and see what you get for Shark this summer and what you may see in any call-ups in September. If one of the young pitchers in the ssystem looks like they could work into the rotation next year that is another plus. I disagree. What's wrong with having 2 aces and a #2? All 3 of which are bargains for next 6 seasons. I'm not trading Q unless I get a ton in return.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) and he is not even drafted yet. jeez. Teams put feelers out though. They generally know whether guys will sign or not.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) this is me, the whole Scott B presence has be jumpy, that is if he is Fulmer advisor and / or of Fulmer is there at #8 Fulmer will sign. Law doesn't have Daz Cameron in his top 30 mock though. He says that Cameron (Boras) is asking for too much money and may drop.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) Quintana would bring a huge package because of his performance combined with his contract. He would bring back more then anyone not named Sale on this roster. Quintana was a 5 WAR pitcher last year and has a great contract. There is no reason to trade him. SS is right though, it would take an absolute haul to get Q. 2-3 system top 10's and at least 1 top 50 prospect. Probably even more.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) For their first pick? I've heard nothing to suggest they'll have to go cheap with the 8th pick. No. LDF specifically mentioned HS guys that may fall. White Sox won't have overspending later (rounds 4-10) as an option this year unless they go way under in round 1 which I don't see them doing.

Nate Jones as the RH 8th inning guy would be nice. Jones/Duke/Robertson is a nasty backend.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Anyone with insider that can send me the Keith Law mock? My insider ran out on Monday and I haven't gotten a chance to renew it yet. Nobody that they can realistically afford if they go slot at #8. Losing 2nd and 3rd round picks really hurts the draft allotment quite a bit. I'd start studying up on college seniors.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) ok sox fans, i got this big rush of adrenaline fron today's game thread ...... the draft countdown is starting and i feel as this will be an unknown pick. the major pitchers may be gone. so who will the sox pick at #8? which players are going to drop to the 4 round and later. i see several injured prospects that is flying under the radar. which prep will be avail?? Anyone with insider that can send me the Keith Law mock? My insider ran out on Monday and I haven't gotten a chance to renew it yet.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) no offense, it will be a waste of a #8 pick. a #8 for a closer where others can be used to fill in. this system has major holes that needs to be address, one of those holes is not for the pen nor closer of the future. He has 3 plus pitches. Anyone taking him in the top 10 is pretty certain that he can start.

They are like 3 games back of the 2nd wildcard. The season is definitely not over.

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) I wonder how KW is feeling about this team after a 15-2 drubbing Probably similar to how he felt before? Why would 1 bad loss sway any opinions that greatly? -
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0602-story.html Hahn still wants to add to the club but has contingencies in place if they continue to flounder.

Harrelson surgery pushed back to Thurs, probably won't be back unt
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Swirsky isn't great but the broadcast is much more enjoyable than the Hawk Harrelson Show. If you've noticed, the umpires haven't been out to get the Sox since Hawk left.... -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) There haven't been many top coaches from the college ranks who could succeed equally well in the NBA. Wooden Jr. /Stevens with the Celtics and Larry Brown immediately come to mind. Lon Kruger wins everywhere but in the pros. P.J. Carlesimo had moderate pro success after Seton Hall but is mostly remembered today as the coach Latrell Sprewell choked. For every example like that, there are five or ten Pitinos or Caliparis. http://abc7chicago.com/sports/college-coac...ts-them/762899/ They usually come to awful situations though. Hoiberg, Stevens, and Donovan should all be in the playoffs next year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 02:10 AM) OK. Here's an outsider's point of view. Why in the world is Hoiberg an upgrade over Thibs? Answer he's not. This is a ridiculous hire. I cannot believe Thibs and Scott Brooks were replaced by Hoiberg and Billy Donovan respectively. LOL hires. Hoiberg will be gone after 3 seasons with pressure to can him after two. Donovan may not even last a full season. Billy Donovan is a much better basketball coach than Scott Brooks. It's not a ridiculous hire at all either. The Thibs/Management thing was over. It's well documented. Read about it before declaring yourself an outsider and then spewing ridiculous thoughts.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I think this is a very realistic scenario given that Fulmer is on the board at #8. While I don't have any indubitable evidence to think this is the case, I think there is a possibility the Sox were using Fulmer as a pawn so their scent wouldn't be on Jay. Jay has just happened to pitch so well he might not get out of the top five. Correct me if I am wrong but I think it's just Keith Law, arguably the biggest the MLB Draft pundit, saying the Sox are all over Fulmer and they would take him if he's there. No one else was reporting that but a lot of mocks were really just going off of Law's seemingly certain prediction. That was about two weeks ago and what I was hearing at the time, on good merit in this case, was the Sox absolutely love Jay and he was the guy they covet at #8. Since then, Law has really cooled his tone on the potential Sox-Fulmer marriage and now acknowledges the Sox love Jay. It's conjecture, but I think there's a possibility that Law was manipulated by the Sox. I don't know if you should betting on Fulmer holding up as a starter for 6 years. There is very few scouts who are warm to him being a starter at all. I know. A lot of the same people that thought Chris Sale was destined for the bullpen too. I have questions about Fulmer long-term. I have questions about whether Tyler Jay will hold up as well though too. I don't think there's sure-fire option in this class. That could be why Jon Harris is the most realistic possibility. I just hate going safe there at #8 with a college starter that projects as a #3. I'd take one of the HS arms instead (Ashe Russell) of settling at 8. They won't do that though.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) No Shark in your future plans? Adding Shark to that mix would be nice, but I just don't see him staying. He's going to get so much more $$ on the open market. He'd be nuts not to test free agency.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) This might be the year to go over. With the crazy outflow of talent that is happening all at once in Cuba, this would be the year. I don't know if it is the US relations changes or what, but it seems like every other day someone is leaving Cuba. I completely agree. The Sox could basically sit out next year and I think the International Draft is on the horizon at some point as well.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) With Tate, Berrios, Buxton, Sano....you might be talking about the #1 farm system in the game if they all stay healthy. Berrios is probably having the #1 season of all the top pitching prospects so far. You've also got Kohl Stewart/Meyer/May/Burdi on the pitching depth side...and Dee's brother Nick (who's struggling right now) but a huge talent from all the scouting reports last season. The problem's quickly becoming not only the Royals and Tigers, but the Twins might be the best positioned to go on a long run, with Mauer's being the only really big contract on the books. For sure. The Twins are loaded. But if Fulmer falls to the Sox, I'd be content with a rotation of Sale, Quintana, Rodon, and Fulmer for the next 6 years. That stacks up with nearly everyone. Sox don't have near the amount of position players, but would have an outstanding rotation going forward.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) I want Fulmer vs Jay in game 1 of the Super Regional so bad, but we all know it will be Duchene. What a treat that game would be. Of course it won't be Jay. They don't use him in the rotation.

Any ideas for Hoiberg's lead assistant (defense)? I was thinking about Lawrence Frank or Kurt Rambis. Any other names?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) There's not been a single hint of the Sox going underslot with their first pick. Kiley McDaniel and Keith Law are probably the two best in terms of having inside information on draft strategy, and they've been suggesting nothing but collegiate starting pitching. I think the Sox would be ecstatic with any of Tate, Jay, or Fulmer. I think they'd take Missouri State RHP Jon Harris if they are all gone. Lets pretend that the 3 pitchers are gone. Lets also say that Bregman, Rodgers, and Swanson are gone. I think the Sox would go with Harris over Benintendi, Stephenson, or one of the HS OF's (Tucker, Cameron). What does everyone else think?
