I’m prepared for the letdown, but I’m still convinced this Singer talk is all a smokescreen.

Callis has Madrigal to the Sox in his latest mock and said Singer may be “slipping”!!!

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
Wow, clearly the timing was right. Just got to hope Rutherford can continue to develop physically and add some power to his game.

How many times has KW watched that clip today?

I feel ya, hopefully it’s all a smokescreen and the Sox take a position player. We typically fly under the radar and this Singer seems way too leaky for our front office. For some reason I feel Bohm could be the guy at #4 (if available) as he’s the prototypical Hostetler pick. Great plate discipline, significant raw power, & positional concerns. And I’d be ok with that even if Madrigal was still on the board despite liking Nick better.

I really don’t buy it to be honest. I think if they go Singer, then enough people in the room felt he was the guy. The problem is now doubt has been introduced to the equation and there will always be the question of whether or not KW intervened.

I would take Mize in a heartbeat, but Singer is a couple tiers below him IMO and I think you’re betting off taking one of the advanced college positional guys (Madrigal, Bohm, or Bart) than a pitcher with Singer’s partially limited upside & red flags. If I were drafting closer to 7th or 8th and the positional guys I mentioned were gone, I’d actually be very ok with taking Singer.

I know this is out there, but would it be worth it for us to offer Mize 1-1 money and try to force him down to us? We would have to make up $1.7M in value. The 5% overage allowance would give us around $500k to work with. If we took seniors in round 4, 9, & 10 that would give us another $800k to work with. If we offered low-end 2nd round money, we could probably make up the remaining $400k gap with an underslot deal at #46. This obviously wouldn’t happen, but would you be willing to pay that cost? Basically we’d punting our 4th round pick and take a lesser player in the 2nd for the top talent in the draft. I think would definitely do that.

Is Fangraphs not doing a mock today? I wonder if there is so much uncertainty that it defeats the purpose from making any changes to their Friday draft.

I really think we should curb all Heimlich talk until he’s actually selected or the draft ends without him being picked. There should be plenty to talk about tonight and we don’t need to rehash the same old arguments until then. And I say this as someone who derailed the last thread talking about it, so please don’t take my comments as a personal dig against those who brought him up.

Also, Law just said Madrigal is not a plus runner. At least from I’ve seen/read, that doesn’t appear to be a true statement.

2018 MLB Draft
I’d love to hear what you think makes Singer a better all around pitcher. From I’ve seen, Mize has the better arsenal of pitches and similar command. I feel like it would be hard to make an argument for Singer over Mize and that’s not a dig against Brady.

? If that happens, then wow is all I can say. And in all honestly, this would be a good thing for White Sox fans. Mize is a guy I really don’t to face multiple times a year for the next half decade plus.

2018 MLB Draft
I’m always skeptical of these draft snippets. I get some of these prospect gurus have sources within front offices and in the scouting community, but a lot of time the information is purposely misdirection and/or being leaked to drive down prices. I believe Mize & Bart will go 1-2 because of how strong those specific rumors were. And while Bohm has been connected to the Phillies, I have yet to here they are enamored with him by any means like the other two teams I mentioned and their targets. At the end of the day, mock drafts are simply speculation with a pinch of industry gossip mixed in. I would not be surprised at all to see the Phillies pass on Bohm tonight.

Not that it really matters, but Phillies fans don’t seem too enamored with Madrigal at #3. They do seem to like Singer though, maybe just maybe they’ll do the hard work for us tonight.

That’s the dream right there. Out of the rumored top three picks, I do feel like Bohm to the Phillies has the least amount of certainty to it.

2018 MLB Draft
Just to nip the idea that KW doesn’t want to take Madrigal because of Anderson & Moncada: “Doesn’t play into it at all,” White Sox scouting director Nick Hostetler told Chuck Garfien and Ryan McGuffey on a recent White Sox Talk Podcast. “We don’t talk about it. It’s not an issue for us. It’s not anything we’ve even discussed. “It really, truly has not come up one time in discussing anything with Rick (Hahn) or Jeremy (Haber) or Kenny (Williams) or (Chris Getz) about who we have in the big leagues, who we have in the minor leagues. It means absolutely nothing when we’re drafting in the first round with that first pick because we’ve got to get it right, we’ve got to take the best player.”
