Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
And worrying 8 years down the road has cost us significantly. But that’s the problem when you have so much job security and you got plan out a full decade…lol.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
You may have missed my many posts in the “Fire Rick Hahn” thread. I hate that dude, I hate KW (slightly less than Rick), and I hate Jerry. We are fucked forever with those guys at helm, but until they’re gone I still will hope we do smart things in isolation. Once the determination was made to not extend Lucas, the smart move was trading him. Rick actually got a solid return which isn’t all that surprising because Lucas was a Hahn proof asset in this market. These latter statements can all be true while also acknowledging Rick is the worst GM in baseball. Also, this “the Angels system sucks” commentary is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. We got two of their best prospects. Their entire farm system ranking is irrelevant. Imagine if we traded Montgomery & Schultz for a rental SP not named Ohtani - think any seller would be unhappy with that because our overall farm is garbage?

Fire Rick Hahn
I will say Rick looked shook in that interview last night. Had that same pout face he was rocking during the first La Russa interview. I’m not sure he’s the one making these trades. I’m hoping he may simply be the face of the front office at this point since KW doesn’t like getting out in front of the camera.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
I wouldn’t recommend looking at the upcoming free agent catcher list.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
But this trade and giving Lucas 5/$125 aren’t mutually exclusive. We can go out and sign him if we really want to. Regardless, this team is almost certainly going to suck next year or two with or without Lucas. I think most of us have come to reality on that, but apparently some posters haven’t yet accepted we have an awful fucking team and farm system that isn’t going to magically rebound next year by maintaining the status quo.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
I have no idea what this means. Why does this suck? Yes, it’s sad to see Lucas go. He is my son’s favorite player as well as his jersey. But Lucas was leaving regardless. Would you rather have a pick after the second round of next year’s draft or this package? You guys needs to take the emotion out of this. This is a good trade from a value perspective. Obviously it sucks from a near-term winning perspective, but I’ve long since come to terms with that fact regardless of this trade happening.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Well obviously context matters. Trading off pieces means we failed, so yeah not good. But signing Lucas to a nine figure when the rest of the team sucks isn’t really the answer. And guess what, we can still go sign him this off-season if we wanted to offer him the most money. Nothing has changed in that regard, but now we have added to two quality prospects to a really bad system. Holding Giolito for his last 10 starts on a 100 loss team would have been the definition of insanity.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
I don’t see how this fucks them. They got a very nice package with a young catcher as the centerpiece. Given they have other SPs they may want to sell and other potential sellers who could join the mix between now and Monday, selling Lucas early while he was the best pitcher on the market made all the sense in the world IMO. I actually thought Hahn would do the opposite and botch the strong position he was in by waiting.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
If they make the right trades with those guys, they might be able to compete by 2025. And that would be great because you’d still have three years of Robert.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Lynn is 100% getting moved. Nightengale basically confirmed he will be the next piece traded. The question then becomes are they really serious about competing next year or is this simply posturing. My gut tells me they are open to trading Cease or Tim, but only if they get sufficient value. I just can’t imagine Rick actually believes there is a path to competition next year and the Giolito doesn’t actually help in that regard.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
If they’re serious about winning next year, then they must be planning to fire Pedro and his staff. And the payroll cut rumors must not be true, because there is little to no help in the upper minors right now.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
I’m 50/50 on this Bob claim being true. But if it is, I still see Lynn, Middleton, & Kelly being moved at minimum, with Clevinger, Graveman, & Bummer also being possibilities.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
You realize we can resign Giolito & Lopez if we’re willing to pay them the most money, just like if we held onto them for some reason? Nothing has changed other than we now two legit prospects.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
I’ll never understand this idea of holding onto a pending free agent while 21 games under .500 at the deadline when you can trade said player and then use payroll saving to sign a replacement when needed. Giolito making 10 starts for us in August & September does nothing soften our boredom for two months.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
He is yes. Kelly had a bad inning tonight so he’s valueless. And a former 2 win SS who is a pending free agent didn’t go for much, so obviously Tim isn’t going to return anything at all.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
First off, Ryan Pepiot is no longer a top 100 prospect. The difference between Rushing & Quero isn’t all that substantial. I’d put the difference in what we just received and my proposed return at about one year of Tim Anderson as a 3 win player. Seems like my valuation was pretty much on the money.

Show me where I said he was worth two? I’ll hang up and listen.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Also, BA just released an updated top 10 for the Sox. Here’s my guess where these guys would slot in: Colson Montgomery, SS (#28) Noah Schultz, LHP (#41) Edgar Quero, C (#84) Oscar Colas, OF Bryan Ramos, 3B Christian Mena, RHP Peyton Pallette, RHP Jonathon Cannon, RHP Ky Bush, LHP Jose Rodriguez, SS However, it’s possible that Bush falls out of the top 10 altogether when the draft picks are added. Gonzalez should slot in 4th and Taylor somewhere around 10 to 12.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Very nice return. @Balta1701 - You going to admit you were wrong about Lucas commanding a top 100 prospect?- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Very true…imagine an infield defense with him at 2B, Burger at 3B, and Vaughn at 1B.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
How would Hiura fit though?- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Just realized that this is the end of the Adam Eaton trade for us. Pretty fitting that Lucas & Reynaldo go out in the same move. Pretty sad the rebuild pretty much kicked off with those guys and nearly seven years later we have very little to show for it.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
That “tool” has Burger valued higher than Gasser, who just cracked the end of BA’s latest top 100 list. That would be a trade that could make sense for both sides.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Feels like a Trader Kenny trade to me. For those that said he never sold off pieces, he did pull off a massive heist with that Freddie Garcia for Gavin Floyd & Gio Gonzalez trade. - Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
