QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Let's go over the final spot with Saldino, Shuck, and backup C being 3 of the bench spots. Sanchez- Great defense, average offense Sands- Worse than Avi in the OF, pretty good stick Ishikawa- LH bat, plays 1B, has had a good spring Davidson- Mashing this spring, but can it continue? Pretty good defense at 3B, can he play 1B? While I haven't seen Sands play this spring, I find it hard to believe he's a worse defender than Avi.

I'm not a huge fan of West coast games, but will take the ability to watch an opening day game live on TV than being forced to watch delayed on DVR or follow on GameCast. Also, we don't have a day off following opening day this year, which is also a huge plus. Nothing worse than waiting months for your first real taste of baseball only to have to wait two more days for your second serving.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) And we appreciate that. https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/714098886101479424 I will never understand why they passed on Rodon. You're talking about a guy a year earlier who was the most hyped college pitcher since Strasburg & Prior. I don't care if his agent was Boras and he was coming off a subpar season, taking Kolek over him was an idiotic move then and looks even worse now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) Before the arguments begin, a public service announcement and reminder - how much the team is worth is not the same as revenue, nor are either the same as money available to pay for things. They also made $20M in OP, which suggests they had some money to spend even with a small revenue decline. And with LaRoche's retirement, they should be sitting a nice pile of cash.

Fulmer "putting himself on the radar"
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) If Fulmer is that good this spring put him in the starting rotation right now. The bottom of the rotation scares me to death. If Fulmer is better than our 4th + 5th starters plug him into the rotation right now. I try not to take these exhibition games too seriously but Matt Latos is pitching today for the first time this spring. He needs tp step up and have a good outing. The team needs him to perform good this season. The 2016 season will be determined by how the back of the rotation performs. If the 4th + 5th starters do well this year I believe the team can get into the 2016 Playoffs. Best case scenario for Fulmer is coming up shortly after the service time deadline and ensuring an extra year of control. This is exactly what we did with Rodon, plus I'm sure the Sox want to give Latos & Danks an extended look before throwing in the towel. I may be in the minority here, but I fully expect a Fulmer call up this year and prior to Septembet. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 07:10 AM) Any chance that Saladino start vs LHP and Rollins vs RHP, at least for the first few weeks to see how they're doing? I'm certain that's the plan. Saladino should also get a start or two a week at 3B & 2B. That's plenty of playing time for a guy who still needs to prove himself with the bat. If he does, then I could see him and Rollins flip-flopping roles pretty quickly.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 07:25 AM) Good gracious, you're bringing out your "we need proven veterans and I hate young players" diatribe for the hapless Loney? LOL. Go get 'em, big guy. I didn't realize Loney was the only external option. And I love prospects, but I don't hand jobs to the fringe ones. The guys you listed can not be counted on to fill LaRoche's role.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) The Sox just got the break of the decade with Laroche retiring. Trading for Loney, who is like the BAD Laroche, would be absolutely mad. Loney is awful. They can fill the spot in-house. There are enough candidates...Davidson/Coats/Sands---one of those guys should be able to hold up.k And some guys should be taking balls at 1B...not sure why they haven't been all along. You're obsession with bad/fringe prospects knows no end. What makes you think Matt Davidson could hold up at the major league level? A handful of spring training at-bats? Definitely ignore his two consecutive horrific seasons in AAA. Coats has put up solid at best numbers in a minor league bandbox and his prospect rankings suports that. He's a potential 4th OF and nothing more. And counting on Sands to play an important role against RHP (i.e. LaRoche's role) would be incredibly foolish based on his prior prospect status and major league track record. None of these guys solve our need, but because they are young and/or cheap you'd be willing to give them a bunch of playing time they don't deserve.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) The bottom line is that our current understanding of how best to educate and socialize our children in this country is not exactly producing results which are unquestionable or unchallengeable. When you consider that he might only see his son 7-8 months of the year if he didn't bring him on the road with him, I cannot possibly flatter myself, nor do I think anyone else should so flatter themselves, as to believe they might better understand what is better for his son and his upbringing than his own father. Lol at this post. You will literally take the opposing position on any debate. And I actually think you couldn't get any lower than giving CoolManJoe the ok to bang a high school girl. Well done sir, keep fighting the good fight!

