Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Chicago White Sox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) 3 guys for q and drob thats not enough. I would expect more pieces which is why I put the plus sign. But we're talking about three top 100 guys, with one being a legit top 10-20 guy in Torres (some have him in their top 5). Rutherford may not be on the Kopech/Lopez level just yet, but he's not too far off. I think adding a top 100 arm in Sheffield makes the deal comparable to the Eaton return. Add another couple prospects in their 10 to 15 range (which would be top 10 guys in most systems) and I think you have a strong deal. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) Why would the Yankees want Robertson? They just paid Chapman. I don't buy the report. This is pressure on the other teams. Did you just see the hauls Cashnan got for 2 months of Chapman and 2 1/3 years of Miller? Have you seen what the elite relievers have gotten paid this offseason? Robertson is obviously in a different tier, but he could be a great buy low guy and provide the Yankees with a nice ROI at the deadline if they're not still in it. I think Robertson makes perfect sense for them assuming they want to continue their "kind of go for it, kind of rebuild" strategy. -

I think posters are in for a world of dissapointment if they think we'd get both Torres & Frazier in a Quintana deal. Robertson is worth something, but his addition is not resulting in another top 20 prospect, even if we pay some cash. I think any framework here revolves around one of two pairs of headliners, with either Torres + Rutherford (more desirable) or Frazier + Mateo (less desirable). Perhaps adding Robertson is what's required to get the Yankees to include Torres in a trade, as he may be the lone "untouchable" in the system. I think the complementary pieces would primarily be pitching based, with maybe a lesser positional prospect like Andujar included. Honestly, a Torres, Rutherford, Sheffield, + package for Quintana & Robertson would be a huge haul IMO. I think expecting much more than that is completely unrealistic. -

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) They just signed Daniel Hudson to a 2/11M contract like three days ago. I doubt the Pirates are truly that desperate to dump salary. They traded two solid prospects to the Blue Jays last year to absorb Liriano's $17M contract. I would not be surprised in the least if they were up against a hard budget right now. -

Anyone know a good Yankees forum? Would love to hear their thoughts on this rumor. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Brian Bilek on the Score later...look at you. Rob Biertempfel (Pirates' version of Merkin), and Levine on later too. Awesome news for raBBit! Do you know the time by chance? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Just want to predict the 3-way trade blows up. Doesn't make sense for Yanks and Pirates Why doesn't it make sense for the Pirates? And maybe the Yankees think McCutchen is likely to bounce back into a 6 WAR player and quickly become more valuable than the players they gave up. I think people tend to overreact too much to one bad year. McCutchen could be an excellent buy low candidate for certain teams at the right price. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) I'm thinking the Pirates are keeping something they get from NY. I agree. Based on the names mentioned so far, I expect something like this: CWS: Glasnow, Rutherford, Newman, Diaz NYY: McCutchen PIT: Quintana, Andujar -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) Are we at the point where we read too much into a whitesoxdave tweet? I honestly don't buy into anything Dave says right now. He clearly had a source (or sources) at some point, but my guess is they dropped his ass. I know I wouldn't put my job on the line by leaking stuff to someone as volatile as Dave. I hope he's right, but this seems like him fishing based on the increase in Quintana rumors over the past few days. Honestly, the only the person I trust with this kind of stuff is raBBit. Rock Raines lost his source and I can't even remember the last nugget of substance bucket provided. -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 07:38 AM) Shoo Texas, shoo.. go away Yeah, kind of funny that they keep floating Profar & Gallo as legit trade pieces. I also found the Yankees, Astros, & Pirates packages to be pretty bad. -

