  1. If they’re going for it and want to add a veteran pitcher, I hope they plan on adding someone significantly better than 37 year old James Shields.
  2. I’m going to be pretty pissed if Avilan let’s the inherited runner score and Covey ends up with a loss.
  3. Nice hit Alfredo! Hopefully it’s your last with the Sox for quite some time!
  4. Hostetler did say in that Garfein podcast that he had not finalized his rankings yet as there were still games to be played. Maybe, just maybe last night’s start bumped Singer down a notch.
  5. Covey has some serious balls. So many Sox pitchers would have crumbled after that Yolmer error and Covey just mans the fuck up.
  6. Covey would have been out of the inning if not for that error. At least Covey is doing his job.
  7. Covey in a bit of a jam here, let’s see if he can get out of this.
  8. I never noticed plus stuff last year, so I’m pretty shocked by what I’m seeing with him this season. Kid looks real good.
  9. I have no idea, but I really don’t see the reason to add a veteran starter next year. Rodon & Lopez are locks. Kopech will be up after two weeks or so. That leaves two spots for Giolito, Stephens, Covey, etc. Why would we want to block one of those kids when we’re not going to be truly going for it next year?
  10. I’m actually excited about a potential second half rotation of Rodon, Lopez, Covey, Stephens, & Giolito/Kopeh.
  11. Gotta to see if he can keep this up, but I’m actually shocked that Covey’s stuff looks leagues better than Giolito’s.
  12. Assuming 37 year old James Shields will be decent next year takes a huge leap of faith. I’m not even sure he’ll be decent a month or two from now as his HR rate looks ripe for regression. Honestly, picking up his $16M option would be a firable offense IMO.
  13. I am really like what I’m seeing from Covey. If he can maintain this level of command, he’ll be an effective major league starting pitcher.
  14. Yeah, Covey getting squeezed a little bit right there.
  15. According to Mayo, the Tigers have narrowed their pick down to three guys: Mize, Bart, & Singer. I really hope the Tigers are doing something stupid and are shopping the pick to Bart & Singer and seeing if one will take an underslot deal. Passing on Mize for Singer would be a fail of epic proportions & I’d love to see it.
  16. Why in the world would the Rockies want James Shields?
  17. In all honesty, if it weren’t for the Royals, Rays, & Indians having multiple comp picks, we’d be best off doing a huge underslot deal with a high end prep talent (Kelenic, Wynn, Liberatore, etc) and use the savings to take advantage of the draft’s depth. Just too risky with those clubs in the mix, which hopefully means you take a high floor guy like Madrigal who if you dream on just a bit has some chance of becoming a star.
  18. Yup, I really hope the front office doesn’t try to overplay its hand here. Get a Ti’Quan Forbes caliber prospect and end this regretful chapter of White Sox baeball. The sooner the better as his innings are valuable and would be better served to Stephens, Covey, etc.
  19. Under no circumstance should we pick up a $16M option for Shields. That would be absolute insanity. While he hasn’t been terrible this year, he’s still not good and could easily be replaced with a less costly and/or better option.
  20. I’ll happily take salary relief for Shields and call it a day.
  21. Wow, that lineup is terrible. Rondon batting cleanup & DHing? Lol what? I guess we don’t have a lot of other options.
  22. This is Hostetler’s full-time job. Hahn doesn’t have the time to read the hundreds upon hundreds of scouting reports on amateur talent it would take to run a successful draft. Again, the top pick may be a little different because we’re talking about a smaller subset of prospects to evaluate and the pick is vitally more important.
  23. Hostelter makes the picks. Obviously the first overall pick will have far more influence from Hahn & KW and they could dictate a certain direction (Burdi) or even override a proposed selection, but generally speaking the scouting director runs the draft.
