  1. Orioles fans think Joey Ortiz and a guy in their teens is a fair deal for Cease? What do you guys think? Is that a move that Getz should make?
  2. Football and baseball barely overlap, so not sure why that matters at all. And good owners invest in their product and give their consumers a reason for consuming it. Jerry refuses to do any of that and then has minions blame the fans for not being able to spend a dollar when you only have 50 cents. It’s hard to imagine any replacement owner could be worse than Jerry and the Sox are a potential sleeping giant with the right person at the very top.
  3. They reinforce how bad he was at his previous job.
  4. What you hearing Pal? I’ve been meaning to message you. These Whit Merrifield rumors have broken my holiday spirit, so please tell me it’s not him.
  5. I hope we lose +100 games just so I can hear Getz brag about how we were the best defensive team in the league and ignore the fact we sucked a giant fucking you know what.
  6. Lol…Bartolo is definitely top 3! Footlong Comiskey Dog is definitely the worst though. And I agree, would be great to get at least one savage in a Cease trade. Getting Hjerstad from the Orioles is what I’d love to see.
  7. He’s an incredible tank commander…fire him in the off-season.
  8. Real talk, but what would the high end pitchers (non Ohtani) be getting on a two year deal in this market? $80M total? Cease as a 4 win pitcher at $20M would basically have $60M of surplus value. And that’s before factoring in a scarcity premium and some value attributed to a likely compensation pick at the end of his deal.
  9. Lol…I do enjoy the fact that Balta actually believes two months of Giolito would command the same return as two years of Cease just four months later.
  10. Heyman confirmed Nola turned down more money to stay in Philadelphia, which means the market for top end SP is officially insane balls.
  11. An extra year and $22M more than what MLBTR and FG were projecting. And Nola wanted to return to Philadelphia, so it’s possible he took a little less. @Balta1701 - You still think it’s a buyer’s market?
  12. Getting the equivalent of a compensation pick wouldn’t be selling low? We’re talking about what’s effectively a 3rd round pick.
  13. Jordan Montgomery has been less productive overall than Cease the past three years and MLBTR projects he will get 6/$150M while Fangraphs’ crowdsourcing predicts 5/$105M. This is for a 31 year SP who strikes out less than 8 per nine innings and ranked 56th in Stuff+ over the past three seasons. Cease is a full three years younger and ranked 5th in Stuff+ during this same period. Despite a down 2023, I think he’d get a similar contract at minimum and probably even more IMO. Modern front offices would kill to have Cease in their rotation.
  14. I’m pricing Cease like a #2 starter. The ask if Cease just repeated his 2022 season would be substantially higher.
  15. I think your valuations are completely out of whack if you think that’s the package Gilbert would command. And Burnes may be slightly less expensive, than Cease but my guess is it wouldn’t be substantially less.
  16. I’ve never met another person whose entire evaluation is to take the previous season and assume that continues on forever. I also don’t know how anyone could be using ERA as their primary pitching metric in this day & age. Secondly, what is a top 100 prospect worth? Are they all worth the same and if your answer is no, then what type of top 100 prospect is Cease worth? Also, why was Giolito with 2 months of control worth a legit 50 FV prospect, but two years of Cease plus a potential compensation pick is worth the same? If you say it’s because of the “market”, who are all these free agent SPs with legit TOR ceilings that will be affordable to teams like the Orioles? Finally, how do you know there wasn’t a strong deal last year? There are rumors that Hahn was asking for Jackson Holiday until very late in the process (i.e. not serious negotiating). Perhaps Elias made an offer that would be to Getz’s liking now? It wouldn’t be the first time two teams couldn’t agree to a trade at the deadline and then for it to happen in the off-season (Sale, Lynn, etc).
  17. You don’t think Baltimore specifically will or just don’t think he’s worth that?
  18. Why not both? Kjerstad + Ortiz + Povich for Cease. Who says no?
  19. That Bartolo guy is a fraud in all honesty, but I’m sure everyone on the major league roster is available for the right price. What I don’t get is who would want to acquire Eloy & Colas in the same package (don’t think Moncada is tradable without eating money). I do hope they’re pursing Kjerstad in a Cease trade though. Damn would it be nice to have a young LH power hitter to build this lineup around along with Montgomery.
  20. I think you wait and see how a Cease trade plays out. Might get another middle infielder there.
  21. Soroka is a free agent after the 2024 season. Shewmake has two options left.
  22. He’s been bad for so long I just don’t see the point.
  23. Or Padres. Feels like those orgs are always doing these type of deals.
