QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I'm sure his thumb is still bugging him. I'm glad he was scratched. I hate Viciedo hitting 8th. He wasn't going to see any pitches with Flowers behind him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) He always was. I heard an interview with Robin, he doesn't know what is going on with Rios' situation and doesn't want to know unless he is being moved. It would be interesting to see where Garcia was at the moment. That would be the indication about what was going to happen. Viciedo has been scratched in favor of Danks though. All the beat writers said they'd know what happened prior to Game 1. Strange.

TR Sullivan @Sullivan_Ranger 1m Major League sources, "don't see it" as far as a trade between the Rangers and White Sox involving Rios
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:11 AM) For all we know, it may be Hahn doing this too. He may want a 6-12 plus another, or 3 lower level guys, or whatever. It's just unbelievable that a deal hasn't been consummated yet because it really, really makes a lot of sense for both parties. It is interesting that the lineup hasn't been posted for a 1:10 start time today though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:47 AM) With pitching so much of the focus, it's really hard to acquire a guy who, for the most part, strikes out, walks, or homers. You are right. Dunn has always been one of my favorite players and I have actively defended him and that style of play on this board but he has really stretched the acceptable levels of a true 3 outcome player while in a Sox uniform.

JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm 7m Chance that the #White Sox trade Alex Rios to the #Rangers today "smaller than a bread basket" according to a source involved in trade talks FWIW. Bowden is a clown though.

Dunn has cleared waivers. Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 2m Adam Dunn clears waivers, eligible to be traded anywhere. he'll make nearly $20M thru '14 but is hot http://cbsprt.co/1exCcIn

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Y2Jimmy0 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Yeah, definitely, I don't have any information to suggest that Garcia wasn't the best guy available, so I'll give Hahn the benefit of the doubt. It just really seemed like we were in a position to get a Garin Cecchini or Luis Sardinas or something, so I was disappointed. At least we didn't get Will Middlebrooks If Cecchini was in our system and Semien was in Boston would their standing as top 100 guys be reversed? I just think it's funny. Semien has performed the same if not better than Cecchini but everyone was clamoring for him in a Peavy deal like he's something we have never had before. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) Yup, Tekotte called up according to Bruce Levine Levine said it's a new guy named Brett Tekotte coming up. Never heard of him. Hopefully, he's better than Blake Tekotte.

Rangers Claim Rios – Trade Unlikley Major League sources have confirmed that the Rangers claimed White Sox OF Alex Rios on trade waivers. The Rangers have until tomorrow to complete a trade for Rios, but sources say a deal is not likely. The two sides had multiple discussions before the non-waiver trade deadline but could not a agree on a deal. The White Sox were asking for Pitcher Martin Perez, Pitcher Luke Jackson and Infielder Rougned Odor – the Rangers were not interested in parting with those players for Rios. In other trade news: former Ranger infielder Michael Young has cleared waivers. The Rangers discussed trading for Young before the Non-Waiver deadline in July, but there were significant differences among the baseball Rangers baseball personel about that potentional acquisition and they never got close to making a deal for Young. The Rangers are still hoping that Lance Berkman will be able to return to the lineup in the next week to 10 days. More on the website later. This was on TR Sullivan's twitter account. TR Sullivan @Sullivan_Ranger 2m Rangers Claim Rios - Trade Unlikley http://wp.me/p1rXwL-8WMY I would actually take 1 of Odor or Jackson in a heartbeat.

Danny Knobler @DannyKnoblerCBS 23s Rios went on waivers on Monday. Means White Sox have until tomorrow to trade him or pull back off waivers and keep for rest of season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) TY Very much for sharing. No problem. For those of you that have twitter, Stoltz is a fantastic follow. He also sees a lot of the White Sox young players quite often.
-
Nathaniel Stoltz from Fangraphs wrote a fantastic, long piece on Courtney Hawkins today. It contains info that many of us have been waiting for. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/dissectin...-and-potential/

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) Wasn't much, but thought it was funny. Apparently Girardi had a bit of a cry fest about it after the game. No he criticized White Sox fans for cheering the fact that he got hit. And he would be correct. It makes the fan base look stupid.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Why? Hawk loves Charlie Leesman.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Now THAT would be interesting and equally unprecedented. That's not what Bernstein is suggesting, though. That's not what he is saying. By no means do I want this to happen but he is saying for example: Sox receive Ethier, Joc Pederson. While giving up basically nothing. They would take on the contract of a player like Ethier in order to receive a hypothetical prospect that they like (Pederson). I would not like this deal. This is the type of situation it would be though.
-
Scot Gregor @scotgregor 8m Charlie Leesman coming up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Game 2 vs. Twins Friday Hawk will be so excited.
-
FWIW, Bernstein did mention that he talked to a few people that presented him with this concept. So it wasn't just "some idea" he came up with. Bernstein has a solo show on Friday and Hahn will join him from 5-530 live at US Cellular Field.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/08/07/ber...e-sox-optimism/ Pretty decent column. Bernstein has been talking about the Sox primarily for the 1st half hour. He mentioned how he has been talking to some people and they brought up how important it is to be as flexible as they are financially. He said that the Sox could be a team that takes on bad contracts in the final years as long as other teams are trading prospects with those contracts. It's interesting and something that I have thought of. Many of us had said the same things. They will have a ton of money in the coming years, high draft picks, and a ton of young cost-controlled pitching.

I think it's funny that White Sox fans wouldn't go to the ballpark last year to watch a 1st place team but there were meatballs walking up to attend a game to boo A-Rod. Mind boggling to me. Not to mention, the Sox have Quintana and Flowers on the roster who have both tested positive. Just funny.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) Daniel Webb is completely crushing over his last 10 games, between him, Petrivka, Jomes, and Reed, I'm liking the bullpen for next season. I still like Santos Rodriguez as well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) I think it's crazy to think that the White Sox will compete next year. That is why I think Wilkins will at least get a shot. If you aren't giving him a shot to play 1B for the Sox then why is he in the organization at this point? I don't think wanting to see a decent prospect get a shot over PK dragging his ass around is that crazy of a thought. That's where you and I differ. In no way is he a "decent prospect". He is a fringe prospect at best. If the Sox had a decent prospect for 1B, I would feel differently about it. Okay fair enough. I think Wilkins is probably a bench bat in the end as well. My whole point was that I'd rather have him play 1B than PK at this point.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) I think Konerko will be back with his longtime friend Jim Thome being the batting coach Konerko will have a rejuvination of sorts. No. Konerko is done. I hope he knows it. The Sox cannot give him another contract. I can't believe the people here that actually want him back. It's over people. Just stop hanging on. This thread is crazy to me.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) I like Webb, but I don't hold any relief prospect in especially high regard. I feel like there is such a low ceiling in terms of what good relievers are worth to your club. If we had someone that was as good at hitting as Crain was at relieving, we'd be in third place True. But if the White Sox trust their scouting then they should be able to trade Addison Reed to a team that values back end relievers a little too much.
