What he should do and what people will do are not one and the same though. It’s only human nature to not want a constant reminder of their biggest fuck-up. That being said, I’m not suggesting that would be the only reason Hahn would not bring him back. He’s simply not good anymore and if you’re Rick why not bring someone in with more upside and less baggage?

They won’t bring him back. First, he’s a bad pitcher that offers zero upside. Second, the last thing Hahn wants is an everyday reminder of the Tatis trade when young Fernando is potentially making headlines. It simply won’t happen.

Right now I think most experts believe he can be an average-ish LF in the short-term. At some point, he may get too big & slow for the position, but hopefully that’s a few years out. I think the Sox will keep him in the OF until someone in the minors forces the issue.

Then I hope Uncle Jerry fires Rick immediately because that would be a ridiculously stupid move.

The biggest challenge we face trying to convince these guys to come play for us is making it clear that the rebuild is in it’s ending stage and we expect to be playoff contenders by 2020. So while I don’t think either guy necessarily cares about protection in 2019, optically trading Abreu sends the wrong message and for that reason alone it won’t happen.

I’d be pretty pissed if we let go of Avi to sign Nick Markakis. It would basically be the equivalent of giving 200 more innings to James Shields.

Fathom, I normally like your ideas, but this is a terrible suggestion. We have significant financial flexibility, we should not be trading valuable assets for an over 30 DH. If you’re concerned about Fry’s health (which is fair) then trade him for prospects and sign Cruz.

And there was no cutoff, I just went with the top 10 prove a point, which is that Eovaldi has elite fastball velocity and most of the guys with that kind of stuff are amongst the best in baseball. Use your list and go with the top 20 and how does my point change? Guys that throw that hard are rare and typically pretty damn good. You need to start reading my actual sentences and debate the underlying point instead of playing this “gotcha” game on numbers.
