  1. As for Melky, I don't see any interest in him right now. Really have to hope being in a contract year brings out the best in him and we can flip him at the deadline for something of value.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Ah ok. Very well could be. He'd make a great deadline deal like Melky would for a contender. Frazier could be a huge trade deadline chip if he rebounds a bit next year. There are multiple contenders with questionable 3B situations right now and at least a couple of them will likely be looking for an upgrade come July. I'm confident if Frazier improves next year we can get a quality return for him at the deadline as the market should be much better.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 06:54 AM) I'd be shocked if dodgers couldn't recreate Lawries production in house. Hell we did I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure their in-house options are terrible. It's pretty much a certainty they add a legit 2B before opening day, although that player will likely be Dozier.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 12:16 AM) But then what was the point of wasting money on Lawrie just to sit him? DH Lawrie...with Garcia getting most of the playing time in RF? That's the only way the current roster construction makes any sense. Of course, running Lawrie out there as your DH (instead of playing 2B/3B) brings his value to other teams down even more, although it is likelier to keep him healthy. The other problem is that it SLIGHTLY blocks the likes of Coats/Davidson/Carlos Sanchez from getting at-bats, but that's really not such a big deal, EXCEPT for the fact that a veteran roster full of players trying to get traded (Lawrie/Frazier/Cabrera/Abreu) to contenders might somehow come up with a decent overall team record, compared to one in the low 60's that gives you access to a pick at the top of the draft board. It also wastes a not insignificant amount of financial resources that could be better allocated/reserved for the future. Personally, I don't see a role on this team for Lawrie if we can't trade Frazier this offseason (and Saladino is healthy). In such a scenario, I'd simply trade or cut him near the end of spring training. I'd have to think someone would take a flier on Brett at his reasonable salary.
  5. For the love of god Balta, Frazier is not a 1B/DH type so please stop lumping him in with the rest of the bunch. Also, you're assuming a one time market inefficiency is somehow permanent by completely ignoring other factors at play (numerous teams rebuilding, changes to comp pick structure, luxury tax considerations, etc). Let's wait and see what these 1B/DH go for next offseason before we assume it's a market trend.
  6. I'm not sure why giving Saladino playing time and keeping Frazier are mutually exclusive. If Tyler is 100% healthy, I'd give him the first two months at 2B over Lawrie. Once Moncada is called up, I'd use Saladino in a Zobrist fashion until the deadline and create additional playing time at 3B & LF by DHing Melky & Frazier a bit more often. Come August, Frazier should be gone and the 3B job would be open the rest of the way. And this would all be dependent on Tyler staying healthy over the course of a full season, which he's struggled to do the past few years. I think this is a far better plan than simply dumping Frazier and banking on Saladino becoming a healthy, productive regular.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Keep in mind that's a 3rd round pick for us, right? So literally that pick is pennies on the dollar. It would actually be a pick between the 2nd & 3rd rounds and that is the worst case scenario. If he's on pace for a 3 to 4 WAR season come the deadline, we should get a much better return than that. Again, I'm not sure why you want to give him away no matter the return.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Good breakdown of potential fits for Frazier. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/trad...-white-sox.html While it's looking less and less likely a Frazier trade happens before opening day, I think that article shows that a lot of teams might be in the market for a 3B come the deadline. I think you hold him and hope to see some serious improvement in his second season in AL. I still think it's incredibly likely he'll be good enough to warrant a QO next offseason and ultimately land us a pick in a worst case scenario. I just don't see the benefit of dumping him for pennies on the dollar.
  9. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 1, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) I'm guessing this starts to heat up again tomorrow, right? Or are we still in the holidays? I think the week between Christmas & New Years is probably the one week of the year most GMs take off (or at least as much as they can). So yeah, I think rumors start heating up again in the coming week. I still don't think Quintana is on our roster come SoxFest.

