  1. The diehards suffer through him…the Balta’s self exit this site
  2. Because he was pressing in spring training and the front office used it as a reason to manipulate his service time. Smart move IMO. Also, he’s clearly in the 100 to 150 range at Baseball America given he’s their starting 2B on the “not 100 list”. Should he be higher? I’m not really sure because it’s an extremely unique profile. I think it will play up and he will be a league average starting 2B, but I am not a professional scout so my opinion doesn’t mean all that much.
  3. JFC was that embarrassing Baldwin
  4. The dude with the lowest swinging strike rate in AAA is going to struggle to hit .270?
  5. His job is to get on base at an elite clip, no idea where this idea he needs to impact the baseball comes from to be a useful major leaguer (he‘s a star if he does). Regardless, the dude put up league average exit velocities for Boston’s AAA last year. He isn’t Jeff Kent out there but he also isn’t Nick Madrigal.
  6. Poor Winston Salem with the “no comment” on key minor league placements
  7. I would bet big money that Meidroth is up before the end of April and that Amaya gets DFAed at that time. Until then, pray for a lot of lefties or hope that Baldwin gets some time at SS.
  8. Yup, great start. Looks like spring training wasn’t all that predictive 🤔
  9. He also made a comment one time about not being into analytics and all that, which shows will his failure to make any worthwhile adjustments.
  10. He does, but all that does it make the front office believe he’ll put it all together one day (which he won’t). Hopefully with his salary rising they will finally cut bait on him at some point this calendar year.
  11. I can’t wait for the end of the Andrew Vaughn era.
  12. So what we thinking here? Baldwin single, Vargas walk, and then Robert gapper to drive two in? That work?
  13. He was over 30% in AAA last year. He’s not as bad as Jones, but he also brings nothing else to the table but power and has no options. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not supporting the Jones pickup. I’m just arguing that Canario is a highly flawed prospect whereas Baldwin is super fucking underrated.
  14. Are you ripping Baldwin for being versatile? Because there is nothing else in common between him and Leury as baseball players.
  15. Fathom is definitely the low man on Chase.
  16. My post was referring to the lineup after the trade deadline and once all the AAA reinforcements are up. Sosa should be playing 2B most days until the infield situation gets more crowded. I do see him losing significant playing time there once Montgomery & Meidroth are both up.
  17. I agree that Sosa isn’t a prototypical 1B, but we should be giving at-bats to the guys who have a chance to be future major leaguers regardless of long-term spot. If Sosa proves he can hit, he can become a trade asset for a team that’s in need of a 2B if we don’t have an ideal spot for him. As for Vargas, I think they are just committed to him there. Ramos is certainly the better defensive 3B, but he’s still got to prove himself offensively before he will get a shot to take 3B from Miguel. I would certainly start working Ramos in the OF to give him more versatility and allow him an opportunity for more major league at-bats down the road. It’s going to be very tough for the 2B & 3B types to get playing time if they can’t rotate around elsewhere.
  18. Amaya has flashed some potential against LHP in the minors, so he should get all those starts until a better option comes along. And I can see him getting the start today with Cannon on the mound. His groundball rate wasn’t great for the Sox last year, but that goes against his arsenal and minor league track record.
  19. This post is wild to me. Canario is one of the worst contact hitters in all of baseball. His contact rate in AAA would have been the worst in the majors by two full percentage points. Why is that going to get better in the majors when he consistently faces quality pitching? You’ve become so attached to his power that you have ignored that he brings nothing else to the table. When he was DFAed by the Cubs, not one of 29 GMs was willing to trade a prospect for him. Meanwhile, Brooks Baldwin is an extremely versatile player who provides good defense all over the field. Offensively he’s well rounded with solid tools across the board. However, the kid is just a pure “baseball player” and maximizes his physical ability. If you watched him in AA last year, he just has that “it” factor as a hitter. You say his ceiling is a super utility guy, I’d argue that’s his floor. If we gave him everyday at-bats I see him being a ~1.5 win player at minimum. If he can grow into a bit more power and become just a bit more disciplined at the plate, I could see a guy who is a 2.5 to 3.0 win player who effectively serves as your 10th man rotating across the field on an everyday basis. Having a guy like that is super fucking valuable…he’s basically a Dodgers prototype prospect.
  20. He’s played a tiny amount of CF in his career, but I doubt he’s a guy you’d want out there everyday. As for Vaughn, I just think he gets DFAed at some point. I have more faith in Vargas & Sosa hitting and at some point the 1B/DH room will get crowded once the AAA reinforcements arrive.