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb.com/21...l?client=safari I didn't see this anywhere, but thought it was worth sharing. Here are 8 Quintana trade proposals by the great Phil Rogers: **Please note that many of these proposals are absolutely horrific** CHC: Happ, Candelario, Zagunis NYY: Frazier, Tate, Williams, Solak PIT: Meadows, Holmes, Frazier HOU: Tucker, Reed, Gustave TEX: Profar, Gallo, Ibanez, Nicholas COL: Rodgers, Tapia, Murphy STL: Weaver, Bader, Kelly LAD: De Leon, Verdugo, Buehler, Barnes -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Chicago White Sox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The fact that no one has come out and disputed Pittsburgh's interest suggests this has legs. The most we have seen is Heyman saying it was a longshot and then almost immediately going back on that claim. With the Yankees rumor, we had both national and local media guys disputing it that same day. IMO, there's got to be a reason for all these Quintana rumors popping up recently and it's very possible the reason is because talks have advanced in the past few days. -
Also logical landing places for Abreu/Frazier/Cabrera
Chicago White Sox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) The problem is those guys have about zero surplus value. Frazier will probably be a 3 WAR player next year getting paid like 1.5 to 2 WAR player, so he certainly should have some surplus value. He is also a good enough player to warrant a QO and will likely return the acquiring team a draft pick. We should most definitely be able to get something of value for him. The Giants seem like a good fit to me. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) If the trade happens the Sox would have 4 #1 caliber pitchers in the rotation Rodon, Giolito, Kopech, Glasnow and a couple more not far behind Lopez/dunning/hansen. They would not need to score much. In a couple of years they would have one of the better staffs if even half of them work out. I think with the addition of Glasnow, you'd have to feel pretty confident in our ability to develop an elite staff within a few years as you mentioned above. If you can also get Bell & Newman, you'd also have the makings of an interesting offensive core IMO. I may be alone in this, but I'd consider moving Moncada to CF if we acquired Newman. 1B: Bell 2B: Newman SS: Anderson 3B: ? Michalczewki LF: ? Fisher/Call CF: Moncada RF: ? Basabe/Call DH: ? C: Collins Obviously we'd still have a lot of question marks, but we'd also have a lot of chips we could cash in between now and next offseason that could add more positional prospects to the mix. And it's not like we'd have to look for up the middle type players, corner guys should be much easier to find. While Meadows still makes the most sense, I think a Glasnow, Bell, & Newman package makes a ton of sense for us. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:16 PM) Bell >= Tucker Glasnow >>> Martes Newman So Pirates I guess. 4 player returns are very enticing though. Yeah, I view it pretty much the same way and assume most would take that Pirates package. But if you think Reed is a legit bounce back candidate, I think that Astros package is pretty decent. Like I said previously though, I really like Tucker and think he could be a top 20 guy as soon as next year. -

Which deal would you guys prefer? 1) Glasnow, Bell, & Newman 2) Martes, Tucker, Reed, & Stubbs I would definitely take #1, but would be open to #2 as I'm higher on Tucker than most here. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) Just that the BoSox and Cleveland looks clearly better than them in pitching and closed gap in offense and are not going away next 3 years. Do you really want to bet on your SP health and prospects or make yourself as competitive as possible? I think the Astros are insane if they go into the season with their current rotation. Keuchel may not be the Cy Young type they thought he was and McCullers can't seem to stay healthy. Sure, if everything works out their rotation has the potential to be pretty good, but we all saw what happened last year when one of more things go wrong. It would be foolish to invest so much on the position player side only to ignore their pitching staff. But then again, when you consider someone like Kyle Tucker an untouchable (if the rumors are true), apparently prospect hoarding is more important than winning it all. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) I remember it being like 8/160. I could be wrong, but I thought they offered 10/$190M, which was the second best offer but $60M less than what the Rangers ultimately offered. Pretty wild that Boras was able to get Texas to bid against themselves and pay that much of a premium. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) I have a feeling the hold up is less about Meadows and more about the Sox wanting Bell in the deal while the Pirates would rather include Glasnow. The lack of denial regarding Meadows involvement in talks or labeling of him as untouchable is a pretty telling sign that he's in as the prize. This may be a case where the Sox have to break their rule about not moving multiple trade chips in one deal. Specifically giving them Frazier to play 1b (and mash 40 HR) to offset the loss of Bell. I am 100% fine with this by the way. I'm not sure the Pirates have the money to afford both Quintana & Frazier and adding a 1B option on a one year deal doesn't make a lot of sense for them IMO. -

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) Heyman on MLB tonight right now. Says Glasgow plus others would have to go to the Sox, but not Meadows or Keller. So nothing new or dramatic. Glasnow, Bell, Newman, & Diaz works for me. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) Why not? They are basically trying to lose next year anyway. It's not like they have anyone else to audition there. Well we could start Tilson & Liriano in CF & RF and then DH Avi. Just depends which guys you want to give at-bats to. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) As of now, there's room for both in the OF. Assuming no more moves, this how I think our lineup would shake out: 1B: Abreu 2B: Lawrie SS: Anderson 3B: Frazier LF: Cabrera CF: Tilson/Liriano RF: Garcia DH: Davidson Not that I agree with it, but I think they plan on giving Avi one last shot in RF. And with Melky unlikely to be moved, I don't see an everyday spot for both Tilson & Liriano.