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 07:37 AM) finally some one in the media is defending the sox and kw. i complain on the sox and the FO, but come on, they are innocent here. Most of the media is defending the Sox.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) I just want to know what changed from last year to this year other than him playing terrible? Was Adam putting his kid over rehabbing his back? And why on March 15th in his second spring training with the team? Again, I think it's weird he would have that type of access, but they allowed it last year, and they put up a locker for the kid, why now? There's two weeks left. They could have just got through the two weeks with the understanding that the regular season will be different this year. And if that was the case (a change in the regular season access), then the Sox did nothing wrong, and LaRoche has the prerogative to walk away--as weird as that may be. Why is implementing a policy change mid-spring wrong in the first place? LaRoche has clearly been abusing the "kid friendly clubhouse" policy more significantly this camp and the Sox have finally placed a focus this spring on preparation and readiness for the regular season. Also, with the amount of personnel change this offseason, there is no doubt some people complained about constantly having a kid in the clubhouse. The right choice was to end this ridiculousness immedietely. The Sox did absolutely nothing wrong here.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) This story is dumb. Not only is LaRoche a giant baby, his relationship with his son is weird, almost cult like behavior. Where's LaRoches daughter? Does she go to school? Why isn't she in the clubhouse constantly? 100% this. And no matter what the Sox told him, it's selfish as f*** to bring your kid into the clubhouse every single day. I have never been a big LaRoche fan, but I find this whole Drake situation both ridiculous and troubling for the entire family.

QUOTE (coco1997 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) I don't really understand the Morneau talk. As I see it, with LaRoche gone, the Sox now have four outfielders fighting for three starting spots, plus the DH position, and that's not counting whoever makes the team as the fourth outfielder (Shuck or Sands). So that would be Jackson in CF, Eaton in RF/LF and either Cabrera or Garcia in RF/LF with the other acting as the team's primary DH. Unless Avi gets moved, where would Morneau fit on the roster? Avi needs more than a hot spring to deserve uncontested playing time. Plus we desperately need another left-handed bat to break up all the righties in our lineup. LaRoche may not have been a sure thing, but he filled both of those needs. Hahn has to add a left-handed bat before opening day or we're really playing with fire. J.B. Shuck is definitely not the answer either.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Maybe it's time to see if Davidson can take advantage of an opportunity? What exactly has Davidson done to deserve a major league opportunity?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) If Chicago could get over its Napoleon complex, people would come to realize that ketchup is good on a hot dog. Yup, nothing better on a hot dog than ketchup and grilled onions.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 07:03 AM) Melky to DH with Garcia and Eaton in the corners is the team's best everyday lineup. LaRoche is garbage and should only be used as a PH and to give a guy the day off every so often. The less games he sees action, the better for the Sox. I'd much rather give LaRoche six weeks against RHP before writing him off, especially when the alternative is Garcia. I get Adam was terrible last year, but at least he's put up good offensive seasons before and as recently as 2014. The same can't be said for Avi and I'm not sure why some posters are eager to give him another 600 PAs in 2016. He needs to either force playing time or be the go-to guy once LaRoche/Melky fail or get hurt. He definitely should not be handed a starting job.
-
I still think we take two backup OFs to start the season. I think having a guy who can platoon with LaRoche (Avi or Sands) is far more important than having a second backup IF like Sanchez.
-
I think 35 seems about right. I'd say 15 for Melky & 10 apiece for Eaton & Jackson.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) How is comparing these guy's ridiculous. Lawrie is coming in here having career highs on certain stats and when Laroche came over was a bit more consistent producer in his certain stats. The issue is Sox need Laroche to desperately bounce back and Lawrie to continue to be healthy and putting up numbers. Plain in simple sox upgraded this year but still need guys to produce consistently. Really honestly sox are going to need to score at least 700 runs since every team that made the playoffs last year scored at least that amout. Because LaRoche was 10 years older and switching both leagues and position. If you're concerned Lawrie might not hit 20 HRs because of health that's more than fair, but LaRoche's failures last year have absolutely no bearing on Lawrie.
-
QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) I'd say LaRoche had more red flags than Lawrie with the poor LHP splits and move from NL. Don't forget a 10 year age difference. Comparing Lawrie to LaRoche is beyond ridiculous.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Theoretically they could potentially send Garcia to AAA since he is working on a new stance/mechanics or I guess trade him. I would be perfectly fine with Garcia starting the year in AAA and Sands serving as LaRoche's platoon partner.

f*** yes!! Does Eaton move to RF or LF?
