  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) On this board? People were very weirdly infatuated with him. Yes they were. Myself included. If he could hit .220 in the majors, he'd have a long career. That's how good his defense is.
  2. Matt Spiegel has been proposing a Puig for Quintana deal all morning. Matt Spiegel ‏@MattSpiegel670 12m12 minutes ago Avisail Garcia and Jose Quintana for Yasiel Puig. Who says no? I love Quintana but Puig is the type of talent I'd ideally want in return for him. Supposedly, Abreu and Puig don't get along. Thoughts, everyone?
  3. Keith Law did his midseason top 50 prospects piece today: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...prospectsjuly16 As for Tim Anderson: 44. Tim Anderson, SS Age: 22 | B/T: R/R | Height: 6-1 | Weight: 185 Currently at: Double-A (Birmingham) It's the Shawon Dunston starter kit: not quite Dunston's arm strength (which might be the best ever for a major league shortstop), but similar range, quickness, bat control, foot speed … and reluctance to take a walk. Anderson came into pro ball with less baseball experience than most players, and he's actually a little more patient already than Dunston ever was, so the comparison isn't totally fair to Anderson. But it does give you a rough idea of what kind of player Anderson can be even if he doesn't make any significant improvements. Keith Law's Top 10 1. Corey Seager SS Dodgers 2. JP Crawford SS Phillies 3. Lucas Giolito RHP Nationals 4. Juio Urias LHP Dodgers 5. Joey Gallo 3B Rangers 6. Nomar Mazara OF Rangers 7. Tyler Glasnow RHP Pirates 8. Rafael Devers 3B Red Sox 9. Brendan Rodgers SS Rockies 10. Kyle Schwarber C Cubs
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) the one player i am getting to really can't wait to see him in chi is Tim Anderson. granted his d @ ss was a work in progress, i figure last yr, with more reps, he should be passable. but i haven't heard alot of neg rpt about his D, so it must mean he is improving. Keith Law put Anderson at #44 on his midseason top 50 Tim Anderson is #44 on Keith Law's top 50 prospects list: 44. 5. How about they just hire a professional broadcaster as the TV PBP guy? And then leave Stone next to him. It doesn't have to be an ex-player. Get a professional from somewhere. Someone doing post game work somewhere like a Wayne Randazzo or Mike Wills type.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) Monday is an off day Ahh my bad. That explains it then. I expect Montas and Saladino to head back after Friday's DH
  7. After looking over the schedule, are we positive that Montas won't start one of Friday's games? Shark/Danks on Friday Quintana on Saturday Sale on Sunday Rodon on Monday Shark wouldn't go Tuesday on 3 days rest would he?
  8. I'm guessing that Montas and Saladino will go down Friday night and Albers will return.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) Quintana for Gallo? The Rangers won't trade both. White Sox would need more than just Gallo
  10. Is this the worst thread going right now? Holy good lord people it's a f***ing All Star Game. Do we have new 12 year old posters that I didn't know about?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) It's Trevor Daley, not blood clot Kimmo Timmonen. Anyway , this is an interesting comparison to the 2010 purge. Some of the names from the 10-11 season, wow. http://thecommittedindian.com/lets-compare...ion/#more-14030 Yeah Daley is fine. Hawks will go Keith/Seabrook/Hjalmarsson/Daley/TVR/Rundblad and a mix of young guys. And they'll be fine.
  12. Most people that are angry about him not pitching would criticize the Sox for letting him pitch if he happens to get hurt in the game. It's an exhibition game. No reason to have him pitch.

