May 30th Game Thread: ChiSox vs. BoSox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Sure, even Tyler Danish looked okay despite his early game struggles. The problem is that none of those guys (other than possibly Dunning) profile as anything more than back of the rotation guys. Dunning was projected by most scouts to be a 3/4 type of guy, at least. But unless he can really develop/refine his secondary pitches, he's going to struggle. He got away with mostly his fastball in the SALLY League, but then hit a wall with better hitters in Advanced A. Adams has never lived up to that early athletic potential and "frame" projection...in terms of increasing his velocity from 89-92 into the mid 90's. Q now with a 5.60 ERA That has been FIVE innings with 4 or more runs given up this year, and TWO IN A SINGLE GAME. Just think he buckled under the pressure of facing Sale, and you wouldn't have predicted that with how cool he's been for most of his major league career with the Sox. Hansen doesn't profile as a TOR starter?

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) Well, would you sacrifice your farm system and risk your personal livelihood on "he's got a nice fWAR"? Chris Sale might be a nut job with all the mental toughness of a college student, but when he is on, he is on. No one better. Quintana was above average but never that. We expected too much, and now we will get even less. Would I have traded Tucker & Martes for Quintana this past offseason if I was Luhnow? Most definitely. They have a window over the next four years and Q would have fit in perfectly. It's a risk you have to take if you're the Astros when you're talking about landing a durable, consistent TOR starter. The problem is this poor stretch will always be etched in the back of GMs' minds. Look what happens when Quintana's elite command goes to the s***ter. I think his performance will rebound at some point, but his reputation may not. Teams were always skeptical of his TOR status and this won't help matters.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) Between Q, Rodon, Giolito (until recently), Lopez, Fulmer...it's a mystifying season for almost all of the Sox pitching prospects other than Kopech. And this game's on a 4+ hour pace. Good god, it has been slow. Not 100% true. Dunning, Hansen, Adams, Guerrero, & Cooper have done well. And Lopez was pitching very well before his recent meltdown. But obviously some big dissapointments with the guys you mentioned.

May 30th Game Thread: ChiSox vs. BoSox
QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 30, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) I love how people just criticize just for the hell of it. No one knows what teams offered. Hahn was selling high. ITS WHAT HE SUPPOSED TO DO!!!! Some just wanna trade to make a trade Selling high? Quintana's value has plummeted. As I said all offseason there was a ton more downside risk than there was potential upside gain. I obviously don't know what was offered this past winter, but given the overall lack of quality starting pitching it's hard to believe someone wouldn't have offered fair value. My concern (which we'll never know for sure) is that Hahn did not value Quintana appropriately and underestimated the considerable risk of holding him. And the worst part is if team's didn't think Quintana was a TOR starter before, he's going to have a hell of a time convincing GMs & scouts he is one now after that disaster of a season.

57 pitches to get through two innings. What a f***ing disaster.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Been gone for a while. He has next year to rebuild his value Perhaps, but we're at the point of diminishing returns in terms of control. Next year will be absolutely critical for him and we better hope there is a good market. Still hard to believe they couldn't get fair value for him this offseason.

And that's the sound of his trade value slipping away.

Sale will always be one of my favorites, but I hope his ass implodes tonight.

How would you rank Renteria so far?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 29, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) Bumped, because he AGAIN called for a bunt with 2 strikes... this has to stop. This is where you think a front office steps in and provides some data to demonstrate how stupid it is to bunt with two strikes.

Why are we bunting with two strikes? I love what Renteria brings to the table overall, but good god his love for bunting sucks.

Most Airlines just don't seem to care
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) https://www.inc.com/chris-matyszczyk/united...ul.html?ref=yfp United Airlines President Says If You're Uncomfortable In Coach, It's Your Own Fault The airline appears to have no sympathy with your discomfort. What a terrible article and an absolutely pathetic click-bait title. Did you even read it Caulfield?

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 29, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) If you are a right-hander topping out at 92, your control better be damn good and you better have 2-3 quality pitch offerings. Topping out at 92 is much different than averaging 92.

Which surprisingly productive role player do you believe in the most?
I voted for Leury, but am beyond happy with all three at this point. I do think Sanchez will be the odd man up in a few months, but should still be able to get plenty of playing time as the reserve infielder. What's really impressive is how intriguing our projected 2018 lineup looks at the moment. 1B: Abreu 2B: Moncada SS: Anderson 3B: Davidson/Delmonico LF: Garcia CF: Garcia RF: Garcia DH: Delmonico/Davidson C: Narvarez While there are still question marks, there aren't any wasted spots IMO. And if let's say someone like Willy Garcia struggles and doesn't deserve a shot, we have a ton of flexibility with the rest of that lineup and could leverage some of our depth with guys Sanchez, Saladino, Tilson, Engel, and maybe even someone like Danny Hayes. Obviously we need to continue targeting potential impact bats like Robert & Collins and making it a priority, but I pretty damn happy how things have gone so far on the positional side. If we can get two legit starters out of Davidson & the Garcia trio, that speeds up rebuild considerably.

I AM WHITE/AMERICAN PRIVILEGE
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) 1) The US will not thrive economically without the drive and determination of another generation of immigrants to achieve the American Dream...we're already going in the wrong direction on that one. You can't be pro American and anti immigration simultaneously. There's no law stating that we can't select the very best from those immigrant groups seeking citizenship or work rights in America. Continuing immigration from Asia brings more benefits than it creates "obstacles" for whites. 2) https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexandratalty...food-institute/ Millennials, particularly white millennials, need to stop blaming the great financial/housing crisis, Bush, Obama, liberals, Muslims, feminists, George Soros, the rising costs of college education, health care, 9/11 or minorities/Affirmative Action for denying them opportunities to succeed. They should be investing in the stock market or starting their own businesses...they are saving at a relatively high rate of 20%, but it's (according to almost all surveys) for travel/tourism/vacations, eating out, high tech gadgets and generally enjoying life, certainly moreso than buying into the idea of starting a family or making a down payment on a house. Basically, that sense of entitlement needs to disappear. These last two generations never had to confront the idea of military service...are our lives really that difficult compared to our grandparents' and greatgrandparents' generations? Caulfield, I appreciate everything you bring to this forum, but good god you are insane at times.

5/28 Games
There are a good six or seven guys who should be moved up from Kannapolis to high A. Hansen, Morrison, Booker, Fisher, Remillard, & Zavala have no business being in low A IMO (I get why Zavala is there though). And I could see an argument made for Roman & a few of the other pitchers as well. Getz really needs to push these guys up in the coming weeks.

May 28th Game Thread: Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers
QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) His fundamentals are below average at SS. Range is great but is sloppy on the routine play. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 28, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) I heard he was pretty bad defensively in the minors. Then when he came up last year I couldn't believe how good he played. The way he's been playing so far this season is more of what I expected of him. The Sox defense is really going to take a hit when Moncada replaces Sanchez at 2B. Yikes. He's 23 years old. To think he's a complete product defensively is crazy to me, especially when he has all the tools necessary to be a strong defender and demonstrated that as recently as last season.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Hahn supposedly told Stoney his ideal preference for 11th pick is college hitter From a need perspective, that makes the most sense. And I have a feeling they take a high-schooler in the 2nd.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 28, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I won't go that far. Dude was really good last season. Bad defensive seasons happen. This...totally this. I can't fathom how anyone would automatically assume Anderson would be this poor of a defender going forward. Like you said, he was awesome last year and the metrics agreed.

Sale Versus The White Sox
Doesn't Sale pitch pretty poorly when he's amped up?
