  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Pretty difficult for any freshman to start at LB in the Big Ten. I didn't mean it like that so I should have explained. There's a good chance he won't get on the field much at Ohio State. He's competing against the elite talent in the country where he'd probably be a 3 year starter at a lesser program. Probably tough to turn down Ohio State if they offer though.
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) I would guess that the front office and coaching staff have seen enough of Quintana to suspect that he needs to be shut down. This is the first time that I can remember him looking this bad, and not being able to throw 93 - 94. This sudden loss of velocity is very alarming. At the least, they need to get him out of the rotation, and Rodon is the natural choice to replace him. Rodon is not coming up to replace Danks. Johnny is what he is, at this point, and the Sox, knowing that, have decided that he still has a place at the back end of the rotation, as an innings eater. In addition, there is his contract. All we can hope is that whatever is wrong with Quintana, that it's temporary, and that he'll bounce back. He is definitely not a #3 starter, at this point, and Rodon could very well be that, or better. What? Quintana will not be shutdown. He was a 5 WAR pitcher last year. He needs to stop docking around and throw strikes. Rodon will be in the pen, like they've said and then he'll take Noesi's rotation spot.
  3. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) I know it's early, but Sanchez had the second highest average of any Sox hitter in Spring Training, with a .425 avg. He went 2 for 3 in his only AB's, when the season started, and he has been on fire at Charlotte. His defense is outstanding, and I'd like to see him bat in the 2 hole, which would allow Melky to be moved into a spot where he could drive in more runs. In addition, he seems quite adept at batting second, which is a more valuable spot in the lineup than the 9TH hitter. Why not let Johnson have a full year at AAA, and earn a spot? Based upon what Sanchez did at Charlotte last year, and how he has come out of the "starting gate," he deserves a shot. No. And the organization agrees.
  4. My guess for how this shakes out: Drabek and Guerra DFA. Rodon and Petricka to the bullpen. Within 2 weeks, Rodon starting and Noesi taking long man job in the bullpen.
  5. I hate wasting any service time coming out of the bullpen, but I have a feeling it will be a very short-term bullpen stint to preserve his innings. WhiteSox need to clear a 40 man spot and 2 25 man roster spots before tomorrow. Drabek will surely be DFA but not sure what the other move will be.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) Was as close to a Wisconsin lock as it gets. Surprised everyone. Yep. His dad played for Wisconsin. I'd go somewhere and start immediately instead of going to Ohio State but good for him.

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) I bought 3 tickets two months ago but I 'll be at US cellular tomorrow hoping that a Danks renaissance begins. Yikes. That's why I never get tickets that early. I wouldn't pay actual $$ if Danks/Noesi pitched.

Haha I thought this thread would get more action….
  9. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) I can't get mad at cubs fans for being excited. Bryant's a rare talent, but the pass Theo gets for sending him down is ridiculous. I don't disagree with Theo's decision at all, but the idea that Theo doesn't bring rookies north for opening day (or hasn't historically) for developmental reasons is a joke. He did it to buy an extra year of control. Again, I don't think Theo should be criticized for sending Bryant down, but let's not act like it was for developmental reasons. Certain members of the media were all over the Cubs for it. Phil Rodgers, Jon Morosi, everyone at the Sun-Times. They all said garbage like "oh he's one of your best 25, he should be on the team". Every intelligent person knows why Kris Bryant started in the minors and why it was a good decision. Epstein has to say that it was for development. Theo doesn't usually bring up rookies for Opening Day or start them at home. How is that not a fact? I do truly believe that Bryant was going to come up and debut on Monday in Pittsburgh. That would have made the most sense. He wasn't truly in the minors for developmental purposes but I do believe that he was promoted 3 games earlier than they wanted to.

A-Rod and a ton of cash for John Danks and Conor Gillaspie. Can A-Rod still play 3B at all and who says no? Kenny always gets his guy…………..
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Pitching wins world series. True. You generally don't build a team to win the world series though. You build a team to go to the playoffs over and over and over again. I'd rather have Chris Sale than Kris Bryant because Sale is proven. I would take Bryant over Rodon or Gray though and that was the original argument.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Clearly Dick Allen has not come across cardinals fans, who think that Rosenthal is the worst closer in game, holliday is "unclutch", matheny is worst manager, etc etc Matheny is actually a terrible manager though
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) He is. But you can't really complain if you're Illinois because they're 30-6-1. I generally despise college coaches in any sport still
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) He's great. Tyler Jay has skyrocketed up draft boards. He's a stud. Just be wasted in the bullpen.

  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-mlb-dr...-april-edition/ Sox linked to Carson Fulmer. I just came here to post this. I love that Kiley McDaniel works for Fangraphs now. Such great stuff.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) The front end rotation pitcher is more important. Give me the stud position player that plays 155 games per season over the stud that is an injury risk every time they take the mound and only pitches 32-36 times per year.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) This is how the bench, catchers, and LaRoche stand up for their careers vs LHP. Soto is a clear winner, with not much difference between Bonfacio and LaRoche. Flowers and Shuck lag behind all the others. Soto career vs LHP .285/.376/.482/.858 Tyler Flowers vs LHP career .215/.261/.401/.662 Adam LaRoche vs LHP career .239/.297/.418/.715 Shuck career vs LHP .293/ .333/ .353/.687 Bonficaio career vs LHP .291/.340/.379/.720 Using LaRoche's career stats vs LHP is a stretch. Not the same player vs LHP anymore.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) I know Price is LH and Flowers is RH, but that's about the only thing Tyler would have going for him in that match up. If Price had a tough time against RH hitters, his paycheck would be a lot smaller. LaRoche has a tough time against LHP though. Robin even mentioned using Soto and Flowers on certain days vs LHP.
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) Do I have my cubs hate glasses on to think that I would rather have Sonny Gray or Carlos Rodon? Definitely hate goggles. Give me the everyday player.
  21. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) A little surprised at Soto but I guess he's straight up Shark's personal catcher? Yeah I thought he was going to be Samardzija's catcher most days.
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) The only time I ever lowered my standards and went to Wrigley urinal was to watch him pitch. when I got home, my uncle found out about it, poured charcoal fluid on my shoes and lit them on fire. Your uncle sounds like a very stable human.
  23. I don't want Robin fired and the struggles this season aren't his fault but if he calls for a bunt again in the 9th with runners on 1st and 2nd, I'd consider that a fireable offense. Good lord stop that madness.
  24. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) Very true and I hope they have this philosophy for the first 5-7 rounds, but I wouldn't mind seeing them drafting some high ceiling/big bonus high school position players outside of the first 10 rounds. Much like they did last year with Bryce Montes de Oca but with a position player instead. They won't have the money to do this unless they go way under slot in round 1.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0415-story.html Ramirez injury/bullpen depth issue could push back Bryant's debut from Friday. Almost no chance they start Bryant at Wrigley this weekend. I fully expect him to be in the lineup Monday at Pittsburgh