    Jay Bruce

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) He'll get that...the problem is that "teams that are trying to compete right now" can't afford too many positions where guys are working in and adapting. And that is the one thing I have agreed with you on. They obviously saw Sale/Q/Abreu and decided to expedite the rebuild but guys like Avi, Micah, etc truly need a ton of time before anyone reaches final conclusions.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) I agree. Can any person convince me why it is a good idea to pitch Danks in Game Two of that DH? What you do is go with Shark and Sale and see if just maybe you can stick it up the Royals' backsides and win the DH. Now you are guaranteeing a loss in Game Two and one of their lefties just might connect off Shark. You are right, though. It ultimately is a charade, we don't have the team this year. I did think we might want to go with our top guns one final series to see if we can knock off the Royals and maybe contend for a WC. This is such a dumb move, I do question the common sense of Coop/Robin. And this is coming from a Danks lover like me. I truly love the guy. Danks has to pitch at some point though. Who cares if it's Friday night? They want to give Sale extra rest.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) Gave up on True Detective tonight. Maybe the most disappointing show I can remember. Man I loved tonight's episode.

    Jay Bruce

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Not saying you are wrong, but I didn't realize Avi stunk this much. Is he this big a disaster or are you exaggerating? Doesn't look great so far. He needs about 1500 plate appearances though regardless of what Soxtalk thinks.

    Jay Bruce

I'd be totally fine with adding Jay Bruce because there's also a DH spot in the AL. I would not entertain trading Q for him though which was entertained in the offseason.
  18. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 12:47 AM) I'd hope they trade Q for a solid young 3B and resign Shark Solid young 3B and what else?
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Seeing how the sox are 15-25 against their own division I can't see them going 18-14. They need to sell at the deadline. Other than Samardzija though, they don't have anything to "sell". They'd probably deal Ramirez or a reliever. That's it though.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) White Sox have been on a run that last 2-3 weeks based mostly on pitching and improved defense. Despite a few here frustrated with Sanchez hitting, he has stabilized the D and I see no evidence that he will be replaced by Micah Johnson any time in the near future. Gillaspie is seeing less and less time because of his D . Bonifacio is barely used because he hasn't hit or fielded well in his opportunities. Beckham has fielded well and got some big hits but overall pretty much we we always get or worse from him. Management seems to have adjusted slightly on the fly, perhaps on the urging on Ventura and his pitchers, using Sanchez and now Saladino to plug holes defensively . Of course it's not so easy to fix the hitting which remains a huge disappointment. Will the Sox trade Samardzija ? Are Bonifacio and Gillaspie on the hot seat to be released/traded ? If Samardzija is traded do the Sox also trade LaRoche or some bullpen pieces considering Jones may return along with Albers ? If Samardzija is kept do the Sox trade once again from the minors further depleting any talent they do have down on the farm in an effort is get a more productive offense ? The 4 game series at home against KC after the ASB should give the Sox one last chance to show they can do better within the division since that will probably be the key to moving up in the standings . Frankly I think holding onto Shark would be an epic failure. The Cubs got a boatload for him . Oakland got 3 ML ready players from us plus another player that fit Oaklands style . I don't expect 4 players but should be at least one guy who looks like a decent prospect or more if Shark is packaged with a bullpen arm. I'm not advocating doing this, but unless they trade for more offense, they should probably trade Shark.
  21. If they aren't going to add anyone, then they should probably trade Shark and just put Johnson in his rotation spot.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 10:23 PM) In modern day baseball, competing for the WC is all that matters. With this pitching, there is zero doubt this team can win October. They just might not be good enough to get there. October is a crap shoot where your odds are helped by stud pitching This is why they'll try. If they get in, they can win the whole thing with their pitching.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) Stone said the other day Avi was 5th in the AL in velocity coming off his bat. As down as some people are on him, there is potential there. If he gets balls in the air, he could be a monster. Most teams don't wait this long. but I truly feel that guys need like 1,500 plate appearances before we really know what they are. Avi has less than 800 big league at-bats currently.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) I don't know. Was Brooks the best person we could sign? I presume we don't actually have bird rights to him so were actually limited on what we could offer him? I do agree that I'd rather give Lin that money then Brooks. They had his Bird Rights but he made the minimum last year. They can only pay 120% more than the minimum without tapping into the MMLE
