  1. It’s wild how more insane these posts are actually getting day by day.
  2. Bat .260? What’s his OBP and ISO? Defense in RF will be better no doubt, but if he doesn’t draw enough bases and slug some then it’s a move that doesn’t really move the needle this year (which really doesn’t matter) and one that could cost us a young arm who could help us wins finally do matter.
  3. I would just say that Eaton was a far better prospect who actually dominated Reno and did so at a younger age. I’m not suggesting that people here are expecting Fletcher to be Spanky Jr., but I do think people are overlooking some of his flaws because of how well a similarly small statured RF prospect worked out for us.
  4. Mena was a super popular prospect here, so not sure where you’re coming up with this theory.
  5. I’m missing the last couple seasons, but you can see a very clear correlation between PY attendance and CY payroll. Jerry will support larger payrolls if he has revenue to bank on, but obviously won’t spend big to greatly enhance a currently bad product and definitely won’t risk massive dollars on star free agents. And to make sure I’m being clear here, Jerry sucks a fat one as owner and I’m not trying to make excuses for him. I just think there is reasons to believe elevated revenue would lead to increased spending.
  6. Jerry isn’t going to be the owner for very long at the 78 if at all, so this is a hypothetical that doesn’t really matter. Regardless, he has proven he will spend money if the attendance is there…he just won’t spend money in hopes of driving attendance (which is obviously dumb).
  7. Just go with Arias, Hampton, Lalane, & Rice. Timeline wise, it probably pushes out legit competitiveness another year, but that probably happens anyways if you assume Robert is dealt next off-season for prospects. Regardless, it’s hard to see a better package than that without holding Cease into the season and it’s very possible that Arias & Lalane’s stock has skyrocketed five months from now.
  8. Good deal for Cubs, but Bellinger will almost certainly opt-out after the coming season.
  9. That does not suggest he’s looking for them to cover the full $4B
  10. Didn’t he say that was the total cost of the first phase of development? I’m pretty sure he’s only asking for funding for the park itself and infrastructure for the general area.
  11. Burdick does have two options FWIW. Personally, I’d rather gamble on this kid as the weak side of a RF platoon than give Pillar the role. But I assume the latter happens, at least to start the season.
  12. A new stadium and a new ownership group aren’t mutually exclusive things. And while the Reinsdorf family will profit off a new stadium, it’s a new owner who will reap the long-term benefits from it. And those benefits would almost certainly result in greater payrolls and hopefully improved competitiveness. There is literally no downside to this other than Jerry “winning” and a bunch of tourists continuing to pay a hotel tax they currently pay today.
  13. Getting revenge by us not ending up with a world class stadium and possibly losing the team? Again, you guys care more about Jerry losing than the Sox winning.
  14. This is literally the dumbest s%*# I have ever read.
  15. What are the terms of this deal exactly? The state isn’t gifting Jerry a stadium, there would be some sort of leasing agreement. How much would the Sox be on the hook for in rent on an annual basis? And who pays for the operating expenses & capital improvements? Unless I missed some major news, we literally know nothing other than the proposed development cost. Maybe avoid the outrage until you see all the actual terms. I’m sure Jerry is looking for a sweetheart deal again, but even if the state ultimately funds this my guess is it will be much more friendly to them vs. what was agreed to with New Comiskey.
  16. What rent would Jerry pay to use the stadium? Also, who gets the revenue from concerts or other events potentially held at the stadium?
  17. I didn’t realize that this many Sox fans care more about Jerry losing than the organization actually winning.
  18. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  19. Wish we could re-fire Hahn after looking at this
  20. I moved back to Chicago in August of 2022 after three years in Nashville and had heard that the city was literally dying from the inside out. As a lifelong Chicagoan prior to this, it pained me to hear that not only were people leaving the city in droves for all sorts of reasons, but that Chicago was no longer a tentpole city that all Americans should visit. We took the kids down to the city for the summer and stayed in a hotel in the thick of things and I was shocked by the amount of tourists in the area hitting up all the major sites. There is no doubt in my mind that if this stadium gets built, it will be a hotspot for tourists who fly in for a long weekend and want to see all the things near the loop. The location is literally a short cab ride away from where people will be staying and/or visiting. I honestly think tourists and casual fans will eat up the experience if done right. I also went to San Diego last year for spring break and hit up their stadium and it has a very similar feel to this proposal. And I was literally blown away about how it’s just part of the city and how the little plaza outside of it was actually a cool way to partake in the game without even being in the park. It was just such a different experience from the Rate or any other stadium that’s in the field of parking lots and I say that as someone who grew tailgating in lots A, B, & C. To me, this is a no doubt game changer for the franchise and while there will be some Sox fans impacted by the location (including myself), I think the greater revenue profile that comes with it will be worth those sacrifices. I also hate Jerry Reinsdorf more than just about anyone, but if he can truly pull this off without any new state money (and carrying forward the existing hotel tax would be ok with me with certain caveats) then I don’t care that that he “wins” again per se. I just want championship level baseball on the south side before my elderly parents leave this world and my 10 & 7 year sons become actual adults who have experienced nothing but losing. This franchise hit a new low point in terms of hope, but this new stadium along with a new ownership group (which a new stadium could help accelerate) would almost certainly transform the franchise and hopefully allow us to finally become a best in class, major market franchise. That’s more important to me than Jerry’s kids inheriting a couple hundred million more upon his death.
