  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) We have no idea if they asked for Musgrove, Martes, and Tucker though. That seemed like something floated to Gammons. And even if he did, the idea that accepting anything less is compromising is beyond ridculous. A starting ask is not going to be Hahn's make or break point. Hahn asked for Moncada, Kopech, & Devers for Sale initially and guess what, he ended up accepting less. Hahn has a realistic goal of what's acceptable in his mind and he probably won't drift far past that point, but there is no way in hell Hahn is holding firm at Musgrove, Martes, & Tucker unless he's the worst negotiator of all time.
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 08:56 AM) Dumber than thinking a 'gun free zone' sign will protect you? if you prohibit people from protecting themselves legally, then you should be required to do so. Who's forcing you to shop in a gun free zone? If you're so afraid to go to Best Buy without your gun, then do your shopping on Amazon. Businesses should have the right to decide if customers are allowed to carry guns, just like you should have the right to not enter those businesses if you don't feel safe for some reason.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) Juan Soto is a nice piece, perhaps along with severino? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get him for Robertson, but I just don't see it happening. At least not for the money I'd imagine we'd be willing to give up.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) Doubtful Robertson nets Fedde in a trade and no chance of Robles so that leaves Kieboom as the best starting point. Severino would give the Sox another catching option. Wouldn't mind snagging Cole as an option for the #5 spot. Cole couldn't be worse than watching Shields. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) I can't see Washington giving up any more pitching above all else. Yeah, Fedde is their last high-profile pitching prospect and I can't really seem him being moved under any circumstance. I think Kieboom is about as good as you can do in a Robertson trade without eating the vast majority of his contract (would still need to eat some though). If he's not available, I'd do a trade like what Y2Jimmy proposed. Nothing wrong with getting a couple far off, but high ceiling assets for Robertson.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) From BA on the '17 Astros top 10. Huge jump for Stubbs #10 and Perez moved up do #4. Anyone know when pipeline is going to update the top 100? 1. Francis Martes, rhp 2. Kyle Tucker, of 3. David Paulino, rhp 4. Franklin Perez, rhp 5. A.J. Reed, 1b 6. Forrest Whitley, rhp 7. Teoscar Hernandez, of 8. Yulieski Gurriel, 3b/1b 9. Derek Fisher, of 10. Garrett Stubbs, c baseballamerica.com MLBpipeline's top 100 is already updated.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Whatever happened to the 1-15 list? I don't see it anywhere and it was supposed to be posted the day after the 16-30 thread ? http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2017/...2017-full-list/
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) The fans would riot if the Sox took a lesser package to salary dump Shields Shields will be here for the next two years, which is fine since we are rebuilding. Best case scenario is the Shields miraculously redeems himself enough this season to become a viable deadline trade chip (very wishful thinking) I think there is almost no chance he's here for the next two seasons. At some point, they'll either trade him or release him. With Rodon at the major league level and Giolito, Lopez, & Fulmer on the cusp, the rotation is going to be squeezed pretty quickly. He might survive 2017, but 2018 will be another story.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) I don't really have any interest in Severino. I doubt the Nationals would trade Juan Soto but he'd be a great get. I'd offer Robertson and $12 million for LHP Jesus Lazardo and SS Yasel Antuna. Lazardo was a 2nd rounder this year out of HS. He would have been a top 20 type if he didn't have TJS his senior year. Antuna is a tools infielder that signed for $3.9 million as an international guy this year. I would take that deal in a heartbeat and I think it's the exact approach we should take with our B-level assets. Go for guys who are far away but have considerable ceilings. And I 100% agree on Severino, don't really see the attraction there.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/washing...osenthal-020617 That might change soon; the Nats continue to discuss a trade with the White Sox for closer David Robertson, according to major-league sources. Robertson is owed $12 million this season and $13 million next season, creating an all-too-typical Nats obstacle. The team does not want to absorb Robertson’s entire obligation, and does not want to move additional prospects after parting with three young pitchers for Eaton, sources say. So let me get this straight, the Nationals don't want to absorb Robertson's entire contract nor do they want to move additional prospects. Don't really see why we'd make a deal if the best we can do is a partial salary dump.
  10. Holy f*** what a catch, almost impossible to believe that just happened.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 5, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) I think this is a reasonable idea. http://www.wtsp.com/news/local/florida/bil...afety/396284288 I think that is the single dumbest idea I have ever read and further proof that Florida is the stupidest state in the U.S.
