Also, Shuck better not be batting 5th & Rollins better not be DHing again. -

White Sox Acquire James Shields
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not sure why people keep complaining that this move doesn't address the offense. The amount of talent we gave up and money we took on doesn't prevent us from adding a big bat. Hahn is simply addressing holes as opportunities present themselves. If Shields can be an effective #4 starter, then this move was well worth it considering the cost and what we're currently getting out of that spot. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 09:15 PM) Hahn mentioned in Dan Hayes' column the potential to receive a comp pick if Shields opts-out. Does he know something about the new CBA that we don't? I don't think they are eligible for a comp pick because he wasn't on the team for a full season. Let's hope there's a upcoming CBA change we don't know about, otherwise, that's incredibly worrisome he doesn't know the current rules. -

f*** this s***. I've had enough White Sox baseball for one day. No need to watch our 37 year old, 5 foot seven, 175 pound DH strike out or groundout in the 9th. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) He's just not a CF. That's on Robin. He's also not a #5 hitter, which is on Robin as well. Good thing that won't come to bite is in the ass this inning. -

It's really sad that the front office thought we could get away without adding another proven bat this offseason. Any of Cespedes, Fowler, or Desmond would look damn good in our lineup right now, but instead we went cheap at both SS & OF and didn't even addres the DH spot. It was buyer's market and we shopped in the clearance section. -

It's sad when the thought of scoring 2 runs feels like an insurmountable feat. -

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) To be fair, the lineup Pelfrey's facing is significantly worse, but hey trade for another pitcher, Hahn! You mean the lineup with J.B. Shuck batting 5th & Jimmy Rollins DHing?! -

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) This lineup needs a real LH bat They'll get one before the deadline. The good news is they only used $5M of their financial flexibility and still have all their top trade chips. -

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Done deal. Players being informed according to Cotillo. We should get details shortly then. Really think it might be Erik Johnson & Fernando Tatis Jr. If the Padres eat half his salary, that's a good deal for the Sox. -

QUOTE (chisox802 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) I am probably one of the few people that would not mind Shields. As long as we don't pay too much of his contract. The guy will pitch better than he has with SD. I feel the same way if the trade is on our terms. The words "compelling offer" scares me quite a bit. -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) This Cubs team in this National league should have a couple of WS appearances. I'm not guaranteeing it, but we all need to get over the Cubs real fast. They're not going away. Cubs aren't going away, but willhave their best shot this year and next in a weak NL and Arrieta still under contract.

official: White Sox purchase contract of Jason Coats
Chicago White Sox replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's official, Coats has been recalled. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) There's little risk for one of those cellar-dwelling NL teams to stick him on a roster for one year and see if they can fix his mechanical issues...stranger things have happened. Remember, we did the same thing with Nieto at catcher and have nothing to show for it. Did Nieto really have more upside than Hawkins still carries today? I don't think so. With the continued success of Thompson and Semien, other teams might start paying a bit more attention to some of our more athletic players and figure out ways to maximize their ability. High first round draft picks are simply embarrassing for GM's to cast aside until there's no other choice, like they did with Jared Mitchell after giving him about 3 too many chances. Catcher is an incredibly scarce position, corner outfielder is not. I do agree there is some chance the ego factor could be at play and cause Hahn to protect him, although I still feel that would be the wrong decision. Courtney Hawkins will never be a good major leaguer IMO and there's no reason to waste a 40 man spot on him.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) They protected Walker and Mitchell for quite awhile, didn't they? I would still be surprised if they just gave up on Hawkins...maybe next year. Not protecting someone does not mean they're giving up them. Like I said, if Hawkins continues to strike out at a 35% clip, which would be worse than his first year in AA, there would be absolutely no risk in losing him. Walker & Mitchell at least provided plus speed & defense, so there was hypothetically a chance some team would snag them in the Rule 5 and use them as a bench piece. Hawkins simply doesn't have the skillset to be a Rule 5 pick.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) All that's fine and good, but there's just no way the Brewers would accept that package. And there's also no way JR would authorize taking on the Braun contract, so it's a moot point. Why wouldn't JR authorize taking on the Braun contract? And you're probably right that the Brewers wouldn't take that package, although I'd argue that the Sox taking on Braun's entire contract might be enticing to them. Back problems are always a concern and not having a DH spot as a backup option is pretty risky. Given how he's produced so far, I think they will be very motivated to move him while there a few teams still interested and willing to take a gamble on him.