  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) The 2017 luxury tax threshold is 195M so the Giants have almost 40M in space to fill out the balance of their roster. This doesn't mean they would trade for Frazier and/or Melky, just that they have room to play with. This article seems to disagree with you. Are you including arbitration and minimum salary obligations? And remember, the luxury tax is based on the AAV of all contracts and not just their current rate. This would most definitely increase their total payroll from a tax perspective. http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2016/12/6...tinez#undefined
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/san-francisco-giants/payroll/ For anyone curious about where the Giants payroll currently stands. Looks like they have some room play with. Doubt they would be interested in Melky but Frazier makes sense. The problem is they are over the cap and would pay a 30% tax on any incremental payroll. Now, that doesn't necessary rule out an addition, as it seems like they still made a hefty profit last year despite paying the tax, but it does make a move less probable. The only plus is it does sound like 2018 is the bigger concern, so guys on one year deals would be attractive to them. I really wish I knew how eating money affected tax considerations.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) Which trade would you accept for Q? Do the other teams accept these deals? Q to the Yankees for Frazier, Rutherford, Kaplielian, and Sands Q to the Braves for Albies, Maitian, Soroka, and Toussaint Q to the Astros for Martes, Tucker, Fisher, and Stubbs Q to the Pirates for Glasnow, Bell, Diaz, and Escobar I'd take that Yankees deal in a heartbeat. And the more I think about it, the more realistic a Frazier trade could be. The Yankees look prepared to give Judge a starting gig next year and Ellsbury isn't going anywhere anytime soon (owed $85M over next 4 years). Assuming they plan on going big after Harper in two years, there really isn't room for Frazier. Obviously he's the superior prospect to Judge, but they need a lot of pitching and I could see them ultimately giving him up in a Quintana deal. The question then comes down to the secondary pieces. I think everyone here would prefer Rutherford to Mateo, but that's where I could seem some resistance from the Yankees. Regardless, a Frazier+Rutherford package plus a lesser prospect or two would be awesome if Hahn could pull it off.
  15. QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) What if quintana goes somewhere that isnt NYY or PIT but all the discussions ultimately send other players to those clubs. Just killing time, a scenario such as this feels nice: Q to Hou: Tucker, Martes, Reed, Cameron Rodon, Robertson to NYY: Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar Abreu, Jones to PIT: Newman, Keller, Hayes Trading Rodon right now would be selling low on him, as he was a much better pitcher down the stretch when he started using his changeup more. At the very least, give him a chance to work with a better framer next season and allow his overall numbers to improve. Dude has so much potential and can either be the ace of our next playoff team or traded for a Sale like return if the rebuild needs more time. Absolutely no reason to rush into a Rodon trade right now.
  16. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) Two game recommendations: Inside, from the makers of Limbo, and Firewatch. Got both on sale on Steam for about $12 bucks each. Firewatch was great, only halfway through Inside but also a quality game. Definitely good recommendations. Just downloaded Virigna for $4.50 the other night and plan to give that a go next.
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) Sale got a top 10 MLB prospect, a top 30 MLB prospect and another org top 10 (which sounds like he'll land in the top MLB 100 soon), +throw in. Rockies equivalent for Quintana would be Rodgers, Pint, Tapia, +throw in. Some have said the Sox are asking for more than what they got for Sale. So that leaves Dahl (I think he was ranked ~70 in MLB), Hoffman (top 30 in MLB) and Murphy for Abreu. The probability of every trade proposal happening is .001%. While I come to the realization it won't happen, it's not that far fetched in comparison to the Sale and Eaton trades. Like others have mentioned, signing Trumbo, Carter or Napoli then trading for Q would make more sense and I would agree. But that still lands at about .002% chance of happening. Sorry for wasting your time. Well there is your problem, you've completely overvalued Abreu, especially in this market. Dahl was ranked 16th in BA's midseason update and Hoffman was ranked 49th. Jose Abreu isn't getting you that package coming off his 2016 season. And when you throw in prospect free alternatives like Napoli still available in free agency, you probably can't even get Hoffman as a headliner right now. We really need a strong bounce back from Jose to have any chance of landing he caliber of prospects you're referring to.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) You could always ignore his hypo. Well someone was going to respond and say the proposal would never happen. Just how message boards work. But honestly, I'd rather have him come up with a more realistic proposal to discuss. I appreciate his efforts to drive some discussion, god knows we need with how quiet the rumor mill has gotten.
