  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:24 PM) Wonder if adding Robertson and eating some money would help land both in a Q deal? Red Sox are not paying a premium in prospects for cash savings. And Robertson is nowhere near good enough to warrant an elite prospect being included.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) I can see only one for Quintana but both for Sale. I agree with this. Don't think they'll give up both for Q.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) I think that it is a common fallacy among fans to assume the extent that previous trades for given player archetypes "set the market" in the MLB. This is due to two factors: (1) the buyer is who determines the maximum price paid, since the deal isn't made if the seller's demands aren't met, and (2) every time a deal is made, it removes a team from the running in future deals, and the team that just got removed just so happened to be the one that was willing to pay the highest price for the similar player. The Red Sox are not removed from adding a top of the rotation starter because of Pomeranz. In fact, I'd argue it's still their biggest need and one that DD would love to address. Whether they'll end up paying that price remains to be seen, but no way the Sox should accept anything less. Given the lack high-end starters in the league right now, someone will pay a ridiculous price eventually.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) No chance we'd get both Moncada and Benintendi, but either is perfectly reasonable as a centerpiece if the other pieces are strong. Benintendi is going to be an absolute monster. The contact rate is good, the plate discipline is good, and I've seen the power with my own eyes -- he played our team the year he was drafted, and hit two homers, one of which is the only ball I've ever seen clear the fence, the road, and land in the water outside the Staten Island Ferry. The pop is legit. For Sale? If Chapman & Pomerez are worth top 20 prospects (plus some for Chapman), you're telling me Sale isn't worth two top 10 prospects? I'm definitely not dealing Sale to the Red Sox without both Moncada & Benintendi in the deal. Anything less is a huge undersell IMO.
  5. Anyone hear the Heyman interview on Mulley & Hanley this morning? My Cubs buddy claims he said that Quintana gets you half of what Sale does. Can anyone verify that? If true, then definitely deal Sale and hold onto Q.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) I get really frustrated when it's time for us to sell. When it was Peavy, that he was 1.5 control we thought it would be such an asset to get more back. Then what did we hear back? "teams were looking for a cheaper option" When it was Rios "Just a rental, shouldn't expect much back" I feel like when push comes to shove we'll hear "Too good for the market, teams went after cheaper options" I'm getting a bad feeling the Sox are going to f*** this up. Not sure if I'm just overreacting to the Sale nonsense yesterday or Robertson's horrific 9th today, but I'm not overly optimistic right now. Watching other sellers acting swiftly and getting premium returns isn't helping matters.
  7. Was talking with a Cubs buddy earlier and saying it's absolutely crazy that Pomerez nets a top 20 prospect and Chapman nets a top 30 prospect. Sox better not f*** this up. The market is insane right now for pitching and we have a chance to accelerate our rebuilding efforts exponentially if we make the right deals.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) You mean "you think he will fold." Yeah that's what I think he meant, but I still don't understand his post even with the edits.
  9. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) Wins matter for the manager. Ultimately, that is how he's judged. A good organization would have a front office that tells their coaching not overuse their closer that they plan on trading in the next week. Robertson doesn't have a rubber arm and this was just asking for trouble.
  10. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) Dude calm down... Why? I should be cool with some dude relentlessly trolling this board? f*** that, it's beyond pathetic and the dude should be called out for it.
  11. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) Its clear this organizations mistreatment of Sale is having an effect on Robertson. Heads must roll within the front office. Dude, get the f*** off this site. Who spends this much time trolling a message board? You're entire existence is a f***ing joke.
  12. I'll say this much, we desperately need to get rid of Robertson, no matter what the return is. It honestly won't take much of stuff and/or command decline for this guy to become an albatross.
  13. Robertson really upping that trade value.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Of course the group included Sale I think Eaton is the problem to be honest.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Wait, weren't you just saying that we had no chance of adding talent around this team now, why would this only work if you trade away your best players? WTF? Patc just said we wouldn't be able to win for 5-7 years if we don't keep one of Sale or Quintana because we wouldn't have an ace. I'm saying that one specific need can be filled over the next several seasons by blowing it up. That doesn't change the fact we can't fill numerous needs over the next two or three years before Sale leaves us via free agency if we hold onto our pitching assets. Not sure what you're getting at here...
