  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) I used to approve of statements like this in never giving up on the season, only to see the team stink in August and September. I've learned when you have a sub-par team, that's a ridiculous stance to take. You just know this team is going to stagger in September again and you know it's not good enough to make the playoffs. Hahn has to know this. At the very least he should be planning a trade of Shark to start the ball rolling, and getting ready to finalize it. They aren't going to get enough value for Shark to trade him. They have 4 good starters and a good bullpen. They need offense and they will definitely try to compete next year. They won't be trading any of their newly added players. The only option is to upgrade the offense and try to get into the playoffs. They have a chance if they can get in with their pitching.
  2. How much would it cost to add Ben Zobrist and Brayan Pena? How about Zobrist, Aramis Ramirez, and Pena? Very far-fetched. Just wondering the prices of those guys most likely.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Off topic...I get Rodon vs. Liriano on Monday. Now there's an intriguing matchup knowing how Liriano's career arc has gone. And you'll be at the best ballpark in baseball. Love that place.
  4. Wow. I decided to check out this thread and now I hate myself.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) Unlikely. Already going over on Zangari, and Comito will raid the pool by 70k from 15th. He's probably the De Oca of this draft - consolation prize if Fulmer (Rodon) doesn't sign, they'll take a shot but just not likely to happen. I wonder if the Clemson pitcher and Zangari are basically switching slot amounts. The slot value for the 4th rounder is $508,000. They can pull the other $70,000 for Comito but signing a couple guys under from the top 10. You are right though, Hickman © won't sign. Blake Hickman may be over slot as well.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) does anyone knows if he will be a RP or a SP in the sox org. HIckman will probably start but I think his major league future is as a RP
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) this was a discussion a couple of weeks ago when someone mention, "you always draft the BPA instead of need or anything else". also the philosophy of "BPA is the right way to run the org". so answer me this, when this whole term change??? This was in regards to the 1st round. For example, the Sox wouldn't reach for Chris Betts at #8 because their major league team has a hole at catcher. That's all that was being said. You stack your board if you are picking in the top 10 and take the best guy regardless of position. As you get later in the draft though that changes.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Exactly. Now they can be offered up to 100K penalty free. I would expect a run on them in round 11. Austin Byler is a guy I like. Especially at this point. Probably a 1B but big power, walks, and K's.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) then remember this debate of BPA for next yr discussion. when the discussion comes around on getting or not getting the BPA. I will. It's not really a debate though. It's the way this new system has worked. You can't just take the BPA in every round. Not in baseball.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) Seniors primer http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/colle...ittle-leverage/ If those seniors wouldn't sign for $10,000 then there was no reason to take them in top 10 picks. They may go off the board early today.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 11:40 PM) ref BPA... i agree in the difference however the term everyone uses is bpa. either way, i was totally wrong for my b****ing. peace. You just can't take BPA in the baseball draft though. Especially in the top 10 rounds. If you are taking a guy in rounds 1-10, he better sign otherwise you are screwed money wise. If Everett or Hooper were going to sign, they would have been drafted in the top 10 rounds. Someone will take them toady and take a shot at signing them but they are most likely headed to school. As for the White Sox, they did a pretty good job considering what they had to deal with money wise. There just wasn't much money to go around and they drafted a few guys with upside. Fulmer was a no brainer at 8. Hickman was a huge value where he was acquired. The pitcher from Rice has promise and the 1B has a ton of power. They went way under in a few spots but they probably had to. I'm guessing Fulmer will be at slot and Hickman will be over.
  12. Interesting Fringe 5 info on Jordan Stephens from Fangraphs. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fringe-...-draft-edition/
  13. Illinois LHP Kevin Duchene went in round 5 to Oakland
  14. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) I am ignorant on MLB draft rules. Why only 3 players in 5 rounds? Signing free agents or something? They lost their 2nd and 3rd round picks and ability to spend the corresponding slot values for signing Robertson and Melky.
  15. Here are some links on Stephens: http://www.riceowls.com/sports/m-basebl/mt...ens_770043.html http://www.chron.com/sports/rice/article/R...son-5292416.php http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/col...ten-6108409.php
  16. Stephens was Rice's best pitcher last year and came back from TJS. Here he is in HS:
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) FYI when I said smells of Fry, I meant that underslot lefty with not as dominating stuff (on the surface). That's what I remember hearing a lot about Fry last year at this time. I don't think Fry was an under slot signing but I get you.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Dejong top catcher availble (if he stays there). I wanted him in round 4. McCarthy top college player available, also wanted him with the last pick. Hoping for one of these. That's if we stay the college route. Don't know much about the hsers. DeJong to ST. Louis.
  19. Here's some video on Erwin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvzCf73ghUs
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Smells of Jace Fry Jace Fry is much better. Erwin is a projectable lefty. It's fine. Probably under slot.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) the 2 main prep pitchers are there, Everett and justin long. but i like Thompson. 3b No chance the Sox can afford Everett at this point
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) Ours is going to cost us only $46 million over the next four years. That won't even get you two years of Lester. Lester has identical numbers to our supposed #3 starter though over the past 3 seasons.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) with the needs of the sox, no way in the 4, but prob more like 8 or 9. LDF, Matuella has Boras as an advisor. What are they doing? How much could he possibly want? At this point there isn't much money available to them.