  12. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Saw on twitter that ZIPS WAR projections are: SD 23 Sox 26 Reds 26 Mil 26 Oak 27 Atl 28 Phil 29 Angels 30 Min 32 Presumably that includes Q in our total I think if we trade Quintana we're safely in the bottom three next year. Otherwise, we'll be competing with a bunch of teams for those top couple draft picks. The good news is it sounds like there are three or four elite talents in the 2018 draft, so our odds of getting a true impact talent are probably better than most years.
  13. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) This develops a bias with you, dude and I'm not just being a dick. I have no idea what this post means...care to elaborate?
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) None taken dude. Negativity always outweighs positivity. Men feel better about themselves when they insult rather than praise so you are just typical of the gender. No offense dude. GTFO of here with that bulls***. You made a stupid accusation that was completely off base, so don't catch feelings when you get called out for it. There is no general bias against Avi Garcia on this site, bad baseball players are simply not very popular amongst any fan base. Maybe you should look in the mirror and realize you are the one not being objective here. What exactly is there to praise about Avi? How is calling him a s***ty baseball player incorrect? If you are going to make an accusation against the board, support your claim with facts. Also, citing his horrendous defense in RF was relevent to the conversation. Please see the thread title if you don't see how Avi's defensive metrics might be applicable here.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Great post...do you even know what the word "bias" means or are just being a dick for no particular reason? I feel pretty confident saying a guy with a career -1.4 WAR over essentially 2 1/2 seasons flat out sucks. Pretty much every offensive, defensive, & base-running statistic validates my viewpoint and having watched him over a couple hundred games my eyes tell the same story. Avi Garcia is simply a horrific baseball player and if anyone feels otherwise I'd question if they are biased. Also, I'd love to hear your argument for why he doesn't suck, but the sad reality is you most likely don't have one.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I know the Avi bias around here is bad but why list his 2015 DRS? His Fangraphs DRS in 2016 was in the positive territory at 2 runs saved. His overall defense was also iin positive territory at 3.2 which places him 4th amongst all the right fielders in baseball. However to be fair he had limited innings there. No offense dude, but what Avi bias is there around here? The dude flat out sucks at all aspects of the game other than throwing. I asked for his 2015 DRS numbers simply because that was that last time he was a regular in RF. You are really reaching if you think people around here aren't objective when it comes to Avi.
  17. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) Wow. Keller's ceiling is much more projectable and much higher than Whitley or Perez at this point. In fact, it's higher than most pitching prospects in the minors right now. Have you heard anything on Quintana bucket?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) I believe the technical term for it is LOL> Who posted that hilarious GIF of the dog trying to catch a ball? Was that Eminor? Nothing better represented Avi's defense abilities.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Avi was -11 DRS in 2015. So we're talking about a 32 run swing? Realistically, can it actually get worse than that?
  20. A big plus from this interview is that Luhnow can no longer play the "we're good with what we have" card. That doesn't mean we have the upper hand or anything, but it does take away a certain level of posturing and should hopefully lead to more productive dialogue between the two clubs. Again, I'm really optimistic something will happen here in the next 11 days.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) You're inferring, there's nothing explicit in the article. Nightengale is insinuating which is fun but there's nothing definitive here, he's just rehashing the 2 names that have been in the mainstream for awhile now. Fair enough, but what can't be disputed is that the Astros are still looking to add a TOR starter and that it appears the owner himself is eager to add one. And it doesn't take a giant leap to assume Quintana is one of their top targets. I still consider this a plus even if the owner didn't specifically mention Quintana.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) One thing I have wondered last few days is if Hammel hasn't signed yet because he has an agreement with the Sox that will be announced after Q trade That could be very possible, as it's been awfully strange that he hasn't signed a contract already in such a pitching poor market. I know the guys on the CSN Sox podcast were speculating him wanting to stay in Chicago and signing with the Sox.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/c...vival/97431050/ Wow. Jim Crain flat out saying they are trying to get Quintana. This is a good sign. Thanks, Bob. Holy s***, nice find. Honestly, I'd be shocked if Quintana is on our team come February 14th, with the Astros the obvious favorites. That basically leaves 11 days to get a deal done.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) Eaton had like +21 DRS in RF last year. So that's not surprising. What was Avi's in 2015?
  25. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Doesn't necessarily have to break camp with the big league team but I would be very surprised if he wasn't called up before July 4th (unless something went terribly wrong, like hitting .225 in AAA). Between injuries and trades it's hard to imagine a scenario where he doesn't get significant big league action in 2017. That's fine, but he also has to beat Liriano, May, both Garcia's, & maybe even Delmonico for playing time. Obviously that isn't the toughest of competition, but if he's struggling in AAA when positions open up, I'm sure they'll go with one of those other options, at least temporarily.