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Because then the team will not have a World Series shot for 5-7 years with no proven top of the rotation pitcher. they need to keep one. Why can't we draft, trade, or sign one eventually? If we have top 5 picks for a few years, we'll have a great chance at landing one. And if you deal Sale and Quintana, you're probably targeting a potential TOR starter in one of the deals. Plus we have Rodon and Alec Hansen (wild card) with ace potential already in the system.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) Things change fast in baseball, and maybe the Sox wouldn't be a dumpster fire for long. Let's just say you are able to get Moncada, Benindendi and Betts for Sale (maybe you add a reliever). You've immediately plugged three major league holes and could compete as soon as 2018, with Quintana. The Red Sox aren't giving up Betts in a package for Sale, it's simply not happening now or in the offseason. Maybe they'd consider it in a one for one deal, but then what is the point for us? Moncada, Benintendi, & Devers are the guys we should be targeting. Those are three elite position playing prospects, with the first two being nearly major league ready. I'd want a couple more young pitchers in the deal, such as Kopech, Rodriguez, or Owens. Get me a package like that, and I could care less about getting one of the B's back. That's an absolute haul and one you'd be crazy to pass up if you're the Sox.
  18. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/here-are...ris-sale-trade/ This was also a great argument for not trading Sale. It's the best contract of value in baseball. I'd wait another year. If he wins 20 without Robin messing it up the value could be even higher. His value will never be higher than it is right now. He's already proven himself as one of the best starters in baseball and another great season doesn't add anything. However, his value will start to dip as team control over him decreases. The time to deal him is now or in the offseason, there is no point in waiting another year or so and risk an injury.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Entertaining to see Julie Dicaro melting down about Cubs likely getting Chapman. What do you mean?
  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) I agree, I think Q's extra year of control is equal to sale's perceived dominance, and if both get moved the packages will rival one another. The question becomes do you move Eaton and Abreu as well or can they anchor your future core with Collins and Anderson. Eaton will be 29/30 if they sell off and we compete in 2 to 3 years Abreu will be 31/32. IMO, you hold onto to Eaton & Abreu for now. Eaton has a ton of control left and can always be moved at a later date. And I wouldn't deal Abreu during a down season, we're better off starting off 2017 with him at 1B/DH and hoping he rebounds.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Looks like Chris Sale will start Thursday against the Cubs. https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/757255525524508675 Awesome!
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) Levine mentioned the Nationals as maybe having interest. They have enough prospects to make a deal. To me, the only teams with a realistic shot at Sale are the Red Sox, Dodgers, Pirates, Nationals, Astros, & Rangers. The Cubs obviously have the talent too, but don't see us doing a deal with them. Red Sox Moncada Benintendi Devers Kopech E. Rodriguez Dodgers Urias De Leon Bellinger Verdugo Holmes Pirates Glasnow Meadows Bell Newman Keller Nationals Giolito Turner Robles Lopez Fedde Astros Bregman Martes Musgrove Tucker Reed Rangers Mazara Gallo Brinson Ortiz Tate
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Source: "It'd take Betts, Benintendi and then some for the #RedSox to acquire Chris Sale from the #WhiteSox" https://t.co/vfMDBLvUFJ https://twitter.com/barstoolWSD/status/757208003057778689 So one guy says it will take your best five prospects, another guy says it will take Mookie Betts, Benintendi, plus. Given that the Red Sox have arguably the best top 5 in baseball, that's quite a bit of variation right there. Honestly, I think all these rumors are bulls***. And as much as I believe BarstoolWSD has a legit source (track record speaks for itself), I'm also not convinced he doesn't make s*** up from time to time. His reporting on the Sale stuff yesterday was sketchy, almost implying Sale was being moved at one point to the saying the "uniform story is BS". I know he was drunk, but I'm going to take whatever he says on this subject with a huge grain of salt.
  24. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 12:51 AM) We all recall when Sale had some angry words for Kenny Williams during the LaRoach incident and blamed KW and KW alone for LaRoach/LaRoach Jr. leaving. I hope this is not the case but the possibility that there may be a racial element to Sale's dislike for Kenny Williams has crossed my mind. It also could just be some residual hurt feelings and bitterness over the LaRoach affair. Either way this kind of behavior/insubordination seems to indicate Sale intentionally did something stupid because he wants out. Horrible post.
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 12:12 AM) But this makes it clear Robin needs to go. No more inmates running the asylum s***. 100% agree with this. Robin may be a great guy, but he's not a major league manager. Time to move on.