  19. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) The point of posting trade proposals is to generate conversation, regardless of their probability of really happening. Look, I'm not trying to be a dick and enjoy discussing fan-generated trade proposals, but they got to be somewhat in the realm of reality to merit discussion. Your trade proposal has a 0.1% chance of happening and isn't going to generate any productive conversation on this board.
  20. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) 1. If you have talent on your major league roster, you can always use that to replenish your minors. For example, see the current Chicago White Sox. 2. They have a window to compete now. They stand to lose Arenado, Gonzalez and Blackmon in the next 1-2 years. Abreu + Quintana could add anywhere from 6 to 10 wins. Rockies are currently projected for 78 wins in 2017 by FanGraphs. Quintana (4) + Abreu (2) puts them at 84 wins in 2017. 3. They don't have spots to play all of their prospects. Rodgers, Tapia and Murphy don't have positions right now (not that they are all major league ready). No point in holding them in the minors, might as well convert them to return on your major league roster. To me a team has to commit to winning or losing. The Rockies are in the same boat the White Sox were, mired in mediocrity, but they have the prospects to change that. With my trade above, you have a sweet team for the next two years, you put your balls on the table. At the 2018 trade deadline, you can trade Blackmon or Arenado to add prospects, then in the offseason you could move Abreu, Quintana or anyone else to do the same. Or you could keep your roster as is, win 78-80 games and talk about how you have great prospects. First off, your proposal is a ridiculous overpay. Two top 25 prospects plus two or three more top 100 types and then an org top 10 guy on top of that. That might the largest package of talent traded in the past 30 years. Outside of the Bartolo Colon trade to the Expos, I can't think of anything even similar. At that price, they would be so much better just signing Napoli and trading for Archer. Second, no GM is trading that much talent is a single trade. First off, it's incredibly risky and has a chance of destroying the long-term well being of the franchise if things were to go south (say Quintana blowing out his shoulder). Along those same lines, the GM would be putting his career in baseball at risk at making such a "bold" trade. I can promise you if you're the GM who makes the next Shelby Miller trade, you will never be in charge of a front office again. No matter how you slice it, this type of trade is simply not happening.
  21. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) Send them Abreu too. Quintana and Abreu for Rodgers, Hoffman, Dahl, Pint, Murphy, Tapia Come on dude, they'd be cleaning out their entire minor league system in this proposal. You can't think this is realistic right?
  22. Awesome job guys! Brian & Rob both did a tremendous job, coming off as knowlegable, professional, and most importantly entertaining. I really hope you make this a regular thing, because this was a great listen and I'd love to hear more from you guys.
  23. I'd still like to see the Sox try Saladino in a Zobrist role. If used across 2B, SS, 3B, & LF he could get enough playing time to essentially be considered a regular.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) I am certain that if Todd Frazier were a FA this year he would make less than Turner. Frazier is not worth that much. Good player though. I'm not arguing what Todd Frazier would be worth in this market, I'm arguing what he'd be worth during the 2017 season for a team that acquires him. Turner is coming off a career year, while Frazier is coming off a dissapointing one. There's no doubt that Turner would get more in this market. Having said that, it's quite apparent that teams didn't view Turner as a 5+ WAR player (which they shouldn't), but that he also took a sizable hometown discount. His $16M AAV does reflect his true market value IMO. What's interesting though is that Frazier was the superior player in 2014 & 2015. With a strong rebound in 2017 Frazier could easily eclipse Turner's contract next offseason, especially when you consider he won't cost a team their 1st round pick. Again, I think some posters here are seriously undervaluing Frazier because of his poor 2016 season. I fully expect a 3+ WAR season out of him next year and that should be very valuable come the deadline no matter what market rate you place on WAR.
