  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) They wait way too long. There's no law that says they can't trade a guy before the all star break or get details worked out during the break when the team is as bad as this one. Bad, bad front office. Shark isn't the only guy that needs to be dealt asap. Greg, prepare to be disappointed.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) I believe the freakout had one other major component, this tweet: Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 55s55 seconds ago The #Astros also had Jeff Samardzija on their radar, but couldn't afford to wait for #WhiteSox to decide on a course of action. People are taking that as meaning the Sox didn't know if they were buying or selling though. I don't think it means that. I just think it means they exchanged names with Houston and the Sox weren't ready to make a deal with them. Then Houston moved on with Oakland.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 20m20 minutes ago On value of sandwich pick -- observer thinks 31-40 in 2016 may not yield an impact player but could produce an evday MLBer. Better than '15. Definitely interesting to think about. This is a bad way of looking at it though. Guys fall in the draft all the time. The value in the comp pick is the flexibility that it allows you throughout the draft. Stop looking at the value of the particular player chosen with the pick.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Supposedly this team is really good. 33-12 at home with 2 losses to the White Sox. Ridiculous.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:43 PM) Rather see what Alvarez can do, as Rondon is just too awful offensively to be a legit prospect If Rondon could hit .210 in majors, he'd have a 10 year career. You don't give up on that at SS
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) Alvarez is playing SS. He's not going to play SS full time over Rondon though. Rondon is a defensive wizard.
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) Davidson 1-2 2B, BB Micah 1-3 Guerrero 11 Ks in 6 innings. 2 ER Trey replaced by Toby Thomas so hopefully he's not hurt Robbins 3-4 2 RBIs Martinez 5 IP, 4H, 1ER, 2BBs, 5Ks Wouldn't be surprised to see Trey in Birmingham with Alvarez playing 3B for WS.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Why is Adolpho on everybody's Top Ten? Extremely high ceiling.
  9. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) In 2017 we could have an entire rotation 28 or younger and under team control through 2019. Chris Sale 28, $12 million. Under control through 2019. Jose Quintana 28, $7 million. Under control through 2020. Carlos Rodon 24, $660 K?. Under control through 2021. Erik Johnson 27 $660 K? Under control through 2020. Carson Fulmer 23 $660 K? Under control through 2022. In 2017 the bullpen could also still consist of Robertson, Duke, Nate Jones, Putnam, Petricka, Jennings, Webb, Montas, Danish and any others we chose to add. Pitching appears to be in good shape for the future. There is no need for Jeff Samardzija in the rotation costing $12 mill + a year. There will also be no more $15.75 mill from John Danks in there. We need to trade Samardzija (not for scraps but something or take the comp pick) and give Johnson and Rodon chances to grow the rest of this season and next so we can see what we have for the next couple of years. If they can't handle it we need to look for another solution in the rotation. This is a really good post.

  11. Any chance Pittsburgh would trade their competitive balance pick in return for Ramirez? I'd take that deal for the White Sox in a heartbeat. Those picks are released today.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:29 AM) Recap posted. Name getting my attention lately: Danny Dopico. Matt, Chris Comito is the 14th rounder that took $170,000 over slot. Dopico was a slot signing.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) So keep Shark and extend him a QO. The Sox will be picking in the top 10 this year, little doubt about that at this point. With the comp pick for Shark and their first and second pick both being high, they can afford to lose one of those picks to sign an elite player. Your OF defense gets a major boost with Heyward out there and I think that takes a lot of pressure off Eaton as well. I suppose. Part of the reason why that comp pick is so valuable is because you'd gain tons of flexibility. Giving away the 2nd rounder and that $1.8 ish million slot isn't something I'd want to do.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) Schwarber again. Their draft scouting is incredible They need to just stick him in LF and let him mash.

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:47 PM) Abreu is scaring me... I'm not sure who the real guy is. He has sucked hardcore as of late. His thumb is messed up. And everyone around him blows. He should probably go on the DL.
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) Agree to disagree, he is the exact type of player this organization needs and he's available this offseason. No one you're thinking of is. He'll get a QO though. They can't give up any more draft picks.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) I think desperate contenders are the difference between now and then. I don't see how an NL pitcher with a 3.91 ERA earning 23.5M through 2018 is a bargain. If that's a bargain then the Sox need to deal Q now. Don't look at just ERA. Hamels has been awesome. He plays on an awful team. He's owed $90.5 million over next 4 years. He's a bargain compared to what guys will get this offseason.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 04:51 AM) Is it possible that Soler isn't as great as people, including me, thought he'd be? I believe Melky has a better stat line than him now. Actually, Soler: .258, 5 HR, 26 RBI, .705 OPS Avisail Garcia: .272, 7 HR, 31 RBI, .703 OPS Anything is possible but players need like 1500-2000 at-bats
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) I think he has been average but others argue he is way above in 2015. I do not see it. He's not a super duper star but he's really good. I think his thumb is really jacked up too.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) Just think if Davidson comes up and does what Saladino is doing? We'd be stoked for our 3B and SS of the future. I'd consider DLing Abreu and bringing up Trayce Thompson actually. DH Garcia.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) So is Abreu a phenom or just another guy? I still love him and expect him to homer every time up, but ... Just another guy? He's an .800 OPS player with nobody else in the lineup and he's playing injured.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) I expect us to lose every game now so it's really not so painful. Did anybody hear Hawk tonight say he wasn't gonna give up til the Sox were eliminated cause there's too much talent? That's really an indictment (hint hint?) of Robin. If we got the talent, then where are the wins? We should be contending apparently. It's actually the opposite. The Sox are so far worse than the rest of the league offensively and defensively. They have a -WAR. That's awful. The fact that they are 42-48 instead of 20 games under speaks to how good the pitching is. The fact that they have the record they do is actually a positive for Robin.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) he could have come up next year after the deadline. Is he learning his 3rd pitch? Is he learning to gain command? No, he's pitching for the highest odds to get the next man out...so Cooper/Ventura win 76 games instead of 72. No reason to be going through this part of his development in the majors. Disagree. That change up wouldn't have develop in AAA because we would have dominated with the fastball and slider.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) What's better? Struggling up in the majors and gaining experience or going 7-8 innings consistently in the minors and looking special? Not sure. He's definitely looked pretty pedestrian thus far in the bigs. I don't have a violent opinion on this either way. He struggles with command. He had a 3.69 FIP coming into tonight. He hasn't looked pedestrian at all. He looks like a top of the rotation starter for many years to come.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) They're wasting service time on this nonsense. Poor asset management all the way around. Not only would he preserve service time in Charlotte, he'd get better coaching and would be pitched to develop, not to be better than Noesi. He's not wasting service time. He came up after the deadline. They control him for 6 more seasons after this one. It's fine.
